Jordy Nelson retires as a Packer

Nelson posted 1,250-plus receiving yards and 13-plus touchdown catches in the same season three times in his career.

The Packers announced earlier today that wide receiver Jordy Nelson has signed a one day contract to retire as a member of the Green Bay Packers.

Nelson posted 1,250-plus receiving yards and 13-plus touchdown catches in the same season three times in his career (2011, 2014, 2016), the fourth most in NFL history behind Hall of Famers Jerry Rice (six), Randy Moss (five) and Terrell Owens (four).

The former second round (No. 36 overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft out of Kansas State played in 136 regular-season games with 88 starts during his 10 seasons with Green Bay. He ranks No. 3 in franchise history in receptions (550), No. 5 in receiving yards (7,848), No. 2 in touchdown receptions (69) and No. 3 in 100-yard receiving games (25).

Big time thanks to all Jordy did for the franchise both on and off the field, including his work as an advocate for adoption

Oh how I miss Jordy!
I'm hoping Kumero will be the next Jordy caliber type of player.
There may be the potential of some of these other young receivers on the roster to reach Jordy status but Kumero looks like he has the most immediate potential to me right now.

lol, Kumerow couldn't hold Jordy's jock strap at this point. The only similarities are they are both caucasian. Please stop with the Kumerow flavored kool aid. Kumerow can't run or Jump like Jordy. Jordy is an all time Packer great who's done it during the season and playoffs. You guys can't stop drooling over Kumerow's training camp catches, yeesh. The guy has good PRACTICES and hasn't doesn't squat during the regular season in 5 years in the NFL and you're ready to anoint him the next Jordy? roflmao.

I'm glad you said it... then I won't have to.--- This absurd bromance that some have with Kumerow could very well cease to exist if he can't make the 53... It still isn't assured.

Look at it another way... if he does make the 53, he only has to catch 542 more passes as a Packer to catch Jordy. --- The truth is simple... Kumero's name shouldn't be used in the same sentence with Jordy.

I wouldn't be so hard on this person. After all, the holder of many GBP receiving records was a 7th round nobody who took several years to develop into an NFL Player. Even Jordy took a good 3 years to develop. Kumerow doesn't have the same tools as Jordy, but he's got he work ethic and enough skill that #12 keeps mentioning him. He did alright in the few snaps he got during regular season after coming off the PUP last year. He might get a chance to make some noise this year.

Kumero ain't even the beginnings of a pimple on Jordy Nelson's ass... and that's a fact.

And I thought the article was about Jordy Nelson, who might have played a couple more years as a Packer if Thompson and McCarthy had been retired 3 years earlier. Anyway, his connection with A. Rodgers was magic, and we can be thankful for that.

Hey! There's no reason to bring Jeff Query into this discussion. Please, can we all let Jordy have his moment? Kumerow would want it that way.

All those great years but only one pro bowl, I know it’s hard to pick from all the outstanding receivers each year but 1250+ yards with at least 13 tds should get you in every time. Should have been 3x pro bowler

Putting his play aside, just a quality human being. Much respect for Jordy Nelson.

Jordy is one of the Packers all time great receivers and my personal all time favorite. That is saying a lot because I have been a life-long Packers fan and have watched all the great one dating back to Billy Howton to our current players.

Gotta love a farm boy who made it big through his hard work ethic. My family thought so much of him we named our dog, who of course we love, after him.

Great player. Even better human. I did notice he didn't actually sign a 1 day contract to retire as a Packer officially. That could mean a bunch of things - That GB in training camp didn't want to make room on the 90 person roster. Or that he would not rule out playing again. Or..(more likely) he didn't want to go through the indignity that just happened to Steven Jackson in STL.
