Last year at this time we were discussing whether Joe Philben had any chance of being named the permanent head coach and whether to fully tank for a better draft pick.

This year, the Packers are all but assured a playoff spot already. They simply have to beat three teams at .500 or worse to win the division. They have a fair shot at a first round bye. And I still believe they have the capability of reaching a higher gear than they've shown so far.

I'd say the view is much better in 2019 than it was in 2018

Packer football this December will have the team and fans looking forward to January football and the playoffs.

All four remaining December games are reasonably winnable with a full bore team effort by the Pack.

Expect December football to see some improvement in Special Teams with a new returner and maybe a few changes to blocking schemes.

Would anticipate more use in December of Aaron Jones and the ground game, yardage is yardage and the time of possession, particularly against Minnesota, can be critical to a Packer W.

December sees the Pack playing 3 divisional opponents for the 2nd time this season so expect MLF & Pettine to have changed up game plans and maybe a few new wrinkles that the Vikings, Bears and Lions didn't see the first time around.

There is a lot more to play for this December than last December.

You guys are entertaining. Gave me a fun new perspective to my Thursday.

Yep, ratchet up Lazard. Let's see another 100+ game this weekend. No better time to turn to yet another weapon, and give Redskins a wasted CB double teaming Adams. Then....for the vikes, they then can't just focus on Adams.

Wooh-hoo, everytime someone mentions Marcedes big-dawg, I'll thumbs up all over that spot.

Yeah bebe, glad you kudo'd Tramon. Love when a young, 'old' player simply over a mere 30 years, defies silly perceptions that they are over the hill. We'll have to live with some limitations, but his experience and saavy can make up for some yielded receptions.

woah bebe, yes Z smith is huge addition, but in part b/c of his bruder, preston.

Absolutely, bebe…. no defense on the opposing TEs. Ridiculous. You call it like we all see it.

"You guys are entertaining."

Yes, all the yelling & swearing reminds me of the bar scene 20-30 years ago. Makes me want to consider taking up smoking again.

Somewhat unrelated, well then again maybe not, but is there any chance of getting some " lotta ball game left" t-shirts back in stock??

Hat would be nice as well.

One item that is not getting enough attention is just how awful Mike Pettine has been. His coaching this year has been absolutely garbage. Despite a healthy and talented unit, GB's defense has constantly underachieved, given up huge plays, can't get off the field and only survives when back-up/rookie QB's throw dumb picks. This defense has been OK against bad to mediocre QB's (Kyle Allen, Matt Moore, D. Jones, Dak Prescott) and has gotten torched by top 1/3 QB's in the league (Rivers, Garappolo). When the run defense is stout, the secondary is porous. When the run defense is porous, the secondary is still awful - despite all the talent back there.

This team's 2019 playoff chances are so predictable. GB will have a shot to win if it plays against a team with a low to mid-tier QB (Prescott, Wentz, Cousins) and will get absolutely destroyed if it plays a team with a one of the league's best (Wilson, Garappolo, Brees).

And yes, I put Dak Prescott in the bad to mediocre category. Despite having one of, if not the best, RB in the league and one of the top WRs in Amari Cooper - he continues to lead a mediocre Dallas offense.

I don't disagree about Pettine. He has been very suspect this year in his play calling. He willingly allows holes to be open in the secondary. It is very worrisome. That being said- he knows the players he has on the field and their abilities better than we do as fans but it is getting very hard to watch. I think the bigger concern is not having a fast/playmaker middle linebacker. A player like that in the middle of the field can single handily change the game. If we are going to make a playoff run I worry more about good defenses getting to Rodgers though. In the few games we've lost- that's been a huge problem. He has no time to see the field and get rid of the ball.. we are going to have make some changes to make a run in January.. GO PACK GO!

Couldn't agree more on the fast/playmaker at middle linebacker. Pardon the second rant of the day, but Blake Martinez is really not that good. He's mediocre on his best day at stopping the run and always brutal in pass coverage. Just absolutely brutal, whether playing man or dropping into the middle of the field in zone coverage. Part of, if not the major reason why GB's secondary continually allows big plays in the passing game in center field. I can already here the responses now, "but look at how many tackles he is recording!" what would GB do without him?!?". Well, first - most of those tackles are anecdotally five yards + down field. Secondly, I feel like the scheme GB plays allows for any ILB with a brain and a pulse to make those plays and obtain those tackle numbers. And finally, name the last "splash play" Martinez made. I thought he was going to get a sack against NY and then Saquon Barkley of all people lit him up and stopped him in his tracks - that's not supposed to happen to an NFL inside LB. And if it does, said ILB should at least be competent in the passing game. Of which Martinez is definitely not.

No way one can look at BM and say he is anything more than a poor man's AJ Hawk. And that ain't a good thing in this 2019 NFL.

The major reason why GB's secondary continually allows big plays in the passing game in center field is because of Amos & Savage, not Martinez.

3-4 defenseS you Need TWO ILBs that can move and Hit. If you want to make BELIEVE THE 3-4 IS YOUR PATHWAY TO A CHAMPIONSHIP ,YOU BETTER GET THE PERSONNEL TO RUN IT.

Aaron needs to keep Behnke away from reading Twitter. He’s going to lose his mind if he hasn’t done so already. LOL.

I have to agree with the sentiment that was put forth on the show: Why oh why does Pettine not play more 'Press Man' coverage?

Is it because the DBs lack in long arms, is it because the DBs lack in coverage skills, or is it simply an all-around talent thing?

So often, at the latter stages of a contest, when the #Packers know that the pass is the other team's only option, that they play Zone coverage with holes so big even bad receivers could catch a pass. Couple that with a 3-man pass rush and you have the makings of a scoring drive every time. Why?

It's because of things like this that I'm not convinced that Mike Pettine is the man to steer the defense.
