Packers 20 Washington 15: Game Balls & Lame Calls

An ugly 10-3 is still 10-3

It was one of the least pretty victories of the 2019 season, but the Green Bay Packers eeked out a win at Lambeau Field and improved to 10-3.

A win is a win but this one left nothing to build on if they want to be playing at any type of peak level to end out their schedule.  Next up: a fired up Chicago Bears team coming in on extra rest.

On to the day's good and ugly.

Game Balls

Aaron Jones

134 yards rushing and 58 receiving yards and a score.  Jones was big most of the day when the Packers offense was otherwise asleep.  It's not ideal to rely heavily on one guy to keep the engine running, but it's not the first time Jones has been that guy this season.

Adrian Amos

A sack, an interception and 2 passes defended.  Big plays from the secondary seems to be the hallmark of the better Packers teams through the years.  Amos was brought in to make an impact and he showed up in more ways in this game than any other single game this season.

Kenny Clark

1.5 sacks on the day for Clark, who has awoken since the Carolina game.  Clark also assisted on the 2-point try stop late in the game.  A great time for Clark to be at his best.

Lame Calls

Packers Offense - Quarters 2 - 4

A team's identity is something that is talked about all season long.  The Packers offense, unfortunately, has the identity of disappearing for long stretches in games.  Washington's defense is hardly the reason they're 3-10, but the Packers couldn't do a darn thing for nearly three full quarters.

Fortunately, Washington's offense is the reason they're 3-10 and, despite an inexplicable late comeback, couldn't overcome a two-possession deficit.

What makes this even more frustrating is the fact that the Packers had good field position to start with on several occasions.  Against bad teams, you have to put points on the board when you start your drive at midfield.

The Packers face three straight division opponents, the next two of which will send them home if they don't score when they should

Prevent Zone Defense

A hobbled rookie quarterback who hasn't done anything this season, running the worst offense in football and they're made to look like a juggernaut at times.  Some will say the lead was enough to stay comfortable and go conservative to keep everything in front of the defense.  I say it was unacceptable.

That approach is playing not to lose vs. playing to win.  It's late December, followed by January football.  That'll get you beat in heartbreaking fashion.

What do you want from this season, Mike Pettine?  The answer to that question will manifest itself these next two games.

Whoever is Giving Geronimo Allison Snaps That Allen Lazard Should Be Getting

Allison is absolutely incapable of getting out of his own way, yet, there is he on the field snap after snap.  He makes a catch, seems to make a play (finally) and would have fumbled the ball away if he weren't already down by contact.

I get that the Packers need so many receivers on the roster and they've already ignored the position up to this point, but at what point is it time to activate Ryan Grant and use Allison as the "break glass in case of emergency" option instead?

Heck, why not just give the snaps to Lazard and Marquez Valdes-Scantling?  Something is missing here and it seems to be this thing called common sense.

Others to mention:

  • At least a punt returner who's willing to run north and south and pick up yards.  What more can we ask for after what we've seen to this point?
  • Blake Martinez with a big stop on the 2-point try and would have had a sack were it not for a penalty
  • Jaire Alexander vs. Terry McLuarin was a fun battle until McLaurin started catching everything late, including a touchdown to make the game closer than it needed to be.  Still waiting for Alexander to show up big and be that go-to guy he said he wants to be in this defense
  • Aaron Rodgers fumbling after holding the ball too long will never not boil my blood
  • Tip of the cap to the offense calling runs on big 3rd and 4th downs and converting.  Illusion of complexity?
  • Packers need a much, much better effort next week against Chicago

Game: Tyler Ervin transformed ST from historically bad to pretty good, at least for this game.

Lame: Receivers need to lay off the decaf.

Where do you start with this team? How can an important December win feel so bad? Why is Allison and Graham getting so many targets because neither can do anything dynamic and even completions leave seem to leave too much on the table. On the offenses final drive they never even considered scoring a TD but played exclusively to set up Crosby. What the heck was up with the defense after that? Washington had no business streaking down the field for a TD. That was pathetically conservative defensive play calling by Pettine. They averted disaster but it was way too close for comfort. Rogers looks far removed from the player he used to be, still good but way too conservative and indecisive. LeFleur needs to get Rogers comfortable and if that means no huddle quick rhythm then just do it. Too much effort trying to force his offense on to a reluctant QB. Just do what works. There is still time and I'm hopeful that they can get rolling. Everything is wide open and ready for a spectacular run.

