Gut Reactions: Packers embarrass Vikings

Aaron's gut reactions from the Packers victory over the Vikings.

  • I think Za'Darius got me pregnant tonight.
  • "Winning ugly all the way to the Super Bowl" sounds about right.
  • Rodgers was noticeably off tonight. Uncharacteristically inaccurate.
  • The Packers best offensive players taking turns turning the ball over was not how I expected to kick off Christmas week
  • Dean Lowry won't be talked about a lot but he had a really solid game.
  • Jamaal Williams was a battering ram all night. Running angry.
  • Allen Lazard becoming Mr. 3rd Down right before our eyes.
  • I don't want to hear any more crap about Kevin King. The guy is a good football player. Period.
  • Kenny Clark is just a master of disaster.
  • Hell of a block by MVS on that long Aaron Jones TD run.
  • Jake Kumerow wasn't involved in the passing game tonight, but he was bringing the wood in the run game.
  • Kyler Fackrell had a strong game.
  • The Vikings finished with seven first downs. Fewest first downs for the franchise since 1971. Hell of a job by Mike Pettine and crew.
  • Yes, the Packers identity is winning ugly.
  • NFC NORTH CHAMPS BABY!
  • I love this team.
  • Go Pack Go.

Great push by Lancaster at the nose let Kenny Clark play the three tech and ZA coming from the middle LB... Nice to get all the pass rushers on the field. Gary did well. Lowry with solid DE basics with his arms UP and swatting Cousins ball down in their first series. Good Fundamentals from the D backs. Tough fight between Jaire and Diggs. Thielen still hurting. Dominant, playoff style defense.

Un-freaking-believable...

Never would've predicted a game script like what we saw tonight.

Hard place to win...and not just win, but dominate enough that those 3 first-half TOs really didn't matter.

Here's to 6-0 in division?

I hope you're not putting the cart before the horse with 6-0 in the division. It's still the NFL and any given Sunday.

The situation kind of reminds me a little bit of the Miracle on Ice. Of course the big win was beating the Soviets. But they still had to beat Finland in their next game or it was all for nothing. It's not quite the same, since we're still talking regular season. The only thing at stake is positioning for the playoffs. But they finally have a team built to win in January in Lambeau---one that doesn't depend on magic from their QB that can be hurt by the conditions. So having the games guaranteed to be in Lambeau would be big.

It was a beautiful game watching the Packers offense stay with a mixed approach that moved the chains -- even through the adversity of many mistakes in the first half.

1st, Congratulations Packers!
2nd, If our offense ever starts to click like our D did tonight, and our D keeps getting better, watch out NFL.
3rd, On a more cautionary note, MN was without their top two RBs which made them one dimensional offensively. Don't expect them to be so easy if we have to play them again in the playoffs.
4th, What can you say, we just won the NFC North. Merry Christmas all.

That game was a thing of beauty. It was playoff football and the Packers won it like you have to be able to win in the playoffs.

Z was an absolute monster. But he surely wasn't the only guy on that side of the ball that played well. 139 yards of offense from Minnesota was as dominant a defensive performance in a big game against a good offense as the Packers have put up in a long time.

In my wildest dreams, I never believed the Packers could be 12-3 and division champs with Aaron Rodgers playing like a mere mortal. And that might be giving Rodgers too much credit. He was downright bad , IMO.

One more win and they lock up a bye. And with a little help, the NFC road to the SB could run through GB.

Thing is, Rodgers stayed patient through a long, frustrating start and finished fantastically. He resisted the hero ball and stuck with disciplined patience that paid off huge.
Now we can indulge in imagining Rodgers running this new offense when he's at the top of his game, as early as the coming playoffs.
Well done, Packers QB!!!

Why does everyone want to jump on Aaron Rodgers every chance they can ?? Aaron Rodgers hasn't been the top QB in the league this year I get it, BUT..... he has done more with less this year in the passing game than at any time in his career. Yes he's missed some open receivers, but alot of those misses are from some of these bonehead receivers not being where their supposed to be, not getting open, dealing with the pass rush, or guys simply dropping balls. Jez, he's got 1 WR , no TE, and 2 underachievers in MVS and GMO. It is nice to see Lazard stepping up though . Even with AR not being his normal self, I'll still take him over the other 26-28 QBs that are starting out there. Don't want Aaron Rodgers behind center in Green Bay ???? What you gonna have then ??? Appreciate what we have, QBs like him don't come along often.

