Packers 2020 NFL Draft – 10 Last-Minute Whispers, Predictions and Opinions

Once again, we resume our annual tradition of draft day pontification on what may happen or should happen for the Packers in this year's draft.

Of course, all is dependent on who is available when, but over the last eight years, the Draft Whisperer correctly identified these players as being of great interest to the Packers: Derrick Sherrod, Randall Cobb, Casey Hayward, Terrell Manning, BJ Coleman, Johnathan Franklin. Brett Hundley, Jason Spriggs, Blake Martinez, Kevin King, Jamal Williams, Josh Jackson, and probably some others I don't remember.

Alas, the whisperer is retiring from the game, so this will sadly be the last time that when he whispers, I listen.

Here's my list:

1) Opinion: The Packers HAVE TO (I said HAVE TO) draft a WR in one of the first two rounds.

2) Prediction: I'm still flummoxed that the Packers didn't bring in one of the many free agent DL that were available at affordable cost. Thus, I would not be shocked to see them take a DL with the first pick.

3) Whisper:  Speaking of Defensive Linemen, I'm told the Packers have done extra homework on Alabama DL Raekwon Davis.

4) Opinion:  There are several  development right-tackle prospects that should be available in Rounds 3-4. My dream would be for Lucas Niang to fall (has some medical concerns), otherwise I like Robert Hunt (who could also move to guard), Matt Peart, Saahdiq Charles and Alex Taylor.

5) Prediction: The Packers WILL NOT draft a quarterback on days one or two of the draft.

6) Whisper: WIth consideration to who they think will be available at #30, the Packers have shown heavy interest in Denzel Mims and Brandon Aiyuk.

7) Opinion: The Packers SHOULD NOT draft a quarterback on days one or two of the draft unless they pick up another 3rd round pick, then a run at Jalen Hurts would be ok.

8) Prediction: Gutey will have our writing team scambling to keep up and keep track of which pick got traded where. I expect 2-3 trades at a minimum.

9) Whisper: While the Packers love Kenneth Murray the person, they would take Patrick Queen if they had a choice. Packers feel Patrick Queen has the higher ceiling and will have the better/longer NFL career.

10) Opinion:  I'm fine if the Packers ignore the tight end position in this draft, although I expect they'll look for an H-back / special teams contributor type in the last two rounds.

Let the Draft Begin!

And don't forget to check out our live draft coverage tonight on our YouTube Channel. Some very special guests may be popping in...

FWIW...rumors of Packers looking for a trade-up partner...

Thanks, Al. It's not draft day without this article!

Saw that. My guess: Jefferson, Murray/Queen, Ezra Cleveland (please, no), or Jeudy if he falls due to knee.

This must be a player they’re targeting in the late teens, early twenties.

Rumor has it Javon Kinlaw is sliding on some boards. Do I buy it? No. But he'd be a nice get.

It could be that it's just a contingency just-in-case as opposed to having a player they're jumping ahead for.

Most of this is coming from the Jets front office. They are notorious for this sort of spin. Rapport is just as bad when it comes to being their PR conduit. Saints-Packers, are two of the tightest organizations in the league. They don't talk or do 'leaks' period. Some teams like the Cowboys and the Jets love their preplanned leaks. But Packers-Saints, no way. Both GMs are old school.

Please God, don't trade up and screw over another draft.

Here's an example. The Packers in 2019 don't draft Gary at 12, instead trade back 5 - 8 positions and pick up another #2. They Pick Savage who they apparently we're in love with, with that pick. They still have the Saints #1, they have 2x of the #2's, and a 3rd round draft pick. In other words they would have had 5 selections in the first 76 picks in the draft.

Tell me that wouldn't have equaled a far better result than whoring away picks to move up to take Savage, and of course the horrible selection of Gary. I wouldn't call Gary a bust, I'd simply state he'll never live up to the mess that drafting him, and trading up for Savage did to the 2019 draft. What a complete debacle by the Packers that draft was.. Could have had amazing additions to this roster by simply trading out of 12. Instead, we're boned..

If he trades up in this draft I'll be hugely bummed out. We need so much on this roster, trading up again will devastate the draft IMO.

I'd love to see Murray or Queen in the first and a WR in the second. Good point on taking a development right-tackle in Rounds 3-4. Packers have been very good at finding starting O-linemen in the mid-rounds (as they have WRs in round 2). Draft is finally here! Wish my family was as excited as I am!

Why is no one talking about a possible trade using a 4 or maybe 3rd round pick for O J Howard?? Tampa can't need him..

Only for a 4th. He doesn’t know the offense and has one year left if you don’t pick up the option. Remember, there may not be any learning time this year.

I am hoping for a WR, DL, OT and and ILB in the first 4 rounds.

I have put together scenarions for players I think fit the Packers profile and without a drade down and gaining an additional pick in the 2-3 range I cant see any of my scenarios coming through.

