Mike McCarthy: Jamari Lattimore Had a Stinger

The linebacker's neck injury was classified as a stinger by Packers head coach Mike McCarthy.

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy met with the media following practice on Wednesday. The following are select quotes from his press conference:

  • On injuries to his starting cornerbacks: Sam Shields, Tramon Williams, I do not (have an update). Just as far as how I view their opportunity to potentially play in the game: Being veteran players, we'll give them every opportunity to get ready. I think Tramon is closer than Sam.
  • On defending the read-option given past struggles: Two years ago was a different football team. This is a new group. We're obviously focused on it. … Obviously Cam Newton's good at running it. … He brings a new dynamic to running the football. … It's definitely a primary concept in the NFL. We're much better prepared than we were a couple years ago.
  • On depth at the cornerback position: It's definitey a credit to our depth and those two guys. ... It's definitely a benefit, and it carries over to special teams.
  • On Aaron Rodgers: I think Aaron's playing very, very well. I think he's spoiling us. I've seen Aaron play better. … He's got a lot of good football in front of him. … It's not really as much his individual performance that I'm referring to … We're not as efficient as we want to be.
  • On Jamari Lattimore's neck injury: I think stinger would be accurate.
  • On running backs sharing the load: It's tough for a runner, it's a Catch-22. When you're a player like Eddie and James, they're big backs. They want the carries … We need to be running the ball from an attempts standpoint like we did this past weekend.
  • On whether it's better for a rookie to play right away or sit and learn: I think it depenes really on the position and what's around them. I think the further away from the ball, your responsibility can be less. I think they can get out there and play sooner.

Hope at least one of our starting CB's can play this week, but were going to need all the cover DB's we have the following week in New Orleans.