"Why does everyone want to jump on Aaron Rodgers every chance they can ?? "

There are two reasons so simple it defies belief that anyone can miss them and extends into "I don't want to understand" territory.

1) Because he makes over $30 mil/yr. He's paid like a star and he needs to play like one. When he doesn't it is worthy of discussion.
2) He's the QB. Like a goalie in hockey or a pitcher in baseball, the QB has outsized control on a game's outcome.

You are welcome to disagree with either of those points of view. But if you cannot understand why people hold either point of view, it says more about you than them.

Hank, really ...... a QB has to rely on 10 other guys doing THEIR job on every play in order to do his !! A pitcher faces one batter himself, a goalie protects the goal himself. Would you rather not have Aaron Rodgers as our QB, Hank ???? Yes it is my opinion and you are entitled to yours, and my opinion is that your a FOOL, plain and simple. Merry Christmas.

It would have been hard to forecast the Smith Brothers combining for 25.5 of GB's 40 sacks to date (but doable), and almost impossible to forecast their 40 tackles for loss out of 70 by the team. Preston's previous career high was 10 TFL. ZaDarius' previous career high was also 10 TFL.

That was surprisingly easy--it would have been a blowout if not for all the first half turnovers. Even without Cook, the Vikings offense was totally flaccid the entire night.

Tip of the cap to Fackrell for causing that holding call that nullified a touchdown; with that missed XP, things could have gotten more dramatic than they needed to be.

How is it that neither ZDS, K. Clark, or A. Jones made the Pro Bowl? Talk about no respect!

Stay focused and wipe the Lions out to keep one of those top two seeds--it'll make life a whole lot easier.

If not for the turnovers our defense would have shutout the Vikings tonight. They were dominant all night.
Our OL also played a very strong game as evidenced by the Packers running for 180+ yards.

ZaDarius Smith absolutely wrecked the game for Vikings offense tonight. I don't think that we have seen a performance like that since Reggie White played for the Packers.

On offense I posted before the game that the Packers needed to get the ball to Adams and Jones tonight and they did and it worked big.

NFC North Champions, Congratulations to MLF, the Packers and all Packer fans especially our CHTV bloggers. Now go get the #1 seed.

And glad for Kevin King and Aaron Jones, Bulaga too, 3 players that some fans were so emphatic were injury proned, made of glass, and no bell-cow. Take that game; and shut de hell up these shat conclusions about players, trying to get their careers going after frustrating injuries. Next time, cheer em up if they down with injuries, and fighting like hell to get back on the field.

Watching Z Smith and Kenny Clark devour people was just amazing, I nearly felt sorry for Bradberry, but not really. The Packers defensive front won this game, they were dominant. They kept the Packers in it when the offense was throwing up all over themselves, they also forced bad throws and helped force the pick. Gimme baby hands Brees up in Lambeau in cold weather and we will be in the NFCCG.....

Packers D has been dominant all month nobody scoring over 15 points! Also no more talk about KK the guy is a very good number 2, plays the ball extremely well, has given up less TDs than Jaire, he also did what Jaire should have done on that missed pick in the first Vikings game it was pretty much the exact same play they just switched places. My goodness Big Z was a terror tonight him and King dominated. Like I said I was pretty comfortable with Cousins in a big game make him play from behind and he will fold.

Random thoughts. A master class by Pettine. The Packers stomped both the Viking O and D line, impressive. Rodgers was off, but stayed with the game plan, did not force the action (expect with Adams early in first. Lucky didn't bite the team.) Crosby and Scott, won the battle of field position. MLF. That young man can coach.... Believe in the run. Run to daylight. Run to victory..... Total Team Effort. Packers No.2 seed, one is within the grasp. What a game.... I Need A (Root) Beer.....

5. Vikes worse offensive game since 1971. I mean they were awful. 7 first downs the entire game.
Now if they can just beat those mighty Lions next week.
PS Congrats to coach LeFleur for being first new coach to win a div in his first season and get 12 wins.