The issue with GMo and others is why they are on the field in the first place. Once on the field, the target thing is what it is. They need to catch the ball when it's thrown their way. Packers will lament not adding help at the deadline. I've said it 3 times already: they have Ryan Grant--an experienced NFL WR--inactive on a weekly basis...I know he's likely not the answer, but he's different from some of these guys they're trotting out there. Can't hurt to try something.

If I see GMo being thrown another pass behind the line of scrimmage, I can't be responsible for what happens to those around me.

In Edit: Graham 5 targets (3 catches for 49), GMo 1 (1-11), All other WR not named Lazard or Adams-->0 targets.

I'm with you on trying Grant, especially over Allison.

Allison at this point should be the 4th WR option IMO. I have been a supporter of him, but he has not played well this year and just is not the same player as he was before his injury.

Grant is more of a true slot than anyone else playing WR with this team. It's a different dynamic...and maybe it opens things up for others.

" On the offenses final drive they never even considered scoring a TD but played exclusively to set up Crosby. What the heck was up with the defense after that?"

That's situational football. The priority was to chew clock and push it out to 2 scores after Washington pulled within a score at the 10 minute mark. That FG drive was a thing of beauty in an otherwise uneven offensive effort. Chewed up almost half the 4th, burned out Washington TOs, put them up 2 scores and gave Wash the ball with under 3 minutes.

When that kick sailed through, the only thing that could cost the Packers the game was a very quick TD, an onside recovery by Washington followed by another quick score. That did change the way they played. There is a reason people say that a prevent doesn't prevent much. But it prevented enough in the situation.

Hank, I totally agree with you and against the writer. The prevent defense is a smart play with the amount of time left. The last thing you want to do it allow a big play to happen. You play the odds and the odds are greatly in the favor of playing a "prevent defense". Most if not all coaches in the NFL would've done the same thing.

You play aggressively and force the QB into a mistake that gives you the finality of the Win. Double McLaurin and Haskins is a target waiting to be sacked. Never cared for rushing three and playing soft.

Hey Dobber, it will be interesting to see if they have some new plays on offense for the remaining games. It would be great to see some "hurry up" offense on occasion to throw off the defense. Can't complain thou they are 10-3 and I won my bet with Vegas over 9.5 wins!

In addition, our fans don't give enough credit to MLF, he is doing an awesome job. Is he perfect? No, Nothing is, but to lead the historic Greenbay packers in wins as a first year coach is pretty awesome no matter how it looks!

Game balls: We appear to (finally) have a ST returner, MLF just became the winning-est rookie coach in the HISTORY of the GB Packers. The Packers are 10-3 with a new HC, new scheme, and some great FA additions.
Lame calls: Once again living in AZ meant I was not seeing the game televised; I was only able to listen to part of the game (the beginning and the end) but I was happy to have a W for my team.
Lame call: I logged onto CHTV expecting to see other fans happy for a win and almost without exception just found a bunch of commentors complaining (whining, it seemed to me) about the team not winning by enough/not looking unbeatable/"likely to lose early" in the playoffs. PLAYOFFS? YOU'RE TALKING PLAYOFFS? Before the season there were a lot of people predicting gloom and doom. I'm happy to be a fan and thrilled that the team is winning. It bothers me that others can't seem to appreciate a win when it happens.

There is a strong correlation between your first two lame calls. You didn't see the game and are happy with the win. Those of us who saw the game know how ugly it was. Don't misunderstand that - we are all happy to be 10-3 after the last two seasons, but we also know ugly when we see it.

My concern is that ugly won't win the next two games. It is late in the season and the Packers still haven't played a complete game. They will need all three phases of their game functioning at a high level to win against the Bears and Vikings.

