Packers Calendar: Mike McCarthy Street Naming Vote in De Pere

The Green Bay Press-Gazette reports "Mike McCarthy Avenue" could become official with a ceremony in early August.

The long-debated issue of when Mike McCarthy will get a street named after him in Green Bay appears to have an end in sight.

The De Pere City Council will consider renaming Ashland Avenue after McCarthy on Tuesday evening, according to Doug Schneider of the Green Bay Press-Gazette.

Ashland Avenue runs through Green Bay as well as De Pere and Ashwaubenon.

Not only is a vote likely to occur on Tuesday, it looks as if local officials have plans for when to make the change official.

"(Green Bay mayor Jim) Schmitt said he hopes changes could be put in place in early August, ideally with a media event where the street intersects Lombardi Avenue," reports Doug Schneider of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. "He said Ashwaubenon officials will consider the measure later this month, and Green Bay City Council would likely vote July 30."

McCarthy would be the newest member of the Packers to have a street named after him in Green Bay, following Donald Driver last month, and plenty of other Packers before him, including Vince Lombardi, Brett Favre, Reggie White, Bart Starr and Tony Canadeo.

Lets wait until he wins two more NFL titles, retires, and then name a small Wisconsin town after him.
