Packers Daily Links: Lambeau Field Seat License Fees Being Raised

As part of the south end zone expansion, new season ticket holders of the Packers will see increased seat license fees. That and more in today's Daily Links...

As part of the south end zone seating expansion taking place at Lambeau Field, the Green Bay Packers will be raising seat license fees. "The Stadium District Board will raise the seat license fee for new season-ticket holders," writes Lori Nickel of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "The 'green' package of seven games goes from $700 to $2,100. The 'gold' or three-game package will go up $300 to $900." The fees are a one-time cost that essentially are for the right to buy season tickets every year. The money raised from seat license fees will go toward costs of the expansion.

Safety M.D. Jennings, who has been receiving playing time with the starters during OTAs, was featured more than once in newspaper articles published on Thursday. "He has made real progress from the first year," defensive coordinator Dom Capers is quoted as saying about his Jennings in an article in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "He's bigger, stronger. He's all business. We're going to have outstanding competition at most of the positions on defense. . . . He comes to work every day and he's all business. And I think he's a lot better football player right now than he was any time last year." Jennings has a legitimate opportunity to win a starting job, but he'll have to beat out Charlie Peprah and Jerron McMillian. It only helps that Jennings is getting more reps in practice with Peprah sidelined by a knee injury.

More on M.D. Jennings appears in the Green Bay Press-Gazette.

Cornerbacks coach Joe Whitt had some strong words about his group last season, how he takes responsibility for their performance, and how they'll do in 2012. “We’re going to be a lot stronger," Whitt said in an interview with Tyler Dunne at JSOnline. "The way we played last year… that’s my group and I take responsibility for it. The additions, I don’t care if we added anybody or didn’t add anybody. We’re going to play better -- period. We’re going to get back to playing like we did in the past. That will happen.” Rookie Casey Hayward is the biggest addition to the group this year. But everyone from Charles Woodson to Tramon Williams to Sam Shields to Davon House could stand to improve upon their 2011 performance.

Linebacker Erik Walden spoke about his 2011 season in retrospect in an interview at Fox Sports Wisconsin with Paul Imig. "It's always very frustrating," Walden said of his difficulties in 2011. "You're right where you're supposed to be, then you get replaced. Then, especially in a big game, a playoff game, you weren't able to contribute like you wanted to, it's definitely frustrating. That's something I had to live with, but it also motivated me this offseason while I was training." From his arrest to subpar play to his weight loss due to sickness on Christmas Eve, Walden had a disappointing year. He's getting a chance to redeem himself in 2012, but he must make the most of that opportunity.

Ball security drills have been an increased point of emphasis during OTAs this season, according to Jason Wilde of ESPNWisconsin.com. "To that end, McCarthy has instituted several new drills in practice to promote ball skills, and they don’t always involve a football, either," writes Wilde. "From having offensive linemen essentially fielding ground balls, to using a volleyball for other fumble-recovery drills to having all skill position players do the quarterbacks’ through-the-legs figure-8 drill – where players loop the ball between their legs as quickly as they can without dropping it – the goal has been to get every offensive player to, according to McCarthy, improve his 'fine-motor skills' to be better at holding onto or recovering the ball." The drills are an answer to the playoff loss to the New York Giants last season in which the Packers fumbled three times.

From a current season ticket holder to all of you newbies: It is Packers President Mark Murphy's policy for you to leave your billfold at the gate when you enter. At year's end you may have it back, providing you leave a deposit. Next year bring a larger billfold, with more charge cards.
In year three, follow directions for year two. And oh by the way, Mark REALLY loves you guys, you are the best!

What't that I hear? Oh, man, I love this song. "My Heart Bleeds for You" is so touching and sentimental.

If you want to move on, by all means, please do. Lots behind you.