I'm all for that. Allison has regressed badly this year and brings nothing to the table that any NFL-caliber player could not match.
As far as that goes, I'd probably extend the same thing to Jimmy Graham. Graham brings nothing to the table that Lewis, Tonyan and Sternberger could not pick up. Promote Bayliss and Shepherd/Taylor to replace those two and take a look at a couple more younger players on the PS.

With both guys (Allison and Graham), it goes back to something Gute said at his intro presser. (Paraphrasing a bit) When you know a guy can't play, it is best to move on quickly. Those two cannot play.

Graham actually played pretty well and not purely as a pass catcher.

Alison, sadly, I have to agree with. If the only way to Getz Lazard on the field is to take away MVS and leave Alison, then I think we have to conclude that we have no viable alternative at his receiver position. Clearly we now know that neither Kumerow nor Lazard can play Alison’s role. MVS is clearly an edge type.

Can Ryan Grant offer anything? Alison simply has no quickness at all. Thus is no threat and not open. Overall, Lazard’s blocking has been valuable and he has a receiving role. That said, we now lack the speed threat and I think that has showed in the last 2 weeks. While MVS wasn’t lighting things up, he was hard for teams to ignore.

For that reason, I’m not sure the current answer is going to work against better teams. In addition, it’s time to get creative with Grant, Williams, Tonyan or Sternberger or even Shepherd in the slot.

Coldworld,
MVS wasn't yanked in favor of another receiver. MVS has played so poorly for five or six weeks the Packers can't afford to have him on the field. MVS lost his position. No one took it from MVS, It is sad that a player with his speed can't learn to run simple basic routes.
Your comment that the Packers have no speed threat is wrong. Lazard has shown to be plenty quick and very fast. Lazard blocks, MVS doesn't block. Lazard runs routes. MVS has shown only the ability to run straight and fast, MVS seldom makes an adjustment on the ball. Lazard's forty plus yard catch clearly shows speed and the effort that MVS would have given up on. Lazard initiates contact. MVS is simply scared. MVS can't play wide out because Adams and Lazard are simply better. MVS can't play slot because he shies from contact. Since getting hurt MVS has not shown the testicular fortitude to compete.
Young players often go through spells in their game when they doubt themselves. What you worry about is if that young player experiences doubts more than once. Last year for a very long stretch MVS disappeared. This year the same thing has happened again. MVS may not be long for this league. Lazard appears to relish the opportunity. Who would you rather play?
I am not saying Allison is a slot receiver, but I am saying that MVS certainly is not a slot receiver. I am in favor of trying anyone at the slot except Adams and Lazard. Remember Allison does block well down field. He contribute to the running game. MVS hasn't thrown a real block his entire career.
The Pack will draft a slot receiver this draft. Allison won't be back. No great loss. MVS will be standing next to J'mon Moore in the unemployment line unless he toughens up and actually works on his route running.

MVS brings the kind of speed that defenses must account for. Allison does not. Allison leads in catches 29-23. MVS leads in yard 427-251. So that's something.

Lame Calls: That lethargic offense after 14-0. For goodness sakes, do some up-tempo or something. No way A-Rod has declined this much......I wonder if the Packers are last in the league on WR/TE's breaking tackles. (Watch George Kittle's catch for the 49ers)

Oh really, you too? You're not alone!
How about snapping the ball with a "0" on the play clock nearly EVERY time? That's not exactly how you keep a defense guessing and/or on their heals.

Aaron Rodgers is consistent. He consistently uses timeouts because he cannot get the ball hiked before the clock runs out. He is consistent in that he holds the ball too long. He is consistent that he is missing receivers on short as well as long throws. he is consistent in that he always looks for the long ball when the short throw is open. He is consistent in his attitude toward his receivers (always their fault; in the wrong place). He is consistent in tunnel vision (forcing throws to the receiver he has the most confidence in at the moment).
He is consistent in that he lacks the leadership (just watch his face) to incite his offense

Finally someone is willing to spell out what Rodgers has become. Rodgers only inspires himself at this point. And not very well. You’d think that Gutekunst et al would have come up with one more competent receiver for this year. Of course that didn’t happen. So Rodgers looks for Adams and the rest just run around or wave their hands. It looks like sandlot played by millionaires. Rodgers looks arrogant, tired, and bored. This could be a 10-6 team yet.

