Re: Aaron Rodgers' INT-phobic approach might not entirely be the best thing for the Packers offense:

Man, I've been trying to get this across to people for the last few years. Between Rodgers refusal to deliver the ball between the hashes, to his lack of trust of younger WR's, his proclivity to throw it away or take a sack instead of risk throwing to a WR who's got a defender within 3 yards of him (That year or two when the narrative was WR's couldn't get open? Well, not open enough for Rodgers, even though other QBs around the league regularly let it rip to similarly covered targets). Aaron Rodgers does less with the tools around him than any other top tier passer in the NFL.

It wasn't always like this. It's been creeping into his game over the last 4 years. Exception: When his back was against the wall, and there was nothing left to lose, no choice but to "run the table", he started to cut it loose again, and we saw the results. It was a high mark. The magic was back.

Watching film of the QB that was Aaron Rodgers from 2010-2014 and comparing it to the QB of the last many years is night and day. This man used to put the ball into insanely tight windows and leave defenders wondering how he did that. Now, he typically seems to run risk assessments like an actuary or a loan officer before delivering a ball.

I don't get how Rodgers can preseason games meaningless & refuse to play. Then when we get eliminated from the playoffs say every game counts. As the article says in its name Preaseason in December... hypacrite?

You act like Rodgers is the only qb1 who sits preseason games... Those live games reps for backups are super important..

Jonathan Spader's picture

Like Rodgers would say jeep you're putting words in my mouth. Never said Rodgers is the only QB1 who sits most do. What I said was he sits because he views the preseason games as meaningless. If we're eliminated from playoffs how are these last 2 games not meaningless?

Oppy's picture

Very few if any QB1's have played as few snaps as AR did this past preseason while healthy and available.

Good point!

Wonder how much of Rodgers sitting in preseason was Rodgers vs MM? Here is betting Rodgers plays more in next years preseason.

Rodgers barked back at reporters that the lack of snaps in preseason doesn't affect his readiness for the regular season when asked about his lack of play time.

Rodgers also snapped at reporters when asked if getting back to full practice after his leg injury this year was going to help him prepare and perform on sunday. He was pretty adamant it wouldn't make a difference (which is a bunch of mularky).

It may have been MM's decision to rest Rodgers during the preseason, but I'm guessing Aaron feels pretty strongly about NOT playing in preseason games, considering the way he has responded to questions about it over the years. Either way... I hope the next HC puts his ass out there for at least a full series each of the first two games and for a full half during game 3.

Wish football TV networks would have option where you could consistently have split screen. One screen on QB and other showing defensive backfield with receivers and defensive backs.

Thinking of going to the game on Sunday. Is there a CheeseheadTV section?
