Packers Calendar: Practice Squad, Waiver Claims

At 11:00 a.m. CT, the claiming period for putting in waiver claims on players ends and teams can start putting together their practice squad.

Even though the Green Bay Packers trimmed their roster down to 53 players on Saturday, the maneuvering may not be over.

NFL teams can put claims on players that were placed on waivers yesterday until 11:00 a.m. CT today. If the Packers were to do so, they'd have to make room by subsequently releasing players currently on their roster.

Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel explains the process, saying, "If the Packers put in claims for two players, they could prioritize the claims and inform the NFL that they want just one."

Quarterback stands as one position the Packers may address after parting ways with Vince Young on Saturday.

Waivers is not the only way to add players, however. As usual, the Packers could make a trade or sign a free agent at any time.

There's been no word if the Packers plan on signing running back Joe McKnight, who they had in for a workout on Saturday. Like any other player, the Packers would have clear room on their roster if they were to sign McKnight.

The Packers can also begin putting together their eight-man practice squad at 11:00 a.m.

Among the players team beat writers have said are likely to be signed include quarterback Scott Tolzien, tight end Jake Stoneburner and wide receivers Charles Johnson and Myles White.

General manager Ted Thompson is expected to address the media on Sunday. Typically his press conferences are streamed live on the team's official website at Packers.com, although the team has not updated their online live webcast schedule.

And so the history of Blown Job Coleman as Packer's #1 back-up QB is written.

Maybe, maybe not. No matter who we get as back-up, if AR goes down for an extended time our season is over.

That could be said of most teams losing their starting QB.

Whether we had Flynn still, or Harrell, we still would lose our season if Rodg went down. So it's not really a big deal -- most teams with star QB's have the same problem.

Looks like TT will be doing some fine tuning. Hopefully there is a good backup QB out there.

Alot of potential back up type QB's out there such as Kafka, Skelton, Wallace, Tolzien, Edwards, etc... but lets face it if AR gets hurt we'll still win more games than Oakland and Buffalo and miss out on Clowney.

I Scott Tolzien but really worry that he just does not have an NFL arm. Geep Chryst and Jim Harbaugh are excellent QB coaches. If they tried and failed with him, I think the Packers are wasting their time.

Tolzein's only here for a week to prepare for the 49'ers game, then adios. Wallace retired.

Wallace contends that he isn't retiring. That may change soon though.

Well, there still are a few teams Wallace hasn't played for in the NFL if teams' decide they need a well-traveled, 3rd-string/emergency QB.

Bland a 48 when he retired. Favre is 43. The only man available in the world that could win games if Rodgers is injured.

I believe getting our hands on Scott Tolszien will end up being a brilliant move.
