Jolly In Line To Become Free Agent

According to Eric Armstead, an associate of Johnny Jolly's agent Brian Overstreet, Jolly is slated to become a free agent at season's end:

“At the end of the season, he will ultimately become a free agent or a restricted free agent, depending on what happens with the collective bargaining agreement,” said Eric Armstead.

Well I'm not convinced that Jolly would be worth bringing back for two reasons.
1)The amount of time away from football for a man his size is not the same as Starks situation.
2)The risk of believing he is "clean" and the higher probability of him re-using the "Purple Drank" or any other "street craze" warrants a pass for me.

Still,I would want to see some verifiable proof of what, where and who has been occupying his time,if in TTs' place.

I think MM is on purple drank.

Huh...I'm confused. I've consistently heard that his contract is frozen during the suspension, so the Packers own him after this season and his current contract would be in place starting next year. Perhaps currently suspended players will be addressed in the new CBA which is why he'd be a free agent in some capacity.

I'm not convinced the Packers move on without him.

I've heard the same thing...Brian?

Brian spoke directly to his reps who flatly stated that he is set to be a free agent. The CBA will come into play in that the Packers may or may not have a tag they can place on Jolly. But he is currently a suspended member of the Green Bay Packers, his contract is not 'frozen' - and yes, I had heard/thought the same thing.

Thanks for the clarification, Aaron.

My guess, he signed his one yr. tender, which freezes during a suspension right?
He's got talent, wonder where his head's at and his physical situation?

It does not freeze during the suspension.

Thanks for the update.

I think we all know his chances of coming back are remote. In the Packers press release after Jolly was suspended, Green Bay wished Jolly good luck in his future endevours. I interpret that as, thanks for the memories and good luck playing somewhere else.I can see GB bringing him in if he's out of work well into the season and they are having depth issues on the DL.

You would think some other team would give him a shot given the year he had in 2009. Steelers are one that comes to mind.

Queens and Kittys always pick up our retreads.

Can you do me a Favre?'s picture

If we could get a compensatory 3rd-4th rounder for him that would be worth it. Id rather give guys a shot that didn't throw it all away on 'Drank'. Id' rather have Bustin give it another go.

Jolly best play making lineman last year,Harrel injury prone ,Neal hurt out first year, anotherHarrel?Jenkins breakin down this year,Pickett hurt 50% of the year, yup we really have the luxury of passing up a true playmaker

POOCH's picture

I think you guys are all dipping in the purple drank,if anything this year proves you cannot have enough lineman/backups
