Packers Daily Links: Dave Robinson Prepares Hall of Fame Speech

The former Packers linebacker will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Aug. 3. That and more in today's Daily Links...

It won't be long until former Packers linebacker Dave Robinson is inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He's preparing for the moment right now. "I'm trying to get my speech down, they wanted it about 10-15 minutes tops. My first draft was 45 minutes long," Robinson is quoted as saying by Justin Felder of Fox 11 in Green Bay. "But I talk a lot." Robinson was in attendance Monday at the Packers Hall of Fame annual golf outing at The Bull in Sheboygan Falls, Wis.

With the signing of wide receiver Victor Cruz to a five-year contract extension by the New York Giants, the stage is set a future extension by Randall Cobb and the Green Bay Packers. "Cruz's new deal is great news for the Packers as it provides the team a fantastic starting point in their eventual negotiations with Cobb," writes Jason Hirschorn of Acme Packing Company. "Even if he achieves the lofty goals that have been set for him, he'll have a hard time proving he's worth considerably more money than Cruz." Cobb is at least one offseason away before any contract extension comes to fruition, so this is a little bit of crystal-ball gazing that will hinge upon how he performs in 2013. Cruz is in a different situation than Cobb will be in that Cruz was a restricted free agent this offseason that may have impacted his negotiating power.

Predictably, Aaron Rodgers came in at No. 1 on the most important Packers of 2013 list at FoxSportsWisconsin.com. "Rodgers is No. 1 on this list because the Packers can only go as far as he takes them," writes Paul Imig. "When Green Bay's defense gave up more passing yards in 2011 than any team in NFL history, the Packers still nearly went undefeated in the regular season due to Rodgers' dominance. Though that wasn't a recipe for bringing the Lombardi Trophy back to Green Bay, it shows just how far Rodgers is able to carry a team when he's at his best." Rodgers will be in for an adjustment in 2013 without the services of Greg Jennings and Donald Driver, plus the addition of a better run game than the Packers have had in a while.

In a separate countdown, guards Josh Sitton and T.J. Lang are jointly named the 18th most important Packers of 2013 at ESPNMilwaukee.com.

Articles on quarterback Graham Harrell appear at the Packers official website and Acme Packing Company.

Undrafted rookie scouting reports on running back Angelo Pease and offensive lineman Lane Taylor are published at AllGreenBayPackers.com.

JSOnline asks whether the Packers regret releasing linebacker Desmond Bishop.

" ... the addition of a better run game than the Packers have had in a while."

Have to chuckle every time I read how fans just assume GB's run game will improve in 2013. ... Two rookie RBs plus a completely revamped OL may cause the running game to sputter all season long. ... Even more important to the running game is how GB's defense performs. ... If GB is playing from behind too often, Coach Mike is not about to take the ball out of Rodger's hands so Lacy can get his 4.2 ypc... First 3 games of the season could shape the entire year.
