Korey Hall, the Spencer Havner of 2011?

Could Korey Hall play defense in a pinch? He tells Cheesehead TV that he could be "serviceable."

With fullback Korey Hall slated to become a free agent this offseason, it got me to wondering whether he'll be back with the Packers and what Green Bay might do to maximize their investment.

Given Hall's special teams proficiency and the fact that he was a starter at middle linebacker at Boise State during his college years, I thought maybe he could be the 2011 version of Spencer Havner as a guy that could play both ways.

I imagine his primary position would still be fullback, and he would continue to contribute to special teams, but could Hall provide depth at inside linebacker in a pinch?

If the Packers decide to part ways with either A.J. Hawk or Nick Barnett, it's possible they could decide to go into the regular season with just three inside linebackers. A guy like Hall could be an emergency fourth-stringer.

Of course, it's still possible Spencer Havner could be the 2009 version of Spencer Havner too. Havner is also a free agent the Packers must whether to re-sign or not.

I recently had the opportunity to ask Hall whether he could play defense, and he didn't dismiss it entirely. Here's what he had to say...

I look at Kuhn as this year's version of Havner. He didn't switch from offense to defense, but he's the marginally talented white guy with the "try hard" work ethic who became a fan favorite this year.

nerdmann---you don't understand football---the position which played very well during the super bowl that was overlooked was the backs. they did an exceptional job pickingup the blitz. if you think kuhn is marginal---you don't grasp football. soocer is always available to you tho

Korey is a team player. He was a good defensive player in college, and obviously is a good tackler on special teams. I just hope he sticks around. However they can use him, I'm sure he would be willing to contribute his best.
