Interesting to think of it as a draft within a draft, by which I mean that the Packers are competing with the teams immediately above and below: Buffalo, Denver, Cincy, Miami, Atlanta, Washington.

These teams are eyeing the same group of prospects. They are the ones who might realistically pass you to grab your prize, or whom you might pass.

That’s why Gute might want to limit visits, or to do “fake” visits. It’s an elaborate game.

Packers might covet a prospect, say Dillard, but would not want to indicate that, as another team in that group might also. If, say, Miami wants him, but doesn’t think the Pack do, Miami might be inclined to stay put. If Cincy wants him, but doesn’t know the Pack do, as well, GB could jump up to Denver’s spot.

To your point- GB did not have a pre draft visit with Jaire Alexander or Josh Jackson. I’m a proponent of GB following the blue print from NO Saints 2017 draft. Picking Premium positions.

There’s another overlooked aspect to the Packers perceived vs. actual needs. King and Alexander are often injured. Jackson is a question mark. Believe it or not, the Pack need to draft another corner. They could possibly draft the top corner at #12, whoever that might be. More likely is they use #30.

Sonomaca,
From everything I have seen and read it doesnt really look like there is a DB that is consistentently rated at 12 or above. It doesnt appear to be a good year for DB's.

My preference would be anyone out of Fant, Oliver, Burns, Gary, White or Bush. OL a little later in draft.

Well, Pettine relies on his corners. In the nightmare scenario, King and Alexander go out, and your outside corners are Truman and Jackson. Yikes.

I don’t know who the Packers might target. I think it would be Murphy. They’ve already shown they like Washington corners.

Fact is, Murphy is not Jaire, but he is very good. He plays a premium position. You use top of the 1st round on premium positions.

I would take Murphy at #12. However, I think he’ll already be gone to Detroit at #8.

If the Packers are not going to get TJ hockenson at number 12. I would not fool around with Noah fant we might as well just forget about the drafting of a tight end. I believe if you draft hockenson you're going to get a Rob Gronkowski type player , but if you draft Noah Fant your going to get probably a Vernon Davis type player, but when you really look at Vernon Davis's stats he only had three really solid years but only after he was in the league for 3 or 4 years. And your not getting any type of real blocker.

Finley sucked...How many dropped balls did that guy have in 3rd down when we needed to keep the drive alive. A. Rodgers could not trust him anymore and no you won't get a good one. Churmra, K. Jackson were the Packers best.

I understand your excitement over Hock but what are your reasons for dissing the selection of Fant? Do you have any idea how the Pack might see him and project him in their offense? I have talked often this past month about how Fant would change the Packers offense opening things up. That the signing of Lewis casts some doubt on Hock IMO and signals possibility of Fant.

'Milwaukee Journal

During the course of the NFL, they didn't like me,' Finley said of Packers fans. 'That's my opinion. I don't know every Packer fan, but I felt like no one liked me just because I like to talk — and tell the truth.'

The fans' exasperation with Finley boiled over after a playoff loss to the New York Giants on Jan. 15, 2012. Finley, who struggled with drops throughout his career, had three passes bounce off his hands incomplete. Two of them certainly should have been caught.

After the game, a posse of disgruntled fans waited for Finley to leave the players' parking lot at Lambeau Field. A caravan of cars — he thinks there were six — followed Finley's vehicle, a Porsche, all the way to his house. They circled his neighborhood several times, and with each lap came a new wave of expletive

Bottom line was that Finley had the potential to ge s star and failed. Fant will disappoint as well.

I wouldn't say he failed. He did have drops. And yes I do remember the boos. But I also remember big games and catches. From what I heard the packers are very high on Fant. They like him a lot!

Biggest problem Finley had was a poor personality coupled with immaturity. Everyone struggled with Finley. Talented but couldnt remain humble and keep his mouth shut. Couldnt seem to get along with Rodgers.

I would potentially compare and Noah fant to possibly Vernon Davis and Vernon Davis was supposed to be the greatest thing since sliced bread better than Tony Gonzalez Etc and his combine stats were off the charts. it took him a few years to get going and then he only had three solid years, but then after that started just being an average tight end.

TJ hockenson you get a great blocker and get a young player sophomore coming out of college you get a Gronk type player who can both get you touchdowns and is a good receiver and can start day 1 and we'll probably have a longer more successful career than fant.

You do not draft TE’s at #12, period. That’s a waste, no mattter how good. It’s QB, offensive tackle, pass rusher, or corner.

Oliver, Burns, Murphy. If they’re all gone, I would strongly consider Greedy or Dillard. I might even consider Lock.

I would even be reluctant to draft Devin Bush. A rare athlete at a non-premium position.

My reason for looking at Lock is that the Pack may not get another shot at an elite QB prospect. Rodgers was a backup for 3 years. Lock really needs 3 years, anyway.

Rodgers may say he wants to play past 40, but we’ve seen what happens. The arm strength goes. Saw it with Peyton. Seeing it with Brady and Brees now.

Latest Mock Draft - On board for the Tennessee Titans, but with four quarterbacks and four offensive tackles coming off the board already, T.J.Hockenson makes it through. The Titans should be dancing in their draft room.

A near-perfect prospect, Hockenson is a three-down tight end who can block and open up the receiving game; looking like a 10-year veteran while coming out of Iowa as a redshirt sophomore. His all-around game is so developed that he has the tools to start his rookie season with All-Pro traits.

Tight end: Matt LaFleur’s offense is based on creating the illusion of complexity, and arguably no type of player helps create the illusion better than a dual-threat tight end. The Packers need one that can run, catch and block. Jimmy Graham and Marcedes Lewis will return, but both are specialized, one-dimensional players who will likely be gone after 2019

Let's see eho can be a dual threat? Anyone guess?