10-3 but lacking style points, I’ll take it!

Game Balls:
O-line. Rodgers took sacks but saw that he held the ball for 3.75 second on average this game, the highest of the season. Tells me the line wasn’t the main issue.

Lame Calls:
Jimmy Graham with another stand in performance for Richard Rodgers. Even a blade of grass will take down Graham, literally! The Kittle’s of the league are few and far between, but it pains me to see what that guy does after the catch compared to old man Jimmy.

Hard Count:
When the only thing it (seemingly) does is make the offense consistently lose yards on false starts it’s time to hang it up Rodgers, my friend.

I would be royally bummed out if we lose to the Bears, but definitely not shocked. Rodgers' on field demeanor is reminiscent of last year. He called out Adams on the field yesterday ( twice ). NOT COOL!!!!!! His hard count is now, something that rarely fools anyone but our own
players. ( while the clock dwindles) Aaron Nagler reported that Rodgers had a number of plays where he ignored open receivers underneath, while looking for the big play that didn't materialize. I hope Aaron isn't just as much a curse as he is a blessing, from here on out. We'll see.

Game Balls -

Aaron Jones! 192 yards and a TD on 22 touches (16 carries, 6 receptions).

Jimmy Graham: Graham had 3 receptions on 5 targets for 49 yards. One of the targets Rodgers overthrew him by 2 yards. Graham was WIDE open.

Adrian Amos: He was really, really good yesterday. 6 tackles, a sack and an Interception and 2 passes defensed.

Za'Darius Smith: STUD!
Kenny Clark: STUD!

Tyler Ervin: We have found our Punt Returner! Ervin was a guy I liked coming out of college. He has some shiftiness to him as well as speed. He is a guy that could be used on some gadget plays on offense down the road too. But just for his PR ability he was a huge pickup. He had 4 returns for 51 yards. 12.8 yard average. Considering we were in the negative until yesterday that is quite the accomplishment.

Lame Calls-

Geronimo Allison: I haven't seen the snap count but he plays way more then he should. WAY more. 1 reception on 1 target for all the plays he was on the field?

Stale Offense: They had plenty of chances to do some serious damage. They started the with the ball twice on Washington's side of the 50. And both times the drive ended in punts. That can't happen against better teams!

Allowing Redskins to score last TD: I know it didn't matter. It just is an annoyance and changes the perception of the game a bit. They could won 20-9 and the game feels differently. I would have liked to have seen them stay aggressive on that final drive. not play soft zones.

Notes:
The offense struggled. But I think they had some bright spots in it. They got the ball in Jones hands. They also had the TE's going a bit. All 4 TE's were targeted. Sternberger should have caught the TD, Tonyan did catch his. Graham was pretty good all day. I really think they need to start using more 2 and 3 TE looks.

I thought Josh Jackson looked good when I was keying in on him. He is a guy that could earn more playing time.

I do feel like this offense could get on a roll. They have 2 tough games ahead against 2 tough defenses. But if they can find the right combination of players and plays they could start finding themselves. At least find a little more consistency. I think if they use more 2 TE looks it could open up the offense more. Using Jones, Adams and Lazard, along with probably Graham and either Lewis or Tonyan we could see a lot of creative looks. The Packers TE's have some skills that can be used. We don't need a TE to get 20+ yards per reception. We need a guy to get us 5-10 yards. Allison is offering next to nothing, so replacing him with a TE could help the Run game more and can make the play action a little more effective.
I'd also like to see a little more motion. They started the game with it and stopped doing it. Coincidently the offense sputtered after that too.

While the game wasn't pretty, they won. At the end of the season they only look at games you won or lost to determine how good you were. 2 weeks from now no one will be saying "well they didn't look great against the Redskins". All eyes are on their record.

Onto the Bears!

"While the game wasn't pretty, they won. At the end of the season they only look at games you won or lost to determine how good you were."

