Happy to hear that you've liked Wooden and Brooks so far. Not surprised to hear Andy praise each player's pass rush while noting that they need work as run defenders. Sigh - the Packers have a type.

Good to hear that Van Ness was able to bully an OG while playing inside, even if it was only Royce Newman. I kind of still had hope for Newman. This is Newman's third year: the time is now for him. I suppose as a fourth rounder he isn't expensive depth, but at some point a player needs to be more than that.

Newman was iffy as a rookie and I think clearly bad last year. MLF took too long to sit him down. I have low expectations from Newman and I hope Jake Hanson is gone.

Inexpensive depth is cool, as long it's reliable. It's kind of a like a spare tire....if it's not good enough to do what it needs to do, you need a different spare.

One rep in shorts is nothing to get our panties in a wad over. If we truly have 10 OL better than Newman, great, but I don't think we will.

I always feel that rookies tend to suck the life out of any discussion on who might really step up this year. I get it, they are the shiny new toys that catch peoples eye, but I'm most interested in the guys who were rookies last year and maybe even the year before.

These are the guys we want to see take a jump because they already know the system (or should) so much better than a rookie and have had a year (or more) of NFL level coaching and NFL level strength and conditioning.

So while others follow every scrap of news about how the rookies are looking in shorts, I'm waiting to see how guys like WRs Watson, Doubs, Toure and Melton are faring with the pads on. Or (at other positions), Etling, Goodson, Tom, Rhyan, Wyatt, Walker, Enagbare, for example, or longer shots like Rasheed Walker and Caleb Jones.

They won't all take the big jump we hope they make, but some will.
