I saw on the athletic the proposed trade package for Rodgers was Jeudy and 2 firsts. The others where worse an included expensive middling QBs like Derek Carr.

LOL that's less than the Lions got for Stafford. What a joke.

Jeudy, two #1s and two #2s where a R3 pick is added for each #1 pick less than pick 16, would do it for me.

Surtain or Chubb would be better. I like DE Shelby Harris and ILB Baron Browning too. Your take on conditional R3s added is good.

We don't need Jeudy, and you will know that once you watch some Bailey Gaither tape!!! (Thanks for the heads up Coldworld!)

Unlike the hosts - I DO WANT AARON RODGERS TRADED. I have had enough of his histrionics and this low-grade soap opera. At this point I would trade Rodgers for a Tom Brady autographed, deflated football. However for the benefit of the team, other trade options are probably better. There is the rare opportunity for a new era defining trade package for the Packers - perhaps with some short term pain - but with a massive long term gain. Grasp the brass ring!

TOTALLY AGREE!!!

This rationale some people are offering regarding attempts to bring AR back in the hopes of winning another SB or two, as is the dream, seem fraught with peril for the Packers. This isn't the AR from last year, the one who was trying with the rest of our team to win a SB. This is the guy who threw a hand grenade into our draft room just 15 days ago.

I see that as possibly more of a risk than just trading him and going with JL as our starter. AR doesn't want to be here, and people are willing to compromise management hierarchy to appease him??? Since when is that OK?

Giving him team controls? Paying him more money because he held a gun to our heads?

I'll refrain from saying anything more than FUCK NO. TRADE HIM!!! The team is bigger and more important, and in my eyes, the odds of winning a SB with a MVP QB with one foot out the door are lesser than going with Jordan Love and a full complement of players brought in trade and FA, hungry to show they are the right choice.

It is a unique situation, one where I prefer going with Jordan Love, a guy who has never thrown an NFL pass as our starter PLUS players/picks brought in trade, over caving to the reigning MVP at great cost to the team and its future.

Somebody else is going to get an exceptional QB. He's just not for us anymore. He said so himself (the claims have not been denied. Rather, propped up with Mike Tirico read statement AR passed to him the following day - "disappointed that news has come out of this rift..."). Might as well cash in & move forward.

The Packers were never able to build a complete team around Rodgers. No matter how well the offense and Rodgers performed, it was never enough to get them to the Super Bowl due to coaching mistakes, defensive collapses, ST screw-ups, etc. I don't think Rodgers believes that Green Bay will do any better, or even as well, as last year, no matter how well he plays. So, for him, it's time to move on, one way or the other. For the Packers, the most common sense approach would be to accept the reality, and deal with it - by dealing Rodgers for the best return possible. Based on what I've seen from the Packers FO, which begins and ends with Mark Murphy, I don't see them doing that. It's a corporate culture, and Murphy runs the Packers and Titletown District. From his standpoint, I think he sees it as a sign of weakness to give in to a player's trade demand. Maybe so, maybe not. Ultimately, the blame for this goes to Rodgers, who signed a five year deal at a time when he HAD to know who the Packers were and were not. He should have moved on when he had the chance.

GG,
Eloquently stated and IMO the best commentary so far on CCTV about the Rodger's soap opera.

IMO, there is NO other option than to trade him due his selfish behavior negatively impacting the team, disrupting the front office, the draft, and upsetting the fan base. The impact will be felt for many years yet. Personally, I will struggle to enjoy even watching him in 2022 if he is in a Packers uniform. The Pack MUST not cave in to him as the precedent for the team, but also the whole NFL. If Rodger's does not agree to be traded than he 100% should sit and the team that holds his contract doesn't budge.

Many might not like the following statement but Jordan Love in this scenario needs to be the starting QB in 2021 if Rodgers is gone. The longer Jordan sits the longer it takes for his development, and the shorter his rookie salary remains. I would prefer in a trade that we are not giving up draft capital for a veteran QB that is not going to help the team achieve it's long-term goals. JL is fully competent and just needs game experience, and BB will be the back-up. Give me draft choices, and young talented players at positions that definitely help lift the Packers to success.

