Packers Culture, Chemistry is Strong

Happy Victory Monday, Green Bay Packers fans!  Yes, it's four days later but hey, it IS still a victory Monday.

By now, we've seen the highlight reels and read plenty of analysis of the Packers win over the Chicago Bears in the NFL's 100th season opener.  One thing that keeps showcasing itself is the closeness these Packers have with one another.

Team chemistry is not a given and that's nothing new.  We need only look at this past weekend and what we witnessed in Oakland with the Raiders.

Receiver Antonio Brown conned made his way to the New England Patriots after the Raiders released him.  After trading for Brown in the offseason, the Raiders set him free to sign with any team before Brown appeared in a single game.  Brown was nothing but a toxic loudmouth whose erratic (to put it mildly) behavior over the last month was paraded all over social media.  He was insubordinate towards his bosses and in the end, Brown was given what he wants.  His behavior was rewarded.

Don't bet on the NFL to so much as say a word, let alone look into any potential tampering by the Patriots.  The league can't be counted on or trusted to do the obvious and right thing so who can teams count on?  The answer better be: each other.

As the Packers entered free agency following 2018, general manager Brian Gutekunst started loading up with new talent to get the Packers back in contention.  Instead of opting for meatheads like Brown, Gute signed guys like Adrian Amos, Za'Darius Smith and Preston Smith.

As the NFL season wears on, teams who are close and treat each other like family tend to face adversity and overcome obstacles much easier.  Those who inject cancerous elements obviously don't.  We'll see that play out for the 100th time this season.

The image above from Thursday night's game should make Packers fans feel good and opponents take notice.  It's one for all in Green Bay.

Need more evidence?

The Falcons looked horrible trying to stop the Vikes running. I was impressed with the way Minn looked on both sides of the ball. This is going to be a tough game. Did Minn play started in the preseason? They sure came out looking great on offense, the Pack looked pretty bad in comparison.

While we only have 1 game in the books, and haven't had any real adversity yet, this team feels like it has great team chemistry. I really love the feel of this team. LaFleur seems to have everyone bought into what he needs!

We will find out what this team is truly made of over the next 16 weeks, but I really like what I have seen so far.

The defense right now may have to win us a few games until the offense gets going. I do believe the offense will get going. Playing one of the best defenses early, having a mini bye before week 2, should give the offense plenty of time to figure out what went wrong and how to correct it. They have faced a little adversity early. Lets see how they respond in week 2.

Right now though the defense has a different vibe then previous years. Watching Pettine and the players it really looks like they have great chemistry. They have some true leaders. With the Smiths, Clark, Martinez, Alexander, Amos, they have some great leaders. This defense has the makings to be the best defense we have had since the Super Bowl. It starts with the coaches, and followed by the leaders. I'm excited for this defense.

I'm excited for this year. Once the offense gets rolling, watch out!

I think he means Adversity in terms of the opposing offense :). The Vikings are a lot more potent with Cook as a bruising runner, Rudolph will test our OLB coverage and their two top receivers are good, as opposed to just Robinson on the Bears.

The Vikings had tons of time in the pocket last night. Defeating them starts with that and stopping the run. Offensively, there should be less overwhelming pressure since I don’t think the Vikings front 7 matches that of the Bears, although they have good rushers. I also think that there are areas of their secondary that can be attacked.

Overall, this will be a different challenge and only step 2 in the growth path. I expect to see more width from the Packers on O this week.

Cook has been oft injured through this short career. He 5’10 and 210. He’s a good runner...I’d compare him Aaron Jones somewhat maybe a little more explosive...but I wouldn’t say a bruiser . Henry is from the titans ( who is close to 240lbs and a legit short yardage back is a bruiser. I think the Packs secondary is more than capable to hold Theilan, Diggs and Rudolph .
David Montgomery is And is going to be a really good running back so I think the Pack can contain cook. Cousins isn’t exactly a scrambler and will take chances like Mitch did. Just cause the Vikings looked high powered against Atlanta...doesn’t mean they will look like that against Green Bay. And since Matthews is no longer on the team or under a microscope hopefully there won’t be any gift penalties...especially at home. This team was super close in the scoreboard last year and the Defense wasn’t half of what it is now. If they can at least get a little offense going, I like the Packs chances.

Rudolph is a little overrated. Middle of the road starting tight end. His stats show that.

We all wanted to burn Jimmy graham at the stake last year. Graham's stats last year were better than 7 of the 8 seasons of Kyle Rudolph's career.

The Vikings o line should be worse than the bears o line. Their defense isn't any better than the bears. Bears are a running team that couldn't run. I hope that bodes well for the Packers vs the Vikings. The biggest difference is cousins, theilan, and diggs are all upgrades over the bears respective players.

Hopefully green Bay doesn't match Tony brown with theilan this game like they did with Robinson last game. Put Kevin king on him and Alexander on diggs. Maybe Josh Jackson can guard Rudolph.

Viking O is much better than Bears O, no doubt, but I do not think they are so special. They played against lowly Falcons with confused D and Vikings D played against confused O.