Can't like this comment enough. This isn't the NCAA where not winning by enough points drops you in the rankings. We've become conditioned to look for that in the box score. Sure, we'd liked to have seen more, but Washington has not played poorly since they canned Gruden. They're 3-5, with 4 of those losses coming to playoff-bound teams.

Parcells used to say, "at this stage of the season, you are what your record says you are." Packers are a 10-win team that is 3-1 against teams that currently have a winning record. Vikings? 0-4. Bears? 1-3.

"I thought Josh Jackson looked good when I was keying in on him. He is a guy that could earn more playing time."

Josh Jackson playing and being serviceable (or--heaven forbid--decent) would be very helpful for this team. They have a bunch of playable DB, but Alexander and King aren't shutdowns. With Brown and others being nicked up, he's got his chance to get out of Pettine's doghouse and stay active on a weekly basis.

Dobber - I just finished watching my tape of the game as I was not able to watch yesterday. I think the frustration with the Packers offense is based mostly upon the impact for the Fantasy Football players. That also is the reason why Rodgers takes so much heat from the FF fans because they all have Rodgers as their QB.

I wouldn't care if the Packers won every game 2-0 or 3-0 and we ran the ball 100% of the time as long as we win. This need to score a TD on every drive or very play for that matter is driven by the FF leagues. No one cares how well the defense plays any longer because it has little impact on the Fantasy results.

As for myself if we win the next 3 games the same way we beat the Redskins and then win all of our playoff games and the SB by the same score, I would sign up for that right now. However, even if that actually happened many posters here would be whining about how we didn't win the SB by enough points and Rodgers holds the ball too long, etc. Maybe AL and Nagler should change the name of the site from CheeseheadTV to WhiningCheeseheadsTV. Be well, enjoy a cookie. Thanks, Since '61

If Pettine wants to show more zone defense while the weather turns and footing is suspect , then Jackson shows more knowledge than King in playing to assignment. Crazy Tony would be best served playing special teams at a high level. Take care of the Bears and then unload his offense on the queens on a fast track @ the S'hipwreck by the river.

After watching a few minutes of the SF - NO game and much of the KC - NE game, I was struck by how much YAC is piled up by their receivers versus the Packer receivers. All those teams manage to complete short throws to playmakers on the move and let them run for significant yard after the catch. The only Packer who could fall into that category is A. Jones. I don't think any of our WRs or TEs do. And we don't target Jones often enough.

I would say our focus on sideline throws severely hinders our ability for any YAC. We need to get ourselves a slot receiver.

Ergo the conundrum of the 2019 draft with Cobb jettisoned to Free agency. Nothing was done by Gutekunst to supply LaFluer with a key ingredient for his offense. Should have used 2020 picks to move into the front of rd two and snagged Deebo Samuel. Maybe Savage at 12 and the WR at the end of the first. Gutekunst should have known Adams would see brackets and Graham cannot run. Was he counting on Equan?

Totally agree with everything you've written Jason.I mean there were times where we had great field position near midfield and came up empty. I was thinking to myself at the time, which team could be up by two scores, have a chance to totally bury the other team, have great field position, and let them off the hook? Our Packers.

I'm trusting MLF is holding everything back for the Bears and the Vikings, but I have a sneaky feeling I probably am wrong.

Here's a lame call that no one has mentioned, how about Jimmy Graham vs Lambeau field? Every time I see him catch a ball he slips and falls. It's truly amazing. Many people have slipped and fallen this season but I've never seen someone fall on their own as much as Graham does. It's almost comical. Graham could've gotten 5 more yards out of his catch and run before he was even touched but he fell down with no one around, again.

I blame the turf at Lambeau for the slipping. Aaron Jones was slipping a lot just running down the sidelines. Slippery turf near the goal line made our returner slip and muff a catch. Now he is on the practice squad. Graham slipping at Lambeau and seemingly, no where else, makes me think the turf is to blame.

Lambeau's turf is notorious for being slippery in early games. Combo turf takes it's own sweet time drying out...

