Don't like what I heard about the run defense!

I remember that interview with Pettine, and one of his first points was that he was just trying to get his best players out there as much as possible, so in his mind, that meant a lot of dime. It obviously didn't work in the NFCCG, but in the regular-season matchup with SF, while the damage on the ground wasn't too bad, the secondary didn't play very well, either, and Garoppolo had a great game. So with this particular team, it's more than just an issue with the scheme; we're going to need better overall play from both ends of our defense to beat them. Our secondary is definitely going to get better, but with the exception of one player, we're going to need guys to step it up big time up front.

What am I missing, The Packers defense vastly improved from 2018 to 2019 under Pettine. PFF from 24 to 11 for one reference. Others had them as high as 8th. I get the bad games against the run being an issue, but what team doesn't have issues. When your 3-4 DE are poor and your ILB's are average it's going to be rough to have good run defense.

I see it more on Gutey and his FA ILB and DL as well as Keke, Gary and Savage improving from their Rookie seasons. IMO I think they will be improvements.