Know I’m showing my age saying this but — I remember that game in 1971. Packers completely outplayed the Vikes and lost on a Freddie Cox FG, 3-0.

And THAT’s why I’ve always hated Minnesota.

This game provides more sweet redemption...

One comment many pack fans will agree with. Sure shows what happens when you spend a little money in free agency. Ted T saddled this team with mediocrity by never getting outside help but saving money big time. Ya hate to think how many super bowls this team missed on when Rodgers was better and they lacked that one or two players to get over the hump?

All true - but no point crying over spilt milk. Gutekunst is doing things his way, and it's working. Revel in the moment!

When the Yikes only got ten points off of those TO’s I knew the game was for the taking.

Best game of the year heading into the playoffs. With HFA, this team can make some noise...

'The Vikings finished with seven first downs. Fewest first downs for the franchise since 1971. Hell of a job by Mike Pettine and crew"

Amazing ,and on top of that! a season sweep and finally beating them at that monstrosity of a stadium!

Made up for a lot of things.

From one of the naysayers - D played a full game but let's face it - Vikings weren't healthy. But playing like that with 3 takeaways by the Vikings and to keep your team in it - just a great job all around. Vikings weren't playing for as much as the Packers were but I don't think they wanted to look this bad!

And as far as the offense goes, let's face that too. I no longer expect that AR will pull out a win. Some bad throws tonight - under and behind and a 68.3 passer rating. But after missing all the 10+ yard throws (that the announcers couldn't stop saying), he stopped trying and took what was there in the 2nd half. That's a significant improvement.

So now we have a likely #2 seed. Pretty unbelievable. This is mostly due to Zadarius and his supporting cast. If we had these guys a 5 years ago, we would have won 3 straight Superbowls! Thank you TT for keeping us just out of SB range.

Congrats to MLF and Pettine and the players. I hope AR can get back to some of his old self. Then we might actually have a decent shot at winning it all. That would rival the unbelievable 2010 champs as a team of destiny.

No way Seattle loses OR Pack loses. It'll come down to tiebreaker for #1 seed w New Orleans.

You actually think SEA “can’t lose” to SF?! Based on what? I would argue that SF will be heavily favored in that game, as they should be IMO

Game was ugly at times, offense struggled at times, D was dominant as hell and ended being a great win! With 3 turnovers from us who would have thought a win could happen and being such a dominant one is really quite amazing! Would be great to get all the way to Super Bowl when team has been in reality by many really over looked! Keep it going guys! Merry Christmas all of team and fans!

Where are all of those Viking supporting sports media now? Saying all year the Vikings are going to win the NFC North, Love this team! Packers aren't done yet! These Packers are a damn good football team! LaFleur started a new trend 1-0 at Minnesota. Swept Bears and Vikings and Lions soon IN HIS FIRST SEASON! They will only get better! Gutekunst, Murphy, LaFleur and Pettine, awesome job!

Wow! Wow! Wow! After last year, are you kidding me?!! Division champs, #1 or #2 seed possible, Vikings vanquished (Vikings haven’t beaten a winning team all season), Bears vanquished, can finish 6-0 in the division next week, and who knows? The sky is the limit. Wow, what a difference a year makes. Go Pack Go!!!

Fantastic win! Beating the Vikes in their own stadium makes it even sweeter! Proud of this team from top to bottom. The boys are now at the point that they get it for the most part on offense now. They get better every week. I hope this continues. Rather be hot at the end of the season into the playoffs then early. Great to see a Packer team that can run the ball and have a defense that is putting fear into its opponents QBs. Pressure on the QB's is something I have been waiting to see for a long time. The organization held on to TT and MM for to long, and the results hurt a lot. Now Gute can work on getting another receiver or two to help the offense become more of a threat.

“The Packers are winning ugly”
The key words here are “The Packers are winning”

You could also say it like “The Packers’ opponents are losing ugly”

We are light years from where I thought we’d be under a rookie head coach. I’m gonna enjoy it. And hope we only go up from here next season.

Nothing uncharacteristic about Rodgers' accuracy in this game compared to the rest of 2019. Seriously, it is a rarity to see him hit a WR in stride.

Great win! This defense may give up yards, but they are the factor most responsible for a 12-3 Record in 2019. They have kept us in games all year long.
