Gut Reactions: Week 16

Aaron's gut reactions from the Packers win over the Titans.

 • Man, that felt good.
 • Aaron Rodgers' throw to Randall Cobb while rolling out for a touchdown was just inhuman.
 • EDS sure seems to make a difference in the running game. Of course, it's hard to make any kind of determination against what was an absolutely terrible Titans team that clearly wanted nothing to do with playing this game.
 • I know people love to hate on Finley - but he was great today.
 • As was Mike Neal, another guy fans love to abuse.
 • Happy to see Ryan Grant making multiple Lambeau Leaps.
 • Don't count on Woodson taking back his job as the blitzing slot corner. That is Hayward's job now - and he ain't giving it back.
 • Speaking of corners, Shields showed some ability blitzing off the edge as well. Nice little wrinkle to use later on.
 • Of course, when Dom faces a more experienced quarterback, he'll just rush four and play vanilla coverage. (sigh)
 • Randall Cobb better not be seriously injured. Or I'll start throwing things...
 • Did anyone notice that AJ Hawk had a really good game today?
 • Glad to see Moses get the start over Walden. Think he's the better player at this point.
 • Hey look! Graham Harrell successfully executed a handoff - and it went for a touchdown!
 • I love this football team.
 • I'm pretty sure every Packers receiver was going back to the huddle and telling Rodgers "Hey, I can beat my guy."
 • Gotta cheer for the Seahawks tonight.
 • Regardless of that outcome, going to be a tough game in Minnesota next week.
 • Did I already say I love this team? I love this team.

With Williams, Shields, Haywood, and House, Woodson will not see corner again. Neal is a player. Hawk was really impressive.

you must just watch the Packers.

and even if you do... you must have missed the absolute beat-downs both of those teams handed the Pack.

there are 3 teams in the NFL that the Packers have zero chance of beating.

just so happens that 2 of them reside in the NFC.

Um... after last week, after your epic fail of a prediction, you still put the Bears on the list? Seriously? Look Steak, the Bears are not making the playoffs. The Giants may very well miss the playoffs. The Vikings may very well miss the playoffs. And why is the #1 seed in the NFC not on your list, but a Bears team that is beaten, broken and dejected on the list? You might just be the one person on this site who knows less about football than I do.

I don't know if I agree with that - seeing as Burnett (I think) came streaking across the field to lay a big hit on the WR before he had a chance to score.

There are three players the Packers can't lose - 12,18 & 52. Think we may have dodged a bullet with 18, although if Seattle wins tonight, we'll need him next week, in what would be a big game. Doubt if they'll play him next week, which will make it harder. Still think they'll win though.

C'mon dude... We need the 2 if we can get it. 33.3% less chance to lose in the playoffs.

I don't think the bye hurts, I think it's when you're resting starters week 16 or 17... Coupled with a bye that you have cohesion issues.

I know, I know...and they'd also have home field in the divisional round.

But, from last year's Giants to the 2010 Packers, the '08 Cardinals, '07 Giants etc...the whole "getting hot at the right time and keeping the momentum rolling" thing seems to be working out well.

But come what may. I like this team's chances no matter the path they have to take.

Don't forget the biggest derailment for the 2011 Packers..

It wasn't the bye, or resting the starters. IMO. It was the Packers did not cope well with the turmoil surrounding the loss of Joe Philbin's son.

It absolutely hit that team like a freight train, and it clearly affected them in a way they were not equipped to bounce back from.

The Packers might be tighter knit than most other teams in some respects, and unfortunately, that loss I believe was harder on them due to that family like atmosphere.

Packers are going to absolutely humble the Vikings next week.

It's not often I'm this reckless, but the Packers are going to bitch slap the living grace out of those purple schmucks.

Yes, neither clinching the #2 seed nor hurting the Vikings' playoff chances matter one little bit.

Clearly. This is why he kept Rodgers on the field calling passes so late in a clear blowout.

I agree, there's no way this is a week-by-week league, as is evidenced by how San Fran is killing Seattle, the Giants whipped a bad Ravens team, New England killed Jacksonville, the Super Texans whipped a one-dimensional Vikings team and the always dependable Steelers destroyed the playoff hopes of the worthless Bengals.

Clearly, this is not a week to week league. nimrod.....

exactly.

so this win against a garbage team really doesn't mean jack.

they still don't match up well against teams that have a solid pass rush.

pressure with 4 = Packers loss.

WOOSH.....that went right over your head, huh?

The league is about matchups and personnel. Teams evolve or they disolve. Which have the Packers done through adversity?

Also, link to the comments here where everybody suddenly says the Packers are Super Bowl bound? You still don't know what a strawman argument is after all these years, do you?

i 100% grasp your post.

it's about match ups.

the packers do not match up with the Giants or 49'ers.
it also looks like they might not match up with the Seahawks the way that team is playing right now.

"Also, link to the comments here where everybody suddenly says the Packers are Super Bowl bound?"

did you not see all of the quotes i gathered from this thread? each one of them was inferring that today's game was a sign that the Packers are going to make a "deep run" in the playoffs.

This is going to be the last time I acknowledge your existence, but before I take the plunge I want to make sure and highlight just a couple of your recent "predictions". A short greatest hits of sort:

"49ers by 14+"

"qb won’t matter. - 49?ers can win without throwing more than 12 passes."

"take a look at the Packers’ offensive line for this weekend. and then go ahead and tell me that the Titans have little chance."

Why don't they "match up" with the 49ers? They -narrowly- lost to San Fran this year..

For the record, my comment about the Packers being ready to rip up the playoffs was, in context, the message I believe Mike McCarthy is trying to put out there to the league AND his players.

I think we all know the Titans are not a good team. What I took away from the Packers win was this:

It was a dominant, step-on-the-oppenent's-neck win, the type this team has never really been known for, especially against inferior competition. MM was showing that he's ready to put his foot on the gas, and the players were showing focus and commitment to a singular goal for 60 minutes.

Titans defense is not a bad D. We still flexed the run game and EDS showed promise at center and we saw immediate return on the line up change in the ground game.

Casey Hayward can do just about everything that Charles Woodson can do from the slot- and He's a rookie. Dom now knows he can use Casey in run support and pass rush from the slot with confidence.

Mason got a much needed confidence boost.

All three phases were firing on all cylinders.

I could go on. Ultimately, I am happy with the win because of what the PACKERS did, not who the OPPONENT was. For me, the biggest thing is Mike McCarthy had his team ready to not only play, but dominate, the opponent for 60 minutes, and play calling (particularly in the run game) was varied and sound all day. We're getting healthy, the run game is clicking, the defense has been steadily growing all season. There's not a team in the NFC I think the Packers don't at least have a fair shot against, and McCarthy has this team entering the final week of the season with an undeniable swagger.

I'm feeling good about what the Packers are going to do to Minnesota. This team is in a play-off mind state.

BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT THE TITANS! the 49'ers dominated that game from start to finish... there was no "narrowly" about it.

SF is just too strong in the trenches. their ol is far superior to the Packers' dl. their dl is far superior to the Packers' ol.... that's all there is to it. it's that simple.

Well done my friend - it is interesting that if Minn beats us next week, we have to play them the following week at home - another one of those rare scenarios like we had against Arizona 09 and Detroit 93?

Pack dont matchup well against 9ers? They only beat us once in the last how many years? This team has balance. Which is making teams play the run and opening up the passing game. If Pack had beat Titans the way they beat Jags u would be saying OMG PACK SUCK! Barely beat a terrible team again.
