Is Tauscher Slipping?

It's only been two games, but the play of Mark Tauscher should not be ignored.

Put plainly - he isn't playing very well.

Going up against journeymen Ray Edwards and Jared DeVries, Tauscher has allowed a shocking amount of pressure off the right side, getting beat several times by both Edwards and DeVries on speed rushes where the defensive ends simply dipped their shoulder and flew under and past Tauscher. It wouldn't be so alarming if Tauscher had shown a weakness in this part of the game before now, but on the contrary, he has been an almost textbook case year in and year out for offensive linemen on how to set out of your stance at the snap of the ball and use leverage and angles to carry these types of rushes harmlessly past the quarterback. But now, for two weeks in a row, we've seen him beaten, and beaten badly.

This all wouldn't be so troubling if Dallas wasn't coming to town with their 3-4 pressure defense and the speedy pass rushing linebackers they love to send after the quarterback. If Tauscher is having trouble with the likes of Edwards and DeVries, hide the women and children when Ellis and Ware come to town...

I'm concerned about both Tauscher and Clifton. # 99 on Detroit made Clifton look bad repeatedly on Sunday.
But remember, Tauscher started out slowly last season as well. Specifically, he looked terrible in that first game against Philly. So hopefully, he'll round into form.
Anyhow, that's why they draft Breno, I think-- a long term replacement.
