The fact that we carried Barnett for 3 weeks when he should have been on IR while also carrying a punter who needed replaced is basically inexcusable IMO. At the very least we should have picked the best possible replacement we could find and signed him to the roster so he could practice under the coaches direction (although the benefit of that is questionable). Then we might have been able to can his ass and have a replacement on the roster too.

How about we just never punt for the rest of the season. It couldn't be much worse than having Frost punting could it?

Had the same thought PRC. Maybe McCarthy has read this: http://www.econ.berkeley.edu/users/dromer/papers/PAPER_NFL_JULY05_FORWEB...

I wonder.. is he able to collect unemployment too now? It could be argued that he technically never showed up for work...

Is Matt Flynn going to punt too?

packeraaron, isn't common sense enough to coach? Are those math formulas actually used during a football game?

AR - That's just a famous study done a few years ago about how football coaches are too conservative on 4th down. John Gruden had some choice words for the authors, if I remember correctly. One coach was an admitted admirer however - Bill Belichick.

great - a decision obvious to anyone by week 6 - was made in week 13 of a 5-7 season. Awesome.

dusty - Was thinking the same thing. It's shocking how long it took Thompson to make this move...

I'm thinking this was kind of a BS decision that is nothing but window dressing.
Frost should have and could have punted better, but from everything I've read the real issue is with Stock.
The Packers still can't stop the run, run the ball consistently, put pressure on the QB and cover kick offs worth a darn.
So they released the punter, big deal.

What was wrong with Frost?

First, you're a hoot PackOne (and the rap is still in my head).
Then, here's how I'd play this to the defense if I'm MM...you say to the defense privately you knew Frost was a problem and you did everything you could to get rid of him because you were tired of your boys on defense being constantly put under the gun by this idiot punter. You use this to create emotion. Kampman said after the game that "you are who you are after 11 or 12 weeks." If that is true, then new schemes won't be all that effective and not so easy to draw up with all the injuries. But emotion CAN work, at least for a few weeks. MM needs a prayer at this point. You've been given a gift in more ways than one MM - now use it to your advantage with the team's morale

The blood letting begins. If two weeks ago MM heard what the reporters were saying. Why did it take another week to act. Another bad example of clock management.
