MM's other best = replacing Hawk with Barrington.

I Agree 100%. It's about time. The Defense is Much Better without Hawk in there.. I've been saying it for 3 years.

I must say, As much as I liked James Jones & wanted to keep him, & STLL WISH he were on this team, Devante Adams has filled in Admirably. I'm still a James Jones fan, but I believe Devante Adams in time, will be a Great Player. LVT

He looks more like Greg Jennings to me. I think Adams is going to be awesome.

He is 2" taller on paper, about a 1/2 foot taller in real life, compared to Greg Jennings. My sister-in-law tells me she is eye level with him when he wears his styling boots with heels.

Do I dare say it? Mike McCarthy out coached Bill Belichick. It's time that Packer fans realize just how good of a coach MM is. Belichick does not seek out the opposing coach after a game, specially after a loss and has a conversation with him. MM gained BB's respect yesterday. It's time for all Packer fans to give MM his due as one of the elite coaches in the NFL.

It's the second time he's done it. But the last time Matt Flynn's limitations and a bad defense were too much to overcome.

Agreed on Flynn's limitations, but If by "bad defense" you mean a 71 yard KOR by Dan Connolly and a missed pick 6 by Woody, then we're agreed. GB's D was AWESOME in the latter half of 2010.

I was at that game in Foxboro in person. GB should have won it - they were the better team even without Rodgers.

That Dan Connolly play, it still pisses me off! The defense played great, held NE to like 250 total yards. Flynn had the Packers down to the Pats 11 yard line after a completion and just ran out of time trying to get a play in. They should have had 2 plays called but didn't.

There was a good scheme and a lot of good adjustments last night. He definitely put the Packers in a position to win.

Everyone is happy but I think this win is more of an AR outplaying Brady story than MM out-coaching Belichek. For MM to get full credit, we would have to have scored TD's in the red zone. Brady did not play his best but was that due to Packer pressure? Maybe that's why Brady was swearing his head off!

For MM to get full credit, Adams needs to have not dropped a sure TD and Rodgers needs to have not overthrown an open Cobb in the first quarter?

Doesn't seem fair.

Yea, you lost me on this one, Pacman. MM & Capers did A HELL OF A JOB coaching that game. We have to start giving them credit when it comes to signature wins like this.

As I was writing that post I was second guessing myself but then turned back. Clearly the defense has been taught to work the new schemes. And clearly some of the offensive sets worked well. It's not like they did a bad or even mediocre job. They did a very good job - finally. But without Rodgers making those pinpoint accurate throws, it all goes for naught. He is just unbelievable. I was watching with a Miami fan and he was just astounded. The only negative about the game, and all agree, was the red zone performance. 4x! You have to give the Pats credit but 4x? This was the Pats calling card - their version of bend but don't break. And we didn't have an answer for that. I would give Capers a better mark than MM for pulling the D together.

It's hard to separate coaching from playing. Coaching good players make you look good. In this modern game, having Rodgers starts you as a 'good' coach. You've got to do something really special to be great. Many on this site have been all over MM coaching abilities. I just didn't see enough yesterday to remove all that.

Totally random comment - that last throw by Rodgers to Cobb to get the first down is Exhibit A for why that analysis done on fivethirtyeight.com about Rodgers being too conservative late, based on various spreadsheet statistics, is fatally flawed.

Please stop it.
Just because the Pack defeat a good team at home, suddenly MM is an elite HC. --- He's an average HC with an elite OB (AR). All elite OBs carry their HCs. Check out the history books.

He may not be elite but he is certainly better than average. Nobody wanted Rodgers, MM helped make him the player he is today.

No matter how many playoff appearances or titles the Packers win, there'll always be haters. Like they could have done better. Take a look at the NFCN, how many coaches have there been since the MM era alone?

Obviously you're content to gauge the Packers in comparison to the patsies. (Lions, Bears, Vikings)

The Pack are 1-3 in the last 3 seasons in the playoffs. ---- Sounds like you'd be fine with 1-4 after this year.

I'm not. - Neither are the Pack.

You don't even know or understand the straw man (it's actually two words) argument.------ Most people bring it up only because they are too lazy to string together some kind of real, cohesive refute.

Try this question.
Who's better at their job? The HOF QB or the HC who coaches the HOF QB?

Even better.
How many HCs who have coached HOF QBs are also in the HOF?

The best.
BF is a guaranteed HOF inductee. AR is very, very close. ---- What are MM's chances? ---- Be honest.

Apples and oranges regarding who is better at their job (but a quick look at the HoF web site says there are 23 "modern era" QBs in the HoF, and 22 HCs. Probably a lot of overlap, but it still wouldn't answer the question of who is responsible for the other's success).

If GB wins another SB or two, I'd say a pretty good chance for McCarthy getting in.

There. I was honest.

Apples & oranges ??
Who's decided this? ---- You?---- It's much easier to make your case when you are also declaring what the rules are. ---- Except it doesn't work that way. ---- Try again.

Kudos to you, Mr. Nagler, for calling yourself out regarding MM. It can be a hard thing to do. This is my mea culpa as well. I never was a MM hater, having ranked him as a well above average HC. Now I would rank MM as a very good coach. I will continue to point out any flaws I perceive (stubbornness, excessive loyalty, failure to adjust sometimes). If MM continues to have more excellent game plans and personnel management, then the discussion might turn to whether MM is a great coach. Go Pack!

I'm with you there. Never thought that MM is a great coach. But his play-calling lately and especially utilization of personnel is superb. He obviously learned. May still be stubborn, but he learned. No problem on my part to say I was wrong about MM.

Here's an interesting take from Mike Martz:
http://mmqb.si.com/2014/12/02/nfl-mike-martz-adam-gase-mike-mccoy-mike-m...

The most interesting to me is the following take on Cobb, when Martz was still in Chicago (remember that failed experiment, trying to change bad Jay...), and wanted the Bears to draft Cobb:
"Says Martz, “I tried to get Chicago to draft him, but they said, ‘No. Too little, not really a receiver.’ ”"
Now they have decent receivers down there, but imagine the 2 huge WRs and the TE, and then Cobb as the 3rd WR... Would be the best 3 WR - TE combination in the league... But then again, glad they didn't pull the trigger.
