Packers Daily Links: Jordy Nelson Gets Asked to Prom

The Packers wide receiver received several invitations while on a visit to West Allis Hale High School in Wisconsin. That and more in today's Daily Links...

The Green Bay Packers made a suprise stop at West Allis Hale High School on Thursday afternoon and did a question and answer session with students. "After a more sobering morning at Children's Hospital in Madison visiting patients, the players welcomed a pep rally type atmosphere and the chance to field questions of all kinds from the teens," writes Lori Nickel of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "(Jordy) Nelson had about 20 requests to attend prom, for instance." And while on the topic of prom, safety Charlie Peprah also had tongue-in-cheek comment for the students about practicing safe sex.

More on the Tailgate Tour comes from the Packers official website, including an impromptu field goal attempt by Mason Crosby.

Mason Crosby reflected upon his successful 2011 season in an article by Wes Hodkiewicz of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, and then talked about the future. “There are always one or two things you can just improve on,” Crosby is quoted as saying. “Obviously, I didn’t make every kick, so definitely that’s a new goal, and now I have a number, a mountain-in-a-row, that I can try to eclipse. There’s always things you set and try to get better with.” Crosby had his best season as a professional in 2011, so as long as he keeps trending upward, the fans and the Packers will be happy.

Packers Hall of Fame center Larry McCarren, currently the local radio analyst for Packers games, looked back at his career playing in an era without much success in the seventies and eighties in Green Bay during an interview with the team's official website. “Ignorance is bliss," McCarren said. "Until the bar was re-raised, you didn’t know how dark things really were. You have a job to do. It starts with personal pride. The best thing a guy can do for his team is do his job well. You never got caught in the malaise of thinking I’m playing in a dark time." McCarren is joining the Packers on this year's Tailgate Tour.

Following the stir raised by wide receiver Donald Driver Thursday on Twitter with a cryptic message, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel interviewed his marketing agent to decipher Driver's note. "It certainly wasn't a goodbye message," said agent Brian Lammi of Lammi Sports. "It was reassuring fans that he's looking forward to playing with the Packers this season." Driver's agent that deals with contracts hinted that his client may work out a restructured contract with the Packers when he's done with Dancing With The Stars.

More on Donald Driver comes from the Green Bay Press-Gazette and ESPNWisconsin.com.

In what is most likely a totally unrelated event, Jordy also received a phone call yesterday night from Mark Chamura asking if there was a way for him to join the Tailgate Tour.
