The former Princeton quarfterback had a promising start as a hybrid player last summer prior to landing on injured reserve.

While many teams are cutting players to prepare for the mandatory cut to 80 players, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst continues churn his roster and add pieces with potential to help his squad in 2020. (The Packers can keep 90 players on their roster until August 16th. The team must cut to 80 by the 16th, prior to the start of full practices.)
Per the league's transaction wire, the Packers claimed John Lovett off waivers from the Chiefs.

The former Princeton quarterback was having an extremely promising camp last summer before landing on injured reserve due to a shoulder injury.
Lovett obviously has a lot to prove, but adding him sure seems to continue the theme both Gutekunst and head coach Matt LaFleur have mentioned several times this offseason in regards to wanting versitle players that can help the team in a number of different ways. Look for Lovett to contribute at tight end, fullback, H-Back and on special teams.

So, he has/can play QB, RB, TE, WR.
Where's the hype train that always follows a waiver claim?
Maybe he's a version of Taysom Hill and then some.

If you're going to develop the gee whiz utility position with Deguara in mind, you need to have someone capable of handling backup duties in case they go down, so you aren't taking a chunk out of your offense, should that happen.

Seems like he should be a smart dude, but who gets cut in favor of him?

Not sure why GM Brian wanted this guy last year. Guess he Can play almost anywhere on offense,
Now that we got him.
We can now trade Love and develop this guy behind Mr Rodgers.
Won’t be the first waisted 1st round pick.