Guys I would like to see in G&G come Sunday morning...

Denzel Mims
Austin Jackson
Luke Wilson
Davon Hamilton or Raekwon Davis

Further down the draft order, I would love to see the G&G get some of these guys...

John Hightower or Antonio Gibson or Gabriel Davis
Javon Leake
Dalton Keene
Shane Lemieux
Reggie Robinson
Benito Jones
Stephen Sullivan
Raekwon Williams

Cant wait to see how it all shakes out!

Someone pointed out that late round picks are more a crapshoot than usual this year. The goal is to get known commodities and ready-to-play picks rather than projects and unknowns. Favors the trade up scenarios.

JB! like it but who is Luke Wilson? You mean of the Seahawks, or did you mean Logan Wilson ILB from Wyoming? Aren't we all fascinated with what Gutey's big board could be? but suffice it to say, there will be 3-5 players GB covets when the ball drops @ 30. He may well "reach" if he see's his mid first round guy last to the early 20's and trade up to snag him--who that is really is ponderous. If he reaches and gives away his #30, then so be it, his group IMHO are a lot smarter than we fans. I'm betting he waits until round 2 to snag a WR. His guy could be a WR, but i think he should go for a big man or an ILB personally with his first selection.

If they did there homework on R. Davis they will find his production fell off in his junior and senior years and is said to be immature. Take a pass please!

Immaturity isn’t necessarily a fatal disease. I put him towards the end of the third. Around 86. I think Hamilton and others at 62 would be better.

folks, i was doing more draft guide research. Kiper Jr's last mock had GB picking TE Kemet from the golden dome at #30. That's really idiotic. Draft guide analyst Paul G lists him as the 33rd best player in the draft but even though Jacob W lists Kemet as the second best TE in his TE analysis, Paul G doesn't list Jacob's first selection of TE Brycen Hopkins in his top 100. Perhaps Paul doesn't like Boilermakers but i find something has gone missing here. Is Hopkins out of the draft?! BTW, how could Kiper possibly think TE is a big need for GB? I wonder what he thought of ole JGraham sliding over to da bears!

I have faith in Tonyan...thought he would jump last year. I question whether being stuck behind Graham last year was more political as Gute would have had to fall on his sword if they moved Tonyan ahead on the depth chart...hopefully spending another offseason living with George Kittle will get him further along in his development...you couldn't ask for a better (currently active) TE mentor.

OM, just saw MM in the parking lot of an apartment building near Jerry's World. I asked if he was ready for the draft and I told him I was a Green Bay fan. He said "what would you think if they got a QB in the first round?".
I'm just kidding....have to let loose some levity every now and then. I'm ready for the draft. I don't care what the Packers do, I will be fine with it and hope that the players make all-pro multiple times.

To Jersey Al and all the people who worked on it. THANKS to all of you who put the Packer Draft Guide together. I have it open and refer to it over and over again.

This Draft more than any other is a huge distraction from everything else going on. The Draft Guide is a great reference tool to track what is going on. Go Pack Go!

Raekwon Davis would be a nice pick at the end of the second. I think there is a lot to like there. Could really be a nice running mate in the middle. Size, agility. I think he would be an upgrade by 2021 for sure. I doubt that he has the strength to be a difference maker this year.

I don't think there is any good reason for the Packers to spend capital moving up. Just me.

I’d like to fix ILB once and for all. If Murray is as good as advertised then move up (within reason)and fix this position. IMO, defense in most instances still wins out. You can’t expect Rodgers and company to put up 35+ every game. Good luck Gute and hope things fall your way.

Prefer to trade back Rd1, but if there's not a deal worthy of falling back, gimme Mims or Aiyuk, both 11 life path WRs. Despite being highly prized prospects among the Packer Nation, I have future injury concern for both LB Murray & WR Jefferson being born on 16th (7 energy).

Rodgers was in the discussion for #1 overall. Love was 4th best in the class.

They didn't trade up---jumping teams that had no earthly need for a QB---to get Rodgers.

Rodgers is not doing the retirement dance each and every year, like Favre was doing

He has to be floored. Having a replacement plan won't piss him off as much as the fact that they chose not to go get a weapon to win now. Trading a late draft pick for Rosen, or using a mid round pick on a QB would have been acceptable to Rodgers I think. Trading up to get a QB... Slap in the face. Would not shock me to see him demand a trade

This is the single stupidest draft move EVER.

UI cannot believe that this idiot GM did this to this team.

What a complete idiot.

At least do it for a player that is good at his position.

I am soooo sick of being a fan of the dumbest team in the league.

I have over 55 years invested in the Packers but this idiot gutter-cunt is moving me away from this team.

First Howdy-Doody keeps the addled brain TT around for 5 years too many, then he hires this brain dead idiot and lets him choose the players in the draft. LOSER - FAIL.
