McCarthy Continues Praise For Jeff Janis

The Packers head coach was once again highly complimentary of the second year wide reciever.

Back in February at the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy indicated that he expected a "big step" from second year wide receiver Jeff Janis.

Fast forward to today's OTA practice and it would seem McCarthy, fresh off watching the wide out catch a touchdown from Aaron Rodgers to win a two minute drill period, is still of that mindset.

Asked about the former Saginaw Valley State prospect, McCarthy certainly sounded as though he is still all-in on Janis' development.

Jeff Janis has definitely been moving forward. I thought he definitely came on last year. He still some things fundamentally he needs to work on, but any time you get reps with the ones and Aaron Rodgers, it definitely boosts your confidence.

It will be interesting to see what happens when the pads come on and things get a bit faster during training camp and preseason games. One thing Janis noticeably struggled with in camp last year was reading defenses on the fly, several times drawing the ire of the starting quarterback. Perhaps having his position group meet along with QB1 will help in that regard.

One thing is for sure, with these types of public comments from McCarthy, there will be no stopping the Jeff Janis Hype Train any time soon.

I know I am just a fan but this kid excites me. Heck we may have 6 or 7 this year you never know they are finding great talent out there.

So many weapons for Rodgers. He must be giddy. Just hope the o-line stays healthy.

Jordy, Cobb, Janis, Jared, Adams, Ty

In that order. Jannis is a faster stronger Jordy Nelson and may become the best of them all.

If it wasn't for Linsley, Jannis, Jared, and Goodson last years draft would have been a complete waste. Ted should let somebody else draft the 1st 4 rounds.

Should have drafted another ILB, TE, NT, or even S instead of Adams last year or Ty this year.

So Haha Clinton-Dix is no good? Last time I checked he played pretty darn good for us. Goodson, Jannis, Jared never made the field much last year.. so I'm guessing you are making your snap judgment off potential?

Sweet baby Jesus that's a lot of awful input there ben.

As said before, HCD was a first rounder who ended up starting by mid-season.

Adams is easily the third option and will be awesome this year. He was one of the main reasons we beat the Pats last year. Once he's had the offseason to completely get on the same page as QB1 he's going to be unbelievable.

I hope Abby and Janis have great seasons too, but get a grip and think before you blog.

Dix, Adams, Richard Rodgers? We don't even know about Thornton and Bradford yet. Bucky Brooks gave the Pack draft class an A- back in February.

I like Janis a lot. He does remind me of Jordy.

The thing that excites me with him is his production last year during the preseason. He just seemed to be one of those guys that just makes plays.
I look forward to seeing how he develops.

This could possibly be the best group of Receivers Rodgers has had. 2011 probably was still better overall, but the potential of this group could be off the charts. Nelson, Cobb, Adams, Janis, Abbrederis, Montgomery all are drafted, all could/should make the 53.
I really am looking forward to seeing the growth in the 2nd year guys. Adams, Abbrederis and Janis. All could have a major impact on the season for the Packers.

I like the group too, but I'm waiting to start the "best overall group" talk until we know a lot more about these guys.
Will Adams make the 2nd year jump and get on the same page as QB1 (If so, he could be outstanding)?
Can Janis make an even bigger 2nd year jump and understand a pro game that is lightyears faster than the college game he played?
Can Abby come back from a bum knee and have enough speed and strength to compete with pro DB's?
Is Montgomery going to be anything more than a servicable return man, or is he going to have a problem with the drops and the complexity of the pro-game?
Thats a lot of questions to answer.

I completely agree. Thats why i said could possibly be. I'm not labeling them that until we see them actually play. 2011's group is/was the best.
I just like the potential of this group. They have 4 young pass catchers who all could emerge.
If the potential turns into production, then it could be the best group.

There are questions, no doubt. The biggest questions for me are with Abbrederis (injury), Janis (ready to compete), and Montgomery (rookie).

The part I like about Montgomery is the different ways they can use him. Not necessarily as a WR, but possibly as a WR out of the RB position. And with the guys ahead of him, they don't need him to produce right away.

Wow, there is a considerable difference between your 2:21 p.m. comment and your 2:29 p.m. comment, especially in tone.

I like the "idea" of what Janis could be but I'm not sold on anyone until they make some big plays in a big games. Adams proved that in the Pats game and in the end of the Miami game.

I don't think it matters what combination of receivers we end up with I think both the health of Rodger's and the offensive line will dictate the offense's success this year.
