Packers claim Damon Harrison off waivers from Seattle.

A first-team All-Pro in 2016, Harrison was credited with nine tackles and a forced fumble in six games with Seattle.

The Packers were awarded defensive tackle Damon "Snacks" Harrison off waivers from Seattle on Wedneaday, per the league's transaction wire.

The team had attempted to sign Harrison this past offseason and again during the season.

Harrison reportedly asked to be released after struggling to get regular playing time with the Seahawks.

Harrison, a first-team All-Pro in 2016, was credited with nine tackles and a forced fumble in six games with Seattle. He averaged 23 defensive snaps per game, according to Pro Football Reference.

When the news broke that he was being released by Seattle, Harrison indicated he was interested in countinuing to play but that he was not interested in being claimed on waivers

Obviously, Snacks wants to be able to choose where he plays. Green Bay has been persistent in their pursuit in an attempt to bolster their defensive front.

Will Snacks report? Stay tuned.

UPDATE: It sure sounds like Snacks is down to play in Green Bay.

forget him, Price made some plays with his limited snaps If Pettine uses the same plan moving forward the Packers should be fine against the run.

I don’t like this. He isn’t the player he was, refused us at least twice and was let go by a playoff bound team knowing he would likely only be claimed by another. He wanted his release because he was inactive and viewed as the 4th best DT (not DL) in Seattle.

I would rather stick with Price and Rush behind Clark and Lancaster and not risk any upheavals.

Are you kidding? Dude was one of the best run stopping DTs of the 2010s! No, he's not what he was, but he can still hold the point of attack. This is EXACTLY what the Packers defense needs. He is WAAAAAY better, even at his advanced age, than Price and Rush.

Best to have six men upfront for depth. Price is a guy to keep. Snacks vs Rush, the needle points to Harrison.

I have mixed feelings CW. I have my doubts about his conditioning and value since he was only the #4 DT in Seattle. On the other hand, how much risk is there if he bumps Rush or Price off the 53? I doubt he could be significantly worse than either of them and has the potential to be better.

Gute has been after this guy for the entire season and I think I will just trust his judgement on this one.

Howard Green, Ryan Pickett and BJ Raji was one massive 3-man DL. 350 lb DL tend to draw double-teams. That makes the LBs and DBs behind them smile.

Seattle's defense has actually been a lot better the last 3-4 weeks. That said, asking how effective a waiver wire claim will be is kinda like wondering how long the 20 dollar carry-on luggage you bought at Walmart is gonna last.

It might surprise you and be super tough, but if it falls apart after a few weeks, you lost nothing really.

Statistically, over the entire season, the aggregate numbers say they're a bottom 1/3 defense. Over the last 4-6 games, they've been meaningfully better...they've had some lousy offenses to play during that span, but they've still delivered. They've been good against the run all season.

Kind of like the Packers Defense Dobber.

Playing better in the last month to the eye than the stats sheet suggests - leaky, but able to make stops when it’s absolutely needed.

From reading Nagler’s story it seems that one of Snacks’ biggest bug-bears was not getting enough meaningful snaps at Seattle.

There’s nothing lost here in this play by Gute.

Per fieldgulls.com: “It appears as though the return of Bryan Mone from injured reserve pushed Damon Snacks Harrison to fourth on the depth chart at defensive tackle. Add in that with multiple players at the big end position who can reduce inside on passing down, such as L.J. Collier and Rasheem Green, the Seahawks have been keeping a rotation that included just three pure defensive tackles active on gameday, and that had pushed Harrison to where he was slated to be inactive against the Rams Sunday.”

The path in which he got to GB. Twice refused and signed with Seattle where he 's been relegated to 4th string as mentioned above by Cold. That alone gives pause as to play or health. Now he's glad to be in GB when he could have been for the season. Personally, i wouldn't have claimed him, but I get why GB did. I don't expect him to suit up even if he passes the physical.

Do you think it’s because Seattle had a requirement that wasn’t really aligned to how Snacks has traditionally been used - that’s why a) he dropped down the depth chart, and b) he decided to hit the eject button.

Remember when Dom Capers tried to make BJ Raji a pseudo defensive end. Raji was gracious, played there and didn’t speak out........ he also high-tailed it when he’d had enough. Also wasn’t great statistically for BJ too.

I’m watching this one with interest- no loss for the Packers if he doesn’t report, but Snacks could be that 1% that gets the Packers over the top.