1. He is not stupid. Ergo he will not retire and pay back the 30 mil he was given in advance. So retirment talk is a no brainer.
2. The Packers hold all the cards. They paid him the bucks, he signed the deal and thus either he plays for them or pays them. See 1 above.
3. A trade is possible but only if the Packers brass can live with mediocrity the next few years. I say they cant and if this becomes a losing team, Murphy, Gutt are goners and they know it.
Thus, Rodgers will be returning at some time in the future and will get a big contract and that will again bankrupt the team from keeping and paying other good players. Good bye Batairi, Jones, Alexander, nice knowing ya.

Stockholder,
I respectfully don't agree!

MVP QB's don't just fall from trees. Every team sitting there with a mediocre to even a decent QB has been running all kinds of scenarios of what it would take to get into the Rodger's trade discussions. Risk vs Reward! Every GM and team that might be successful in acquiring Rodgers will be in the same boat as MM and Gutey. The trade will forever be remembered and will go down in history. Both sides will want it to be favorable, otherwise jobs will be lost.

Do not count out the Patriots, which no one is talking about! Belichek is 70-years old and he wants to win now for SO MANY reasons (Brady). Would he mortgage the future of the Patriots? Absolutely!

I do believe some people are setting themselves up for being upset with some of the crazy trades and the # of 1st round draft choices. Any trade absolutely has to make sense to both teams. In any trade the other team get Rodger's for the 2021 season (in addition to future seasons), therefore the Packers MUST get current players in return besides future draft choices for this season. Anything else would be a losing proposition for the Packers, therefore the Packers must get players back for the 2021 season, as well as the addition of future draft choices.

If the trade value was there I would consider Adams in a packaged deal (I would keep MVS as an upcoming and talented player and extend him), but only if the other team provided a talented young WR such as Jeudy who has 3 years and an option year left on his rookie contract. The Packers team is young and has a lot of upcoming talent. Adams is close to 30-years old and has hinted he might not be back after 2021 if Rodger's is gone. Gutey and MM must have both the short range and long range vision, so I hope Adam's is at least considered part of the trade. Let's face it if Rodger's goes Adam is not going to have nearly the same impact for the Packers in 2021 with a different QB. Remember it was only after Sterling Sharpe got injured that Favre developed as QB. Favre was forced to spread the ball around, which is exactly what JL needs to do. Furthermore, if Adam's stats go down in 2021 with a QB other than Rodger's he either walks after the season, and/or his value to the Packers, and any other team is significantly less than it is right now. It will be painful to many of Packer fans but bundle them and trade but make darn sure the haul in return makes up for it.

Simply where I am today about this whole mess!

Agree that there will not likely be a windfall. Nobody will pick him up without Rodgers fully endorsing the trade. This gives the few teams on rodgers list a lot of leverage to negotiate a favorable deal for themselves. If pack doesn't want to deal, they can just wait a year until most people think he'd have been traded anyway and the whole saga replays again.

I'm not saying I support trading him, just that the trade won't be as good as we expect it to be.

I think he should show up and play his contract. If he strings together 3 years like last year, he would retire a pack like he wants. Btw, I can't help but feel there is more of a learning curve needed for love. if he was close ti ready, I'd think the front office would jump on trading for a few 1st round picks.

I'm still feeling this is the year we'r make it ti the superbowl.

AR frustrates the hell out of me every time he holds the ball too long but I am prepared to live with that as long as we can work this problem out and get back to football! Superbowl or bust! The Packers are so close!

But if push comes to shove, I believe AR's trade value is worth a premium right now.

If he returns and the Pack fails to win the SB next year, his trade value is most likely, significantly less than it is today. If AR returns and wins another SB, he will retire a Packer.

Go Pack!

Let me first say as a Packer fan this drama is extremely frustrating. It literally ruined my draft night. In the words of Economist Thomas Sowell "there are no solutions only trade-offs". So looking at it that way the cost of not bringing him back are to high. We were a couple bad coaching decisions away from going to the Superbowl. It will be more beneficial forgoing long-run assets at an attempt short-run success. But what the hell do I know.

