For which Lombardi-era Packer player he'd most want to have on this year's team, Aaron picks Bart Starr to replace Aaron Rodgers. I'll pick RT Forrest Gregg to replace Wagner. Lombardi called Forrest Gregg "the finest player I ever coached"; Gregg was on the NFL's 75th anniversary All-Time Team.
I had to think hard about several others, including Dave Robinson or Ray Nitschke at LB, given question marks at ILB, but RT has more positional value to me. Even though the current Packers are relatively strong at CB, "you can never have too many cornerbacks," and Herb Adderley would be a great addition. DE Willie Davis could be mighty valuable to today's team.
In the next group, I'd put these guys as honorable mentions: Paul Hornung, Henry Jordan, Bart Starr. No slight on those guys, but given Packers on current team and/or players above, they're worth mentioning, but I'd go with the four guys above. Although I watched them play, I'm not an expert, so I'd be interested in other's opinions.
