I've always disliked this thread because of the Two negatives and the unoriginal title. But, I read it. So how does Dom Capers not get a good Yet so casually received bads and uglies over the years ?

You have to wonder right Nerd? I mean I watch 31 other teams who are able to run a screen or get the ball in the hands of a speedy back and move the chains, get nice gains. With the Packers it seem like a dang project, first getting the ball there and second catching the ball. Many of the short passes are totally on Rodgers though one of em to Starks hit him in the hands. For a second I thought Morgan Burnett was catching the ball, not Starks. What a difference a year makes.

He can't catch, he can't block, and he can't run...
Starks was averaging .75 yards per carry through the first 3 games. So i guess I should give him props for improving that. He is now averaging 1.63 yards per carry on the year.
Starks had 2 horrible drops. One likely cost them a TD on a screen pass, and the other almost ended up as a turnover late in the game which would have given the Giants the ball down by 7 at about the 30 yard line.

Yeah I'm not sure what happened to Starks over the last year or two, but he gets tripped up too easily, and the drop on the screen/flair pass was huge because it was a wide open field in front of him, perfectly setup. I think this will be his last season in GB.

I was a little more peeved about that first run on the final drive where he bounced that run outside rather than hitting his hole (and taking no gain) and sucked up a 5 yard loss. Luckily it didn't end up costing them...

Yeah, that play really pissed me off too.
Then wasn't the play after that one the one where he caught the dump off pass which almost was turned over? 2 bad plays in a row.

Yep. When he was getting play after Lacy went out, my wife and I were both yelling "hold onto the ball!" at the TV more than anything else.

With the quality of our o-line, most of us here could average 1.63 yards per carry. Well, OK, we'd be permanently disabled after the first play, but you understand the point.
I am truly wondering why Starks remains on this team. Is Ted so irrationally focused on "re-signing our own guys" that he sees no other option? Or, is this MM just being his over-the-top crazy stubborn self? "Yes, I know we just hit an iceberg, but you're going to keep playing that violin until you get it in tune." I can't imagine anyone thinking that cutting Starks would not be money better spent than letting him play. At this point, I'd wager the fans would fund a Kickstarter to pay off his contract. It's one thing to be ineffective, but it's completely another to be consistently a net minus to the team.

Lol, we probably would be disabled but, we could probably fall forward for 2 yards on most of those plays.
Starks played well last year, but this year he absolutely has been terrible. He has I don't know how many dropped passes, and he is trying to bounce everything outside.
There is just such a huge drop off from Lacy to Starks right now.

You hear about defenders having to seal the edge. Well james starks runs like there are 4 sealed edges against him every time he touches the ball. He does not seem to see daylight anywhere.

Ya think it might have to do with mental mike spending 90% of the time run blocking because he has lacy. They obviously do not practice or care much about the outlet pass. Its just something they do once in a while. Its not a practiced routine.

They really need to make a move at RB. I don't know if Jackson is ready since he wasn't with the team pretty much all of training camp, but they need to find another option.

MM needed to sub in starks and stick with him because Eddie was averaging nearly 10 yards per carry and we cannot have that can we? i mean give eddie a two down rest and put him back in there. his hands cannot be worse than starks. i would cut him and schrum within the next week or two as they work out some guys

I guess it's time to make some people upset, but after Packers first drive, which was text book, it all came back to Rodgers throwing bombw s, he wants to consistently throw long touchdown, why simple, it's all about him and his stats.. with Jody back he keeps forcing passes to him..if they play that way next week, they'll get beat. Just my opinon.thanks

I wish I could see the game film to see why AR holds the ball so long,is it because the receivers aren't open or Is he looking for the long ball,a pass route can be ran as designed but if drawn out too long it breaks down the timing is gone,then it turns into sandlot ball and the receivers are forced to run back to the ball or try to extend the route,what happened to the " ball out in 2.5 seconds" in 2014?

You're right that AR is always looking for the long pass, but it's not because he's in the pocket thinking, "this is going to look good on my stats." That's ridiculous.
I'm guessing it's more that the short pass develops less than a second after the snap, and he's simply not pulling the trigger (or the WR are not shaking the defender right off the line). It's like he goes through his progressions before the play gets open, and then everyone heads down field.

I really don't mind him forcing the ball to Nelson that much at this point, for two reasons:
1. they need to re-establish Nelson (or SOMEONE) as an outside threat.
2. as we saw last night, it shifts coverage away from Cobb and other guys. Cobb had more running room last night than he's had in a long time.
As long as the offense balances with time, pushing the ball to #87 early in the season isn't such a big deal.

I live in Dallas, and they are for real. (And I hate them.) Now, I'm quite sure they'll find some stupid way to screw it up, like putting Romo back in for Prescott when Romo's back is healed, but they are very, very good. (And sometimes, very, very dumb.)
The good news is that we seem to have the talent on D to play them. The bad is that they are best at the very thing where we show softness...that 13 yard crossing route. The other bad news is that Capers' specialty is confusing the QB (and sometimes his own team) with exotic looks. Problem is, Prescott just doesn't get rattled. He looks like a ten year vet, and knows where every outlet is when a play breaks. Now, he's not going to go vertical very often, but if we play soft in the middle (as we tend to do) or our LBs aren't dead on, the DAL WRs and TEs are going to gain 350 yards receiving, 8 yards at a time.
I'd wager their strategy will actually be to play action with Elliot drifting into the flat or just beyond the LOS. They dink and dump to him and let him do his thing. I'm pretty sure we can stop their running attack, but our secondary will need to play as well or better as they didn't against NY.