What is the cost of bringing Aaron Rodgers back? Is he the same guy? NO!!! HE JUST TORCHED ALL OF PACKERLAND... How do you bring yourself to trust THAT???

The "trade off" you speak of is going with the guy you researched, interviewed (he had several talks with the Packers coaching staff prior to the 2020 draft), and traded for a year earlier than expected as your starter.

Not trading away the team and it's future...

Coach,
Depending on one's view someone might say there were some bad coaching calls, but if being fair one might also say Rodgers had 3 shots in the end zone at the end. One was an errant throw to an open Adams who unfortunately dropped a difficult but catchable ball. Stuff happens and that is why we watch these games/sport.

I am often surprised by how much a team got for player X.
I am often surprised by how little a team got for player Y.

Seems like bad timing to get maximum return for AR.

So, I have no idea. Two firsts (or equivalent like Surtain) and a third in 2023?

Stafford trade is probably a good measuring stick for Rodgers. Rodgers is older, but better and he believes if will have 5-6 good years left. Maybe a player, two firsts, and a second with conditional picks if the new team is very successful?

Guam,
Yes, Rodgers is somewhat older than Stafford, and Rodgers has had some broken collar bones, but Stafford had a pretty serious back injury a year or two ago if I recall. I have had a broken collar bone from sports, and I have had back injuries. Give me a broken collar bone every day of the week over a serious back injury. At a minimum without knowing Staffords injury I'd say I might take Rodgers over Stafford even though he is older simply because of Stafford's back. Maybe...

Except the Rams/Detroit deal went down Jan. 31st or so. Every team was available as a trade partner. Now, it is Mid-May and only a handful of teams have the capital, the cap space, and the desire for a QB. Stafford turned 33 in February whereas AR turns 38 in December. More than 4 years younger.

To get AR Denver is not going to want to ship out so many stars that they still aren't a contender.

However, what teams get in trades still seems hard to forecast. I think your prediction is good, but the player won't be Chubb. Shelby Harris is a nice player: Denver just signed him and gave a $9M signing bonus they'd have to eat in its entirety. Von Miller missed all of 2020 with a non-contact ankle tendon dislocation. He is 32, in this last year on his deal that will pay him $18M. So, probably not Miller though GB would be just $2M shy on cap space with a June 2 trade. Alexander Johnson is a 30-year old RFA at ILB on a 2nd round tender. PFF loved him is all I know about him. Ditto for DreMont Jones, a 3rd year 24-year-old RDE in a 3-4. PFF loves him and he is 286 pounds. Does he fit? IDK.

I agree with you on trade values, TGR. They can go all over the place. You’re also right that this may not be the best time to trade AR.

The team might look at it more like, “If not now, when?”

There’s no question their hand is being forced if they want a return. Does a 37 year old MVP QB hold the same value today as he does after sitting for a year?

IMO, the guy made his wishes known, past the point of no return, so you deal him for what you can.

Packer fans want the price high. The team trading for AR wants low. Deal needs to be done if we don’t make AR sit. The price will align somewhere in the middle.

I prefer talking high on price to keep discourse up in that air, but I understand it will much likely be lower. No point in down-talking AR now while we Packer fans want to get the best price possible. As a lifelong Packer fan I’m pissed as hell at him for this, but see our team is in a jam. By who’s making doesn’t matter now, and will be learned eventually. There are essentially two teams, DEN & LV who fit, want AR and can swing it. We’ll just have to hope for the best.

Should be interesting to see how it plays out w players/picks.

