Packers Calendar: Flying to Seattle

The Packers will board a plane two days before a game for the first time in Mike McCarthy's tenure as coach.

For the first time in Mike McCarthy's nine-year tenure as head coach of the Green Bay Packers, his team will travel to a road game two days ahead of time.

On Friday evening the Packers will board their team plane for Seattle in advance of Sunday's NFC Championship game.

The rationale?

"A number of different reasons," said head coach MIke McCarthy. "It's a four-hour plane flight. There's a lot of components. Actually, we'll talk about it in-depth (Friday) as a football team and make sure everybody clearly understands exactly why we're doing this.

"I think it's an incredible commitment from the organization, just the way we travel, the opportunity to go up there and not blink an eye. This is giving us the best chance to prepare and put us in position to win this game."

First, however, the Packers will take care of business back in Green Bay, pushing up their schedule a little earlier than normal to accommodate their atypical Friday-night flight.

Mike McCarthy will start the day with his usual Friday morning radio circuit:

  • 6:25 a.m. CT: 620 AM WTMJ in Milwaukee and online at 620WTMJ.com.
  • 6:45 a.m.: 1310 AM WIBA in Madison and online at WIBA.com.
  • 7:50 a.m.: 101.1 FM WIXX in Green Bay and online at WIXX.com.

The Packers will then release their final injury report of the week at approximately 11:20 a.m., followed by McCarthy's final press conference ahead of Sunday's game. It will be streamed online at Packers.com.

Although Pro Bowl caliber players like quarterback Aaron Rodgers, running back Eddie Lacy and offensive lineman Josh Sitton are all on the injury report, it would come as a surprise if any of them are not listed as "probable" for the game against the Seahawks.

Rodgers will also have a press conference at 1:15 p.m., likewise streamed on the Packers' official website.

Then it's onto Seattle.

"The schedule is a little different, so guys are going to have to adjust accordingly," said Rodgers. "We’re leaving on Friday, which hasn’t happened in my 10 years, so it’s a little easier probably for a rookie to make the adjustment. But all of us have to make sure we’re doing the proper preparation, especially Friday, which is usually a day of preparation."

Is there any advantage or disadvantage to the team flying out 1 day earlier then normal?

I'm flying out of Seattle today. Wow, the amount of Seachicken fallacio is disgusting. The local radio was even discussing how packers aren't even as good as the panthers. Please, let the team itself be this over confident.

It's amazing how the majority of the fanbase is that obnoxious. We obviously have a few idiot fans as well, but the majority of our fanbase is calm and respectful. The seahwak fanbase is the complete opposite of us. I think that adds to our disdain for that team. It's like their fans took on the persona of their squad. A ton of talking from both their fans and team.

I am rocking my packers beenie in the 12th man bar in seatac. The amount of our confidence is astounding. I couldn't even get the guy sitting next to me to see another side of the story. A 49ers fan joined in just to help calm the guy down. Not happening. Seattle concensous: Seattle 10000, packers 0, 12th man runs for a touchdown. Thank goodness my flight is boarding.

Haha, sounds like a Seattle fan! If only their players were as overconfident.