Bears D is much better than Vikings D. And I believe if Packers can stop Cook (and I think Packers D can), only question we have how much time Packers O needs to start working...

It’s always hard to judge a team based on one outing, but the Falcons were certainly bad yesterday. If their offense doesn’t fire, their defense isn’t equipped to save them. How much of that was the Vikings is hard to tell, but you can only beat the opponent in front of you. Yesterday the Falcons seemed to make that rather easier than it ought to have been.

When watching that game, all I could think was how bad the falcons looked. They looked like one of the worst teams in the NFL for most of the game. Considering the Vikings only threw the ball 10 times in what was essentially a blowout, I think that solidifies that argument.

Ouch, the Falcons reached for Lindstrom (G) who was only two picks after Rashan Gary. Hate to see him injured. It makes me appreciate bringing Gary along slowly and not being so dependent on him for the team's success.

On the other, I'm super psyched about S Darnell Savage (26?). He has all the hallmarks of a difference maker in an area of critical need. No one else on this team can cover sideline to sideline like this kid. If the defense can stay healthy, they are going to be something special this year and not just a one-game wonder.

I am liking Rodgers comments about we have a defense. I like the picture of the defensive group celebrating the interception. I like the scene in the locker room and the enthusiasm of the players toward each other and to LaFleur. Things we haven't scene in a few years. We need for the offense to step up their game as the defense won't win every game. But this is a start.

If you watched that game yesterday, the Falcons couldn't hold an edge to save their lives. They got beat on the edge repeatedly for big gains. It's my hope that the Packers investments (the Smiths) will make that much harder for the Vikings to do come Sunday.

If the Packers successfully shutdown or minimize the Viking run game next week, Gute needs to extend Kenny Clark immediately. He is a monster and irreplaceable on the D-line. Signing talented Free Agents from other teams is great, but the Packers need to lockdown elite homegrown talent before they get to the market.

The Pats tampering drama has yet to be the topic of ANY "popular" sports news source. The NFL is reaching US govt. levels of "accountability". The worst part is, the organization that has been caught cheating multiple times KILLED the Steelers last night w/o their new #1 WR. Are the Steelers that bad? The pats didn't seem to do anything other than dink and dunk (and run) their way down the field just about every possession.

They've been doing dink and dunk for years. They pass to set up the run. It's predictable and almost impossible to stop, as evidenced by how often they've changed personnel and continued to succeed. Great OL to keep Brady clean and just toss those eight to ten yarders all day. None of this "Have to have a balance between running and passing" crap. Their top priorities are a great offensive line and a QB who can make those precise throws. The system has proven itself into six championships. Why change?

I don’t know about great OL. Not saying they aren’t. It is just hard to tell. Brady never held the ball long enough to find out. Ball was out of his hands ASAP. Brady was hardly touched. Steelers couldn’t make a play. Hey if you can’t stop it, the Patriots will keep going for it. Great coaching.

In general, you may be correct but there were plenty of deep ball thrown by Brady yesterday. The Steelers looked horrendous. Brady is decisive and gets the ball out quickly. Rodgers dances around for 5-7 seconds and risks getting creamed or throws it away. That must change in 2019. Brady is a statue at this point. If he can get the ball out, Rodgers certainly should be able to.

Patriots looked like the best team in the NFL last night. That defense looked absolutely top 5, and they are able to move the ball consistently on offense. Throw in AB and Gronk, that will be a tough team to beat. Probably the second best team they have had outside of 2007.

IMO, it appears the players enjoy and like being around each other, resulting in collectively playing as one unit. In previous years, some players seemed focused on individual stats and contracts.

Gute successfully blended veterans and rookies. The speed on defense will surprise teams this season. If we shut down opposing run games, and force the quarterbacks to throw, Savage, Jaire, Amos and the others will feast on the back end!

Looking forward to the season.

For the past few years every offseason and even the early part of the season begins with the mantra “ we are going to be more balanced on offense” . But I have yet to see it. There must be some reason why our team seems to avoid the short pass. One reason could be that Rodgers doesn’t like it. Perhaps he knows that his accuracy on short passes is not there. Another is that the receiver is not open. Another could be that the staff has other plans. Whatever the reason I would like to see the team try to utilize the WCO. Like the Patriots have shown, the short pass in the WCO sets up the run.
I watched the Cowboys and Patriots use that to perfection last night and watched what I hoped would be our new offense under LaFlure. Still, hope abounds.

Patrick....it’s only one game, but I agree, we need those quick rhythm passes. the #1 reason We weren’t successful Sunday was a guy named J. Smith who snifffed out the early short passes we tried. Hope it was just a match up issue and O needing more time to gel.

That D is scary good and we are very fortunate to leave with a win. Thanks to no turnovers. I felt the team who had the edge on TO would win and that came to fruition.

I hope we can break the defensive huddle and set R. Gary as the DE in a 4-3 and surprise the Vikes on a few key run downs. One thing he can do is set the edge. It makes for an interesting twist, and it can't be predicted from the huddle. Heck, he should shift to the down DE during the cadence.

