Packers Activate LB Zombo Off PUP List

His hamstring injury in the rear view mirror, Green Bay Packers linebacker Frank Zombo is back on the 53-man active roster.

Packers GM Ted Thompson announced Saturday that the team activated Zombo off the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, and he'll be available for Sunday's game with the Arizona Cardinals.

Zombo (6-3, 254 lbs.) was put on the PUP list to start 2012 after he suffered a hamstring injury before training camp. He missed all of camp and the preseason, and only returned to practice for the first time less than three weeks ago.

Given that the Packers have already ruled out six players (Greg Jennings, Charles Woodson, Sam Shields, Nick Perry, Jerel Worthy and John Kuhn), Zombo should be active Sunday.

Zombo, an undrafted free agent signed in 2010, has six career sacks in 19 (17 regular season) games.

The decision on Zombo was coming.

Per NFL rules, PUP players must miss the first six weeks of the season, then teams get three weeks to decide whether to activate, cut or place the player on IR. No corresponding roster move was needed to get Zombo to the 53-man roster because the Packers were already rolling with 52.

No decisions have been made yet on tight end Andrew Quarless or tackle Derek Sherrod. The team has until next week to make those choices, although Sherrod (leg) appears to be a lock to be placed on IR.
