McGinn: Obviously A CHTV Reader

McGinn: Obviously A CHTV Reader

Bob McGinn's excellent year-end wrap up is just about spot on. Surprisingly, it reads as a tidy summation of almost every point I've made about the 2008 Packers throughout the year.

I will say that both in the column and in his season grades, I was surprised at how harsh he was in regards to McCarthy's coaching. Yes, McCarthy presided over a collapse of historic proportions, and his coaching decisions had a large part to do with it. But he never lost his team, even in the midst of a 5 game losing streak and the squad played hard until the end of the year, even when they were out of playoff contention. None of that excuses the teams horrific record in close games, but I think McGinn discounts it more than he should.

I like the picture of McCarthy next to McGinn's grades. I don't read lips, but I'm pretty sure I know what word he was saying.

Gotta disagree with your assessment of MAC's overall grade as HC. As I have posted here before-the question was: What will MAC's next playcall be right after a successful downfield pass? Waaaay too predictable-I didn't even have to stop and look at the screen during games at our Hangout. I could even leave and go to the Bar to get my own brewski-I just knew without a doubt what that next play call would be. Being predictable deserves an F grade.

MAC's most serious error was leaving over half the playbook on his desk, throughout the season depriving Rodgers of the same options that he gave Favre. Very few options at 4 wideout set; almost no options for the 5-wideout, even though we did have the personnel, despite losing James Jones to a very serious PCL injury-whch should have put him on IR, in my book; let's hope Jones has no serious lingering effects which will damage his career. Of all Wideouts, Jones has the best-hands besides DD. Jennings dropped waaay too many passes out there this year. No excuse for dropped passes unless they are off target-end of discussion. They could catch BF's, they "can" catch AR's.

Next Year - MAC had better bring the WHOLE playbook and get rid of the Prevent Football mentality (no more Marty Ball). THEN, I will give him a better grade.

Also - MAC should have overruled Stock's preference to get rid of Jon Ryan - that one bit him in the butt - a seriously WRONG move.
