Packers Calendar: LeRoy Butler Church Speaking Engagement in Madison

After having another church cancel on him for his support of gay NBA player Jason Collins, Butler will speak at St. Dustan's in Madison at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.

When one door closes, another one opens.

After former Green Bay Packers safety LeRoy Butler had an undisclosed church speaking engagement in Wisconsin cancel on him because he expressed congratulations to NBA player Jason Collins for coming out as gay, it didn't take long for another church to offer a similar opportunity.

In the wake of the cancelled event, Butler had received national attention, appearing on CNN's Anderson Cooper 360.

Butler will speak on Sunday at St. Dustan's Episcopal Church on University Ave. in Madison at 12:30 p.m. A speech on anti-bullying will take place followed by a Q&A session.

According to St. Dustan's website, there will be limited seating and preference will be given to youth groups that have RSVPed ahead of time.

Following the speech, the public is welcome to an autograph-signing event by Butler from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.

As described at the church's website: "The public is warmly invited to a gathering on our grounds that will include food, a raffle, activities, opportunities to purchase LeRoy Butler memorabilia, and information about the Dean Clinic’s 'Be a Buddy' anti-bullying campaign. All are welcome! Please park next door at Asbury United Methodist Church, at 6101 University Avenue."

Also on Sunday, Packers cornerback Casey Hayward will be acting as grand marshal of the Independence Day parade in his hometown of Perry, Ga.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be the Grand Marshal of this parade for my hometown. The City of Perry means so much to me and everyone there as well,” Hayward is quoted as saying by WarnerRobinsPatriot.com.

The parade is scheduled to take place at 6:30 p.m. and will be preceded by an autograph signing, as advertised on Hayward's own Facebook page at 351 General Courtney Hodges Blvd. in Perry.

It would be a fun road trip to Perry GA for the 4th. Just to get to know Mr. Hayward a little, who sounds like a pretty fine young man.

They have a right to believe anything they wish. If I understand it correctly they are against the sin. Not the sinner. So to invite in a speaker that supports what they consider a sin would seem to be somewhat hypocritical. It would be akin to an exercise guru inviting Rosanne Barr to speak on diets.

I take it you know Jesus personally since you know he would be proud. Good for you. Keep the faith. :)

if you've read the New Testament, and understood what Jesus said about our fellow human beings, you would realize what you said is complete bunk

While he would have turned 30 in Feb 2016 and will not be the shooting threat of Lawson or Conley there is no way Rajon Rondo should not get a mention over both of those guys. He was one of the most efficient players in the playoffs and has been very productive his whole career. While he is no Chris Paul he would be a great substitute if CP3 stays home. He also does not need to shoot to be effective which will leave more shots for the better shooters.
