Murphy said the two sides had agreed to avoid pulbic comments and then makes two public comments, neither complimentary, about Rodgers.

Help me, who is the good guy in this dispute?

Neither side makes a comment publicly without much thought behind it. Murphy no doubt dropped that comment for a well planned out reason whatever it might be.

What I do know is no matter what Murphy does or says there is going to be a percentage of people who will want to blame him for pretty much everything. I even was upset with Murphy for about the last 3 years of TT and MM being in control until they departed. I have been very happy otherwise with Murphy.

Rodgers is an f'ing diva treated exceptionally well by the Packer organization for 16 years. Subsequently, until I hear otherwise hat the FO did something terribly wrong (and not some perceived fault by Rodger's) I'm supportive of the FO, and Love.

Actually, my question is sincere.
Lots of Rodgers bashing here, lots of MM/Gute bashing too.
No good guy then?

For me the good guy / bad guy tag will be given - upon whom is seen to be the winner or loser.

Rodgers is under contract and the team has told him they want him this year. Does that clear it up?

Didn't James Jones just make public comments as well - as per Aaron Rodgers?

I am having a difficult time thinking Rodgers would not take umbrage being called "complex" vs "complicated". And neither adjective is worthy of a purple fit from Rodgers. He of the "beautiful mystery" genre.

I am not a big fan of Murphy's PR skills per se but it seems he has to be perfect whereas Rodgers is held to a different standard. At least Murphy doesn't use anonymous surrogates and leaks to reporters to tell his side.

Aaron Rodgers is an emotional 2-year-old who can't find his pacifier! He dumps his family, friends, and girlfriends, enough said. I wish the media would stop kissing this narcissists guy's ass because he is talented. Did we not just go through 4 years of this with Trump....

The difference is that Rodgers is actually excellent at what he does on the field. The other is a malignant narcissist who has failed at literally everything he has ever done in his life going all the way back to being expelled from elementary schools for bullying and cowardly dodging the draft while others were volunteering to go.

The sad part is that Murphy’s comment just proves the FO has not been paying attention. If they knew Rodgers is complicated why after 16 years do they not know how to deal with him? Worse yet would be if they have not realized until now that Rodgers is complicated.

I think all of us who follow the Packers know that Rodgers is a complex person and that it could be complicated to reach a solution with him. How does Murphy become President of an organization with hundreds of employees (not to mention the players) and Gute become an NFL GM (which is a people role) without either realizing that everyone is complex. Rodgers maybe more so than most others. To me that’s the essence of arrogance (assuming that any person is not complex) except themselves of course. Thanks, Since ‘61

Calling someone "complicated" is not an insult; the opposite of "complicated" is "simple" or "shallow", both of which ARE insults. If AR takes this as an insult, then the problem is in within himself. not in what Murphy said.

I used to think it might be fun to have a beer with AR, now, not. I had a college roommate who was into this " beautiful mystery" passive-aggressive bullshit, and I'd rather do anything than have a beer with him. AR is EXACTLY like this guy.

And thank goodness they are working to solve the problem ... think if they wanted to eliminate what they would be able to do!

Trump was not a bit talented in any way. Just weak, unamerican, lacy and dumb like hell. Media was good and some are in AR camp others not, just like the fans.
Im in no ones camp but I would think it makes more sense to start over with Love. We have to do it anyway next year......

Congratulations on your leftist indoctrination.
If you love America and our constitution he was the best president since Ronald Reagan. Obviously you watch way too much socialist main stream media.
That aside after a few games this regular season, you may wish that Rogers was in the saddle.... that is of course if you enjoy winning.

And look who is in the White House now? Are you serious?

That's silly statement of yours aside, I still would prefer to have Rogers here and Gute gone.

I’m still on managements side and hope they hold firm. Only way I move him is if they get an offer that blows them away. If Rodgers wants to retire, then retire. This is a team game.

Murphy is showing very poor judgment in making these statements. I believe they only make the situation worse. Shut up with the public statements and work on talking to Rodgers and solving this!

You’re right complicated was too much! Let’s go with petty, childish, narcissistic, etc. Tired of the drama with Rodgers!

My experience, with a number of "complicated" people, is that they are usually pursuing a deeper sense of fulfillment - even if they've achieved a high level of success and notoriety. In other words, they're not particularly happy or content people. Often times this pursuit/longing is misdirected - especially in middle-age men - in the form younger women, sports cars, man buns etc. The Packers have ties with psychologists - so I'm pretty sure they know what they're dealing with in Rodgers. Of course, they are not going to publicly disclose their inner-most thoughts. Still, Murphy's comments are interesting. Perhaps just a subtle message that he (Rodgers) is on the Packers schedule - not vice versa.

That's exactly what I've been saying for some time!
If Rodgers does not intend to meet the expiration of the contract he is an infamous (or any other adjective you prefer), but if it is Gute who does not want to reach the expiration instead it is fine !!!
The reality is that in these cases (with these differences) for both parties it becomes just business. So whoever is more able to frame the other wins. And in this case AR nailed Gute. he will probably retire .... and we will start from scratch (ZERO) ...... but with a lot of "love" for Gute

Murphy's comment was at best unnecessary. I see no circumstance in which it is helpful and several under which it is harmful. Motormouth Murphy just said the less said in public the better and then immediately fails to follow his own dictum. It is like he is a politician.

I think a reasonable connotation is to place blame on AR for this situation. It almost seems like the organization is preparing the fan base for the departure of AR either as its preferred outcome or as an inevitability.

I'd sign MVS for 3 yrs and $15M in a heartbeat. Is that just tacked on to his $2M base or is it really 4 years and $17M? I don't think he'd sign for those numbers. I think he gets Mike Wallace money - $8M AAV. I also don't see an easy way to extend him without ballooning his cap number for this year, though if he's is willing to sign for such a low number as $4M to $5M per year, that's more doable, especially if GB using the ubiquitous void years structure to stretch it out over five years.

Thanks for doing this, Andy! Great perspectives.

Agree with you Murphy probably takes more heat from fans than he deserves. In spite of that, this latest offering, while clunky, was more a window into their thinking. Let’s not forget just a week prior the commentary was AR divided the fan base. Both point to their moving away from AR rather than there being a coming together. None of those things would be said in public if they were negotiating to keep AR...

TGR, I agree with you this might be more prep for the fan base on the inevitability of AR not coming back.

Adam Schefter? I -used to- respect him.

Agree on the Joe Barry effect being a positive one. Praise plus accountability. And, you’re right. Those coverages forcing check downs Day 1 of Mandatory was a good thing - on a couple levels. The coverage was good enough and JL didn’t throw into it, made good decisions. Just a practice, but a couple points on the plus side.

Have doubts that MVS won’t settle for a reduced contract now. Should be an interesting “prove-it” season for him.