Concepts like 3-4 and 4-3 don't apply to the defense we saw Thursday. Thise are base defenses and Pettine lined up the defense in nickel and dime formations all game. Gary get his looks but with the way the Smiths played we don't need him to have a big role.

It is good to see a young team starting to form their chemistry early. That is a good sign for what MLF can do. Much of being successful is related to being confident. Given our road win and playing our home opener off a mini-bye should have this team flying for the Viqueens game.

Gute stated during the TC that the Packers were trying to build a team with not only the 53 best players but the best 53 who could play well as a team.

This a big point. MM and TT were always trying to put the best 53 on the roster. But they forgot the best 53 won't always beat the 53 who play best together.

"Don't bet on the NFL to so much as say a word, let alone look into any potential tampering by the Patriots. The league can't be counted on or trusted to do the obvious and right thing so who can teams count on? The answer better be: each other."

There is absolutely no reason to think NE tampered. Before the NFL starts investigations, it should have at least a scintilla of evidence. There is a standard player contract. It doesn't take very long to reach a simple agreement. The only thing that might have taken some time was deciding on what these incentives might be, and the CBA has a handy list of permissible incentives.

The last sentence as written seems to be an open call for collusion. Teams can't secretly or even tacitly agree to blackball a player. I suspect that Jason meant that the Packers should trust their players, coaches, and front office personnel, and not that each team should trust each and every other team to do the right thing - in this case, not sign AB.

The reason Rodgers holds the ball is that our #2 and #3 receivers aren't quick enough to get open within seconds off the line. Allison was in the slot and never got a throw in his direction. At some point he'll be replaced either by Kumerow or Davis or Adams will go in the slot. But Allison isn't Edelman, or even Cobb. He just can't do it.

I'd argue that in 2016-18, a decent number of the #2-3 receivers were also trying to figure out their route combos as they were running them. This offense looks more complex than MMs but is actually easier in the sense that receivers have set routes, which should help them play faster, get more separation, and get more looks from AR as he is working from the same route combos and not trying to anticipate what decision a receiver will make in their route tree.

You keep trotting out that line, but it just isn’t true. While Allison’s 20 yard split was 4.28, Cobb’s was 4.34. Davis was quicker, and in fact the receiver with the best explosion is MVS with a 20 Yd time of 4.17.

The reason Allison was not targeted likely has a lot to do with where he played. Slot receivers struggle against the speed of the Bear’s coverage. That said, Your argument truly ranks when you start talking about Kumerow being quicker twitch than MVS. Not true at all.

I love that this story highlights how well the players and coaches get along. Very good day when the national media mill gets closed down. Week two is going to test the Packers for sure. Another divisional rival. I understand the value of a run game. How do the Packers game plan for the Vikings? I think methodical quick passing mixed with play action will soften the defense enough to run the ball effectively. I see a slow start for the Packers if they run the ball first. Either way, Go PACK GO!

Johny Logan is absolutely correct. The internet is full of pretend analysis, the BENNY BOY who posted how bad Rodgers judgment is by not completely a pass to Jimmy G for no yards on 3rd and 6. He even linked the play to prove he was clueless. The bear DB is lurking AT THE LINE TO GAIN while Jimmy is at the LOS running on the LOS not vertically. When Rodgers looks to Jimmy the DB accelerates to him. At best no gain.

Rodgers just does the smart thing looks for a better option but moments after that the pocket collapses on him.

The lazy no brainers jump all over Roders...jacka$$ery

Ben will, no doubt, put the sack on Rodgers for holding the ball to long....then write more glowing reports of the OL.

FACT: The center 63 gave up the sack. It's on Corey, nobody else. Not that difficult when you are looking for reality instead of click bait

Cory Linsley did not have his best game. In the knee jerk rush to dump on Taylor, this gets overlooked. The line did not play well as a unit and the interior particularly so. Having not been stable during the preseason, it needs time to bed down as a unit.

Why are people surprised. We all knew the short TC presented real problems for both the front office and coaching staffs, and it was going to filtered down to the position groups. That was baked in since the beginning of the new season. To Jason's point, it says a great deal about how this team preformed against a very good veteran team. The rest is fans following lazy press coverage. Taylor was never the issue, he was there at TC the first day, and working out. (The real issue was always Lindsey, the Packers had no real replacement for him, hence working Madison and Jenkins at the center position so early on, and the phony competition between Taylor and Jenkins to slide the media from what MLF was doing. So stupid.) The rest is a timing issue, nothing more. As you say CW, this offense needs to work together, nothing more.

All glory to God through Jesus Christ. The Packers didn't suck until Rodgers said. "I don't think God cares much about football.". God gave the Reggie White and his prayers transformed this team for a long time. I hope Rodgers can thank God.

The only thing worse than political crap in the comments section is this kind of zealot "religious" b.s. Why don't you combine the two (aka: Like when the politicians "offer their thoughts and prayers" to gun violence massacre victims families while pocketing NRA lobby money.) and take both types of comments somewhere else. Go prophesize somewhere else, please. P.S.
: Darwin loves you.
