Jared Abbrederis: 2015 Packers Player Report Card

Jared Abbrederis

  • Age: 25
  • Ht./Wt: 6'1", 195lbs
  • College: Wisconsin
  • NFL Experience: 2 years

Career stats and more

Expectations coming into the season:  He might've been the biggest wild card entering the season. He tore his anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in practice last season and missed the entire year. So, everyone wasn't sure how healthy he'd be or if he'd still have his burst in and out of his routes.

Player’s highlights/low-lights: Abbrederis only played in nine games this year and saw his first NFL catch in Week 10. But his best game of the season was the final one. He was targeted 12 times and caught four passes for 55 yards.

Level of Expectations met:  Seeing as how the expectations were pretty tepid for Abbrederis entering the season, his excellent route running complemented his ability to take a hit.

Grade: C

Player’s contributions to team success:  Nine catches for 111 yards is pedestrian receiving line for a season and maintained a 26 yard average on only two kickoff returns.

Grade: C-

Player’s contributions in the playoffs:  Abbrederis had six catches for 69 yards in two games. Thanks to injuries to Ty Montgomery and Randall Cobb, Abbrederis was able to show that he can produce out of the slot.

Grade: C+

Intangibles/misc: He runs the best routes on the team, and that's how he's been able to make up for his physical deficiencies. However, the clock is ticking on how more hits his body will be able to absorb. After suffering "three or four" concussions during his career at Wisconsin combined with his upright running style and you've got a toxic cocktail forming. Still, he can be a useful No. 4 receiver.

Grade: C-

Overall Grade:  C

Love to see Abby opposite Cobb in the slot next year on four wide or in bunch formations. Think he could excel in the short passing game if given this opportunity.

I'm with you. ESPECIALLY if we don't pick up a start worthy TE.

I would love to see that. Throw Montgomery in the backfield and you have an exciting offense to watch.

I hope that he lasts long enough for us to see him play more regularly and have a chance to evaluate him. Abby looks like he can contribute if he can stay healthy. Thanks, Since '61

I agree with the tone of the analysis and the grades in general, though I think the grades are a touch generous. I think a line just mentioning the stubbornness of the coaches in failing to give Abby more snaps earlier in the season might have been appropriate.

I can see Cobb and Abby in the slot together, Point Packer & Drealyn, but it seems more likely to be Cobb and Montgomery. I think Abby has to be able to play outside, and I think he can. Maybe Cobb and Abby in the slot, and Monty in the backfield some.

Montgomery and Janis both seem ahead of Abby as KR. Hyde and Monty seem ahead of Abby as PRs.

Abby played in 10 games, but got only 19 ST snaps. He doesn't seem like a ST ace.

I think Abby has to show that he can play outside as well as inside - otherwise he is really on the bubble.

I don't think he's on the bubble. The QB likes him and his Ace is route running. He doesnt have questionable hands plus he understands zones. That alone puts him near Ty (who should be WR #4, if Adams gets it together). After the inconsistency that group displayed this past season no way TT goes into next season with no more than 5 WR. If anyone's on the bubble it's Janis. I'm betting on 6 WRs on the final roster next season though.

One of the biggest things that bothered me with the coaches this season is when McCarthy came out and said Abbrederis was ready to play 4 weeks ago.

So when the offense was sputtering and couldn't get going, and Adams was struggling, why did it take 4 games for Abbrederis to see the field?

The other thing that bothered me was against Arizona the first time, Abbrederis had a dropped ball fairly early in the game. And essentially was benched. Yet Adams had a lot of drops, and was struggling bad, continued to play.

Abbrederis showed what he can do against Arizona in the playoffs. He has really good ability to get open. His route running is terrific, and he has the ability to get some yards after the catch.

I am looking forward to seeing him play with a full complement of WR's. The 4-5 WR sets should be much improved next year.

I have bad news for all the Abby fans here he won't make the roster next year. Janis is better on special teams and has better potential in the offense his route running is poor but one off-season with Jordy should change that. Ty Montgomery will be slot opposite Cobb with Adam's going slot and outside. Jones will make team because arod said so/offensive knowledge and leadership. Jordy, jones, janis, adams, cobb,Montgomery

"... his route running is poor but one off-season with Jordy should change that. "

He's already had 2 off-seasons with Jordy...

If Dropvante Adams makes this team next year, somebody is screwing up or has been blackmailed.

His problem going forward is health. He had a ton of concussions at Wisc thus, most everyone passed him by as being unrealiable and iffy.
Ted took him and he is an iffy and always will be. The guy just isn't built to take a pounding.