I agree with Rodgers, Gute has not been proactive in getting better WR talent. Gute should have burned 2-#1's and gotten Jefferson at #20. We would more than likely have a super bowl championship right now. Gute has improved the defense by $ and high draft picks. After last seasons playoffs, we need a little more. Gute has now addressed that and even finally the DL to a small extent. Rodgers is so good he plays better than most without trying too hard. The problem is it took a rookie to put enough fire under him to perform like we were used to years ago. Gute has assembled an overall quality football team with good players on Offense and Defense. Rodgers needs to acknowledge it and even appreciate it as this team was in sad shape just a few short years ago. ML Offense schemes his offense open and his job is easier. Being an older guy his new run game is taking some of the burden off him along with a Defense that is much better than years past. The new Slot WR is going to be very good. I believe Gute has done enough for a better chance at a super bowl as of now. I'm not sure what Rodgers really wants but maybe guarantee the rest of his contract with a couple playoff or MVP kickers. We have a lot of money riding on the team to win now and that's exactly what we should be trying to do. I do think this Love kid is going to be good with all the good players he has been surrounded with. Either way the season WILL go on.

17 days until we find out about Aaron Rodgers having been traded to DEN. Do the Raiders sneak in there? THAT is a possibility, as Aaron Rodgers himself has to see an opportunity to work with Jon Gruden to finish out his career would be epic. The Raiders and Gruden also see this, and have the resources to pull it off.

The problem is the screws are turning in this vice. Time is getting short. KC holds AFC West supremacy. Las Vegas came in 2nd last year, but at a distant 8-8. SD has Herbert. DEN has no one at QB but backups, and they are in the cellar, with picks and the 2nd largest amount of cap space at more than $25M. DEN is 0-11 against Patrick Mahomes. They will spend what it takes to get Aaron Rodgers.

DEN has loaded up on defenders, and they will be parting with one or two of them along with 3 R1s - AT the LEAST. I believe the Raiders real interest will keep the price high for the current NFL MVP, which helps the Packers

Gruden has to have appeal for AR, and I wonder if he doesn’t work behind the scenes to make his way there, still, at this late moment. DEN knows this.

DEN passed on Fields at #9. The deal appears done, but how much sweeter is the pot to close this trade for DEN??? Do the Packers take 1 less draft choice to add both Surtain ll AND Chubb??? Both Top 10 picks. Both exceptional defenders.

What if it IS the Raiders??? Who do you want? WR Henry Ruggs lll or DE Clelin Ferrell? S Trevon Moehrig? The NFL Network in trade scenario discussions involving the Raiders proposed TE Darren Waller, WR Henry Ruggs III and DE Max Crosby PLUS TWO R1s...

These discussions will continue over the next 17 days, and the closer we get to June 1st and making a trade official, the higher the offers will be. DEN has to be freaking out right now about the prospect of losing out on Aaron Rodgers. Any trade deal for AR will only get better, not worse during this time for the reigning MVP in the prime of his career - who simply wants out of Green Bay.

For my friends here who think AR will return, Keyshawn Johnson made a great point this morning. When has a player in any sport said they will not return to their team, and then return? It never happens. I didn’t want this either, but since news broke on draft day, I've tried looking at the positive solutions possible for GB - and a trade seems our only solution. I think we may have no choice.

GG,
Loving your enthusiasm for 7 am this morning. I would definitely take Surtain and Chubb for one less 1st rounder. These guys are plug and play ready right now in 2021 without having to wait till 2022 draft. As you said they were top 10 or so draft selections vs possibilities of Rodgers pushing the Packers trade selection down. Have no doubt if we were to obtain players like this the Pack would need to give up someone like Stokes. As much as I'd like Surtain I don't want to give up Stokes. His interview was impressive and seemed like a quality young man. The Packers have bigger needs on DL, LB, and WR.

My preference in players from Denver in a trade would be Jeudy and Chubb. In the past, I have said don't take a QB to maximize trade capital, but I might make an exception with Drew Lock. The pendulum for him at 24 years of age and being a higher #2 draft choice I believe is on the upswing. With Lock and Love at QB the Packers would be in an enviable situation as they mature and grow into the position. Would definitely take Lock over Bridgewater but would Denver give him up?

There is no way we part with Eric Stokes. I was talking about adding Surtain ll to Eric Stokes & Jaire Alexander.

Can you imagine that secondary?

And, when I said take one less pick for throwing Chubb in WITH Surtain ll, was thinking from 3 to 2 R1s. The price isn’t going down. It is going up with Jon Gruden interested.