He pushed/asked his way out of Detroit and Seattle. Can he help? Maybe. Does he really want to be here with the Packers in Green Bay? It’s not just showing up and indicating he does on Twitter. They need him all in to his role. I’ll just have to trust in Gute on this one.

All very good points. If the answer is "maybe" on a few of them, he can help. For a waiver-wire claim at this point in the season, it is well worth the risk, given the possible reward. He can be the anchor vs the run that they've needed for quite some time.

Very little risk in bringing him to town. The season's coming to a close. I doubt he'll cause any "upheaval" like some suggest. A run stuffed here or there may be what GB needs to salt away a playoff game. Gute knows what he's doing. His record & the Packs prominence indicates this easily.

I have absolutely zero idea whether this is a good move or not. I have been hearing many on here campaigning for him for quite some time, but have come to learn many on here (such as in the draft with certain players they hear about from so called online experts) don' t do their home work. They simply repeat what others are saying and believe it. Snacks has been on a number of teams and was not kept. Seems like a stretch he is going to contribute much but maybe against a team that wants to rush repeatedly against the Pack in the playoffs similar to last year?

If he has anything of value to contribute it will be ferreted out by the coaching staff in the next 2 or 3 weeks in practice. With that being said, I like Gute being aggressive whether it turns out to be a good pick-up or not. See zero downside! Maybe he knocks Rush off the team who has not played and he is kept only in the event the Packers play against a team that wants to demonstrate smash mouth football and impose their will with a strong run game until the Packers show they can stop them.

I like the move- he can explain how the Seattle D works and help the Pack game plan for when they meet in the playoffs. An All Pro is a lot better than a pro Bowl popularity contest winner - and he should be able to help teach some of the new guys. There just aren’t a lot of all pro 350 LB people out there. This could really be a good move if he can actually play to his potential - but he’s 32.... so maybe Father Time has robbed him of his former skills.

that's a great point about obtaining any inside information.

Snacks didn't want to come to GB due to his knees with the cold weather. Mr Nagler reported that when he signed with Seattle.

He wanted out when the season starting NT came back and Seattle started making him inactive. He wants to play.

According to PFF he's having a very good year against the run and still sucks as a pass rusher. He's still a top 10 run defense guy. It really shows how little the league values run stuffing NT that can't rush the passer. Top 10 against the run and still very little interest unless low price.. IMO shows how Pettine is inline with the rest of the league in prioritizing pass vs run defense. Follow the money.

He was playing 20 snaps a game and all at NT 0/1 Tech

He will be taking snaps away from Lancaster for the most part. Lowry and Keke depending on if/where and how often they have both Snacks and Clark on the field at the same time and in what type of alignment. Base IMO - Clark 3 tech - Snacks NT 0/1 tech and Keke 5 Tech. Keke and Clark on Pass rush (2DL) formation. Lancaster and Lowry rotate.

No doubt in my mind he is an instant improvement against the run. The key will be minimizing the amount of snaps he plays against the pass.

Great signing. Packers kinda lucky it fell in their laps. Seems from what I'm reading on here and around the media he new his best bet was GB so didn't want anyone else claiming him and mucking it up. Came off bad but once explained it was actually a good thing.

Makes sense NT being one of the easiest plug and play positions. Just think how fresh he is this time of year compared to a normal full season. Nice...

There's no secrets about Seattle's defense. It's actually pretty basic. They do few things differently from game to game, but the few things they do, they do very well. It has lost the playmakers it used to have and Schneider has been unable to find replacements for those players.

Apparently Schnides isn't the greatest GM in the history of the NFL, like many thought.

Snacks is not the player he was however he can still hold at the point of attack and he plays a physical style of football that our defense needs, especially against the run and some of the OLs we will face in the playoffs.

His experience can be a factor in the playoffs. The big question with Snacks is his attitude. If his head is in the right place he can make plays. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Thanks, Since ‘61

Wow. I can't believe all of the negatives here. Does anyone really believe that Snacks is not better than the bottom guy on the Packers' DL? Does anyone really believe that he does not bring something more valuable to the table than the Packers' 50th player on the roster? I will admit that after the defense performed last week against Henry I sure don't feel like we NEED this move as much as I would have before that game. But dang people, what on earth is the downside here? Obviously Gute and Pettine want him. And people are down on them claiming him off waivers? Because he might bump Anthony Rush to the practice squad? Because of that giant contract the Packers are picking up? He is on a one-year, $1M deal, most of which has already been paid out. This is as close to a ZERO risk proposition as you can get in life. SMH.