When people like Collinsworth talk about how "great" Aaron is when things break down, it seems only to encourage Aaron to hold the ball UNTIL THINGS BREAK DOWN.
Aaron is now unreliable and fundamentally unsound. He needs to get with the program on a consistent basis, or take a seat.
Plenty of drops today too. I take that as being a lack of rythmn on offense.
THE GOOD: Offensive line gave Aaron all day. Which is good, because Aaron TOOK all day to get the ball out.
The defense came up huge. Gotta start getting some of those INTs, though.

Its kind of hard to tell who is at fault for holding onto the ball while watching the TV version of the game. How much of Rodgers holding onto the ball is Rodgers looking to go deep, pass plays designed to go deep, or WR's not getting open?
Rodgers wasn't perfect in this game. But there were way to many passes that hit WR's in the hands and they didn't catch it. Rich Rodgers dropped a TD, Nelson dropped/deflected a 3rd down pass to the defense. If Nelson catches that they have first and goal. Instead its a turnover. Starks drops what looked like would have been a TD on a screen pass.

There might be something to that. All the stats about how dangerous Rodgers is once he breaks the pocket and all that may encourage him to try and wait for that to happen rather than go with the quick throws that really keep the offense moving.
But this is the first time he ever ran around and bought time and then threw a pick after it. And if a couple drops are caught he's having a three td 300 yard game also, so its a full team problem.

tv coverage is pretty bad, but the few times they give you a look of the receivers you do not see separation, and then why in hell's name do we not have a routine dump off guy instead of sending everyone out 15+ yards.

I was very impressed by the young corners and linebackers. Where have these versions of Nick Perry and Datone Jones been? Nick Perry looks like an All-Pro.
Bad:
Aaron Rodger looks like he went right back to where he was before Detroit.

You guys were right.....Schum is AWFUL! No upgrade over Masthay. I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt for a few weeks, and now the jury is in. They better be bringing in some guys for auditions tomorrow.
Jordy had his worst game in years....4 dropped passes including one that was intercepted off the deflection. Not sure where his head was yesterday, but it certainly wasn't in the game.
Quiten Rollins answered the bell and played a very good game.

Its not a wrinkle to put Cobb and Montgomery in the backfield if you then just run a simple run play with them. If they line up in the backfield you then need to take advantage of the attention of the defense to misdirect or get a mismatch of the receiver on a linebacker on a wheel route or something. Just smashing Montgomery off tackle is not a wrinkle its just a lineup change.

Starks must have incriminating evidence on Ted or Mike, because they keep putting him in. Why he is still on this team is a mystery second only to the eternal question of the Packers and punters. Even when Starks was good, he wasn't THAT good.

I was screaming for a flag on that play. That's exactly the kind of hit the NFL needs to get rid of. Cobb was clearly going down to the ground, and the DB lowered his shoulder and launched straight into Cobb's helmet. I couldn't believe there wasn't a flag.

I could eat crow saying the pack pass d would be the down fall. And it would have been if not for two over thrown passes where no, nada, zip defender was anywhere around. Had those been completions, Giants win big.
Pass D is still a total mess and no one can say it was because we had two guys out. They sucked when they played.
The Good, Lacies running and that O line protection
The Bad: Pass defense and downfield linebacker coverage of tight ends. They all want to stop the run and rush the passer not cover.
The Ugly: Starks and punting. They cut the wrong running back. They cut the wrong punter.

When Masthay was in camp, I looked at who was cut by other teams and Schum was the only punter I saw. So, who did TT go out and sign? The only punter who didn't survive cuts! I agree that Schum was a poor decision.
Starks has dropped off rapidly. I also agree the wrong RB was cut.

Maybe the real Ugly is how this team can look all world in the first quarter Jeykle, and for the next three look like Mr Hyde? Go figure that. Like two different teams.
I did observe years ago when Rogers has more than one interception, he loses it. He is so concerned about that third one he just holds the ball infinitely.

Good: Cobb was beyond good he was great and single-handedy made plays that kept drives going. The offensive line kept Rodgers amazingly clean against that high priced defense.
Ugly: Starks trying to run wide. Like really ugly. The Packers punting, or covering a kick, or returning a kick. Maybe its time to get on the special teams coach again.

NYG offense (Good for us) :9) Crosby...the guy who just goes out there with his lunch bucket and kicks field goals.
Bad: The fricking hit on Cobb while he was lying on the ground obviously not trying to advance by Collins.
His demeanor when he walked away was that of a cocky A hole. I hope he gets his just rewards.
Ugly: Rodgers passing, Rodgers passing, and Rodgers passing. Starks catching, Starks catching. Schrums pootch kicks with an 80 yard field.

Ugly - whoever in the packers organization is responsible for decisions on who the punter is. The Schmuck we have now is making Tim Masthay look much better with every kick. This is not the first time this group has made a horrible decision on the punter (Jan Ryan)

I rewatched the game tonight and the drops were huge. 2 TD's for sure and many other key drops. Cobb was the only one who had a great consistant game.