Whatever Deal they got for that garbage surface, they should be re-paid ten fold. They were better off with turf, but then Packertown would have to pay a couple more guys to tend the tundra.

"What do you want from this season, Mike Pettine? The answer to that question will manifest itself these next two games." Make that three games. Our remaining games are all NFC North games. Right now we are 3-0 in NFC North games. Let's pray that we are 6-0, in NFC North games after the last game of the season. We need to run the table because everything is on the line. Just getting to the play-offs isn't enough. We need to have our Offense and Defense show up for several weeks straight, starting this week vs the Bears. You want to talk play-offs? Then get our Offense in order and get our Defense prepared to play, or we will be one and done, in the playoffs. Be ready for an improved Bears' team next week, a healthy Theilen and a healthy Cook, in the vikings game and ready for anything versus the Loins, as they always play us tough. Run the table!

Winning ugly? Sure....but looking at the standings sitting at 10-3 is very pretty, considering the last two years.

An observation however: Maybe it is the receiver group, but Rodgers seems very indecisive this year. He surveys the D pre snap and doesn’t trust what he sees and keeps looking for more information while driving the play clock towards zero. Then he takes the snap just before a delay of game and holds onto the ball and looks and looks as long as his lineman hold their blocks...only to fire a pass or scramble when the pressure inevitably arrives.

I miss the days when he would take the snap with 10-15 seconds on the play clock and fire a pass to a target in 3-4 seconds. Those plays are few and far between this year. I did notice many of the receivers run their primary route and if covered just stop for some reason.

Exactly!

Did the 49ers apologize for beating the Redskins 9-0? NO.

Did the Vikings apologize for beating the Redskins 19-9? NO.

The Redskins also had a bit of momentum heading into this game. Beating the Lions and then the Panthers back to back weeks.

As strange as this season has been , they do find different ways to win. I don't agree with the negative comments toward AR. He had plenty of time , but as the telecast showed all the receivers were just slowly meandering around not finding the open spots in the zone. Consequently, he did force some throws into very tight windows and the results were near INTs.

Watch other games , Brady holds the ball too long sometimes and also lets his receivers know when they mess up , yet people here think Rodgers is the only QB guilty of this.

Absolutely, I just think the miss throws stand out bc he has few chances to redeem himself as in previous years. The passing game is all about rhythm, but these receivers can be likened to Pee Wee Herman at a disco.

Swisch,
It is evident that you never played football or competitive sports. To help you out, the team leader leads. The other players follow. Until someone on this offense steps up and delivers with a consistent effort the teams offensive leader is Rodgers. When Jones puts the Packers offense on his back against the Bears and Vikings this next two weeks then he will gain more respect in the eyes of his fellow players and coaches. If he can do this? When Adams steps up and carries the Pack to the playoffs the team offensive leader will be Adams. If he can do this? Let me point out that neither Adams or Jones is in the top five of their position. The one constant to good football in Green Bay has been a healthy Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers is so unique that he makes the game look easy. Thus you think he isn't playing hard. Just like Brady. The difference between Brady and Rodgers is that New England consistently surrounded Brady with quality personnel over the years. Thompson and McCarthy did not do the same for Rodgers. They were happy with the greatest offensive show on earth. Unfortunately the Packers defense has consistently been bad or below average. During the period of 2009-2012 the Packers were a more balanced team offensively and defensively. From 2013-2018 the Packers were all offense and little defense. This year they are more balanced again. They have flaws but they are well rounded offensively and defensively. They are still learning to win. They need more help in the upcoming draft and from players already drafted who are not contributing. It is good to see both Smith's taking on leadership roles for the defense. I'm positive that Rodgers would gladly accept a lower profile if the Packers could find the right answer to the offensive needs. A terrific young slot receiver or young tight end would work wonders. With the burden of leadership one has to command respect and lead by example. There is not a player on this offense better suited for the role than Rodgers.

Same for Rodgers, who people don’t acknowledge is declining, except Brady basically has only Edelman to throw the ball to. Rodgers has multiple decent targets if he could just throw the ball quicker and hit receivers in stride. Rodgers should be all the more effective passing with the running of Jones a defense must respect.

