Hornung, Davis Own Titletown Five, Possible Kentucky Derby Horse
Two Pro Football Hall of Famers from the Vince Lombardi era in Green Bay are part owners of Titletown Five, a Kentucky Derby hopeful attempting to qualify for the premiere horse racing event in May.
Former running back Paul Hornung and defensive end Willie Davis are part owners along with Packers executive committee member Ed Martin and Hall of Fame horse trainer D. Wayne Lukas.
Hornung is a native of Louisville, Ky. and is a friend of Lukas.
“It’s a lifelong dream of Hornung’s to run in the Derby and if I can get him and his friends there, I’m going to do everything I can to do that,” Lukas told the Daily Racing Form. “I realize that we’re pumping uphill here. I want to manage him as best I can under the tight conditions.”
Titletown Five still has a long road ahead of him to even qualify for the Kentucky Derby. He'll be making his first start of 2013 this Saturday in the Gazebo at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Ark.
