Packers Daily Links: Minicamp to Be Held June 4-6

The Green Bay Packers' offseason schedule was released by Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com. The workout program begin on April 15 and ends on June 14. And the mandatory three-day minicamp will be held from June 4-6. To my knowledge, the Packers' offseason program has typically ended with minicamp under head coach Mike McCarthy. I'm not sure if I'm mistaken or this represents a change in Green Bay. Perhaps this is what McCarthy was talking about during the NFL owners meeting when he said there'd be alterations to the schedule.

Newly signed kicker Giorgio Tavecchio's first interview with the local media occurred with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and reporter Tyler Dunne whom he told, "Of course I'd love to win the job. I want to compete and do well. If that means winning the job, great. If that means pushing Crosby and helping the team, that's great as well." As part of his interview, he talks about his experiences learning from former San Francisco 49ers kicker David Akers. Tavecchio competed with Akers during training camp last season, eventually losing out on the job.

More on Giorgio Tavecchio comes from Fox Sports Wisconsin, Fox 11 and Lombardi Ave.

A report out of Texas on Tuesday indicated free agent safety Michael Huff has a visit set up with the Packers. Tom Silverstein, over at JSOnline, commented on Huff, writing, "A source familiar with the Packers' thinking said there's a chance Huff's agent is trying to drum up interest for his client and was skeptical how far the Packers would pursue the safety. If the price drops considerably, Huff would be a good option to firm up the safety position given his experience, but both the Cowboys and Ravens are in need of a starter." The Packers also might be wanting to make a decision on Huff until after the NFL Draft, although they may not be afforded that luxury. If the Packers happened to select a safety in the first or second round, they might decide they're better off without Huff.

More on Michael Huff comes from the Green Bay Press-Gazette, ESPNMilwaukee.com and Lombardi Ave.

Packers defensive lineman Mike Daniels also talked to Tyler Dunne in a blog post at JSOnline in which he talked about his physical nature and what he needs to continue to work on. “I think my strength is just my energy,” Daniels said. “I can work on everything. Going from a rookie into my second year, I just have to work on everything from my stance to my punch, recognition, pass rush, run-stopping ability, double-teams, whatever, I’m going to work at it.” Daniels had a positive rookie season in Green Bay, but it remains to be seen whether he can be more than just an interior pass-rush specialist. He showed flashes last season and played in the 3-4 package, but he needs to take another step to have a well-rounded game.

An article on NFL Draft prospects similar to Randall Cobb is written by Tyler Dunne of the Journal Sentinel.

Speaking of Randall Cobb, Fox Sports Wisconsin has an article on Mike McCarthy wanting Cobb off special teams.

A pair of posts on Jermichael Finley and how he impacts both the Packers offense and the Draft appear at Acme Packing Company.

Packer Report has its daily pro day tour and an article on Louisiana Tech wide receiver Quinton Patton.

The Packers official website has a pair of items here and here on Edward Fritsch, the newest member of the Packers Fan Hall of Fame.

Some brief analysis of running back DuJuan Harris appears at AllGreenBayPackers.com.

A column on Jermichael Finley and Jordy Nelson is over at PackersTalk.com.

Thoughts on Mason Crosby, Ted Thompson and the NFL Draft are shared over at Lombardi Ave.

Jermichael Finley is the topic of discussion for Mike Vandermause in a video at the Press-Gazette.

Happy to see that Daniels seems to have a good attitude and work ethic going into the start of the season. Some improvement from him even as merely a situational pass-rusher would be really nice.