He's going for Blanda's record. He has Edelman and N'keal Harry is starting to pick up McDaniels's offense. He doesn't have the key catches coming from the TE group. He can still put the ball on the money.

Like the idea of going with Lazard and MVS at the two main receivers to complement Davante. Would like to see Ryan Grant get an opportunity.
At tight end, let's go with Lewis and Tonyan as the main guys.
Utilize Vitale as an important blocker and pass catcher down the stretch.
We're great at running back with Jones and Williams.
I'm still hopeful our offense can make some good progress this season as diversified and dynamic.
It seems Rodgers is able, but is he willing?

Adams effort level since returning from injury is bad. He deserves calling out. Clearly that is not happening in practice. If anything Rodgers should do more of that. This is leaving aside being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

No. Rodgers is keeping LaFleur boxed in and unable to get the offense going the way he wants. Plus crappy talent on the offensive receiving unit beyond Adams.

I am in agreement that Graham needs to sit and Tonyan should start in front of him. Tonyan is a better blocker and catches what is thrown to him. Tonyan is faster and more precise with his cuts. Tonyan consistently gets open. There are complete games when Graham doesn't get open. It is time to shake up the tight end position.

As for Allison... Without question Allison is not the same player he was before the injury. At least with Allison you get some type of down field blocking for the run game. Allison also catches the ball thrown to him in the end zone. Valdez-Scantling has completely disappeared over the past month and a half. Every defense in the NFL knows MVS has about one route (Fly). His pattern running skills are terrible and he is easy to defend. MVS doesn't block, doesn't run routes, doesn't take the contact. He is playing scared since getting hurt and you can't play scared in football.

Finally had a chance to watch my recording of yesterday's game. After the first quarter the game became pretty boring. The Packers played with a lead for the entire game thanks to Aaron jones, Davante Adams and the defense. But after building a14-0 lead I think the Packers started getting ready to play the Bears. The Redskins never really posed a threat and couldn't really do much against the Packers defense. Then in the 4th quarter when the Packers needed to put the game away the offense decided to play again and Rodgers methodically led the team down the field chewed up the clock and the Packers scored what was essentially the game ending FG.

We are 10-3 and that's great. However, MLF needs to make some adjustments with the offense, specifically with the receiving corps.
Allison sits Ryan Grant plays. MVS sits Lazard plays. Graham sits, Tonyan and Lewis play in 2 TE sets. One TE go with Tonyan. Point is to put the more athletic and capable players on the field. Next, we are supposedly looking for balance on offense and yet we come out with good field position and throw 3 incomplete passes and go 3 and out when Jones is having a great game. Who does this make sense to? Why aren't we playing the entire game as we played in the 1st quarter or on the last FG drive in the 4th quarter?

I'm not sure what the best moves are to get the offense to stay on track for an entire game. Maybe it's on Rodgers, maybe on the receivers, maybe on the OL, maybe it's the new offense, maybe MLF, may a combination of all of the above. But what I do know is that when you put better players on the field, as we did with our defensive FAs, you get better results. It's time to play Lazard, Grant and Tonyan on offense. Allison, MVS and Graham have proven that they are not getting it done. Move on and Go Pack Go! Thanks, Since '61

An ugly win is a win but the Packers must execute on both sides of the ball to win against the Bears. A listless approach to the Bears will result in a much different outcome than the Redskins game. It's time to incorporate the hurry up offense and keep the Bears defense on their heels. Don't run the play clock to zero every time. And get the ball out quickly instead of holding onto it so long by throwing to the backs and TE. Wear the defense down with a solid running game and the passing game becomes more effective. It's time to get Lazard more snaps. A win over the Bears will require a 60 minute effort. Anything less will result in a 10-4 record. Go! Pack! Go!

All I have Is a lame call (or calls). We've been seeing the offense vanish before the first half & not reappear until hurry-up time in several if not many games this year. I got curious & found this on ESPN, discussing his scripted plays: “I usually go about 20 and a lot of times you can’t even get all the way through that script in the first half,” LaFleur said in an interview this summer

Things that make you go : "hhhmm"
