Kellen Winslow Jr. Wants to be a Packer

TMZ Sports reported on Tuesday that former Pro Bowl tight end, Kellen Winslow Jr, who worked out with the Packers in August, has had interest from NFL teams, but he wants to be a Packer

Winslow hasn't played in the NFL since the 2013 season, He was drafted with the sixth overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. He has also played with the Buccaneers, Patriots and Jets and spent time with Seahawks as well.

Million dollar body, 10 cent brain. Don't see it happening.

If the Packers were interested in him, now would be the time that they would consider bringing him in. With the injury to Cook and considering he is still on crutches, this maybe a longer injury for him.

The Packers worked out 2 TE's. Rob Housler and JP Holtz. So there seems to be some concern at the TE position.

rdent's picture

There should have been concern at the TE position after Finley retired, Quarrles looked OK until injuries got to him and I still don't understand what they saw in Richard Rodgers, cant block and can't run and before and after signing Cook a lot of us thought GB would still draft a impact TE.Even if Cook comes back and has a good season I hope they pick up a difference maker TE in next years draft

Razer's picture

Has he been working out with Terrel Owens and Randy Moss?

Ferrari Driver's picture

The guy was a jerk when he came into the league; now is an old jerk.

rdent's picture

I doubt they will actually sign anyone at TE, Teddy still has his draft pick Richard " the parking meter" Rodgers 4.88 40 and UDFA Perillo 4.77 40. Although Winslow is not a likely option neither are the two guys they worked out, thats just Ted kicking the tires just to make it look like he is doing something,we all know that he will stick with who he has

Finwiz's picture

No good - too slow....if he was any good, they would of signed him already. Not to mention the rest of the league has passed. "The parking meter" Rodgers......good stuff. Apt description. I wonder if they actually went out to find the slowest TE in the NFL, because they succeeded.

rdent's picture

Thanks, Rodgers can catch but after he does that's as far as he gets, anyone on the opposing defense can cover or catch him

The TKstinator's picture

That is one thing that really seems odd about RR; he seems to be so easy to tackle for a guy his size.

I'd really like to be on the Green Bay Packers as well. One can dream, right Kellen?

I made my comment about current FA in the other FA post. I'll surmise my position on signing any of these players by simply saying this: No.

MM hasn't been using the TE's anyway. So why try to pick up a retread. A-rod can go long , and thats what everyone wants. WE have such faith in Devante Adams, he will pick up the slack. It wouldn't make sense to cut anybody for winslow. So the packers really don't have to look any further than their roster.

rdent's picture

And we all know that is all TT will do

Finwiz's picture

DPF...don't you think he could be saying "all the right things" because he's desperate? I honestly believe if he had anything to offer they would have signed him for the league minimum, and quickly cut ties with Perillo.

staffordsneckfat's picture

Agreed. I don't think he has had a change of heart. I think he needs a paycheck.

Winslow Jr has a pretty good rap sheet including drug possession, so for good reason my "perception" is based on that display of character.

Winslow got arrested with synthetic weed while jacking off in a parking lot.

I am not making this up:

And since when have you been one to jump to the defense of these guys with drug related arrests? Remember what you (inaccurately) said about Pennell a few months back?

If you forgot:

"Everyone is counting on Pennel, but that's fools gold. He's tested positive 3x's in 2 yrs, not to mention suspended, then kicked out of college at ASU."

So if I am keeping score that means:

Pennel: Tested positive at age 25. DPF wants him gone, total cancer and can't be trusted.

Winslow: Arrested at age 30 while jerking off in a parking lot. Currently unemployed. DPF wants to take his word that things have changed and give him another shot.

Take a side on this drug thing and stick with it.

If you'd just click the link to the story (that I provided) it would tell you that Winslow's drug arrest was in 2014.

Come on DPF, be better.

A blind one legged man could produce the numbers cook has so far. They should end this experiment. He isn't the magic find for teddy. This guy is a bum.

I like the way they got Chmura: 230 lb receiving tight end, lived in the weight room, a year or two later he was up to 250 and had learned to block. After that all he lacked was speed, but he had developed in the weight room (bulked up) and on the practice field learning to block. And this from a sixth rounder. I think they had similar plans more recently for that smallish tight end from Arkansas but things didn't pan out. Things don't always pan out. But I'd rather it be from a mid round choice (with upside) than from a big $ FA.

rdent's picture

D.J. Williams,I thought he would be a good TE- H- back for GB,curently a FA

Bedrock's picture

I loved the comment made that Chmura "outslowed his opponents".

Patrick Sherwood's picture

They will probably just resign Q instead

rdent's picture

And then have to release someone, they have no open roster spots,TT will stand pat

Finwiz's picture

I think "Q" is trouble, otherwise I'd say yeah. But he did have problems with injuries so I think they made the right decision to move on.

Duke Divine's picture

Did he ever get a suspension for whipping his piece out in front of those ladies?

Allan Murphy's picture

Next man up and Rodgers and Perillo will be fine both have good hand blocking they need more work .

Kenard time!
