Packers Calendar: Seeing if Evan Dietrich-Smith Can Come Back from Ankle Injury

The Packers center missed Thursday's practice session with a new ailment shortly after coming back from a knee injury.

First it was a knee. Now it's an ankle injury.

Whatever the case, Packers center Evan Dietrich-Smith did very little to prepare for the Atlanta Falcons this week before rolling his ankle two days ago.

The Packers can only hope their preferred starting center will be able to practice on Friday for their final day of on-field preparations this week.

"I'm hopeful that he'll be able to do something tomorrow," said head coach Mike McCarthy on Thursday. "Getting injured on a Wednesday is never a good thing. I guess it's better than getting injured on a Thursday, so we'll take it day to day."

Having Dietrich-Smith available will prevent a ripple effect that has T.J. Lang shifting to center and some combination of Don Barclay, Marshall Newhouse, Derek Sherrod and Lane Taylor filling in at spot on the right side of the offensive line.

The Packers will release their daily injury report with game day status projections (probable, questionable, doubtful or out) on Friday, immediately preceding McCarthy's press conference, which will be streamed on the Packers official website at 12:25 p.m. CT.

Early Friday morning, McCarthy will make his rounds on statewide local radio as follows:

  • WTMJ AM 620 Milwaukee at 6:25 a.m.
  • WSAU AM/FM 550/99.9 Wausau/Stevens Point at 6:35 a.m.
  • WIBA AM 1310 Madison at 6:45 a.m.
  • WIXX 101.1 FM Green Bay at 7:50 a.m.

Also on Friday, former Packers wide receiver Donald Driver will host a book signing for his new book, “Driven” in the Packers Pro Shop from noon to 1 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public. Driver will only be signing his new book, and will not be able to do personalizations. The Packers are recommending that fans arrive early to the Pro Shop, as a large crowd is anticipated.

Might as well sacrifice Flynn if the OL is up for grabs again. On the other hand, if somehow, someway the Pack could string together 4 out of 4 wins to finish the regular season, they'd win the North.

They would probably play at Lambeau against the 49'ers, Panthers or Saints (in the first round). Believe it or not!!

Looks like AR has been officially ruled out against the Falcons. Now would be the time for Flynn to pull out an LSU type win. He won't be back in GB next year if he can't do any better than The "Tanks"giving Day game.
