Gut Reactions: Packers roll over Vikings

Aaron gives his gut reactions to the Packers domination of the Minnesota Vikings

  • That's how you take care of business.
  • Absolutely loved the work up front from the offensive line tonight
  • Jordan Love looked like he was in complete command no matter what the Vikings tried to throw at him pressure-wise
  • Love getting the ball out his hand quickly to Kraft in the flat kept them ahead of the sticks early
  • Another masterclass from Aaron Jones
  • Preston Smith was on one tonight
  • Shout out to Valentine and Ballentine.
  • If Walker ever starts catching the balls that are thrown to him, he's going to lead the team in interceptions
  • That first touchdown throw to Reed down the seam...my god.
  • Speaking of Reed, congrats to him on breaking Sharpe's franchise record for most receptions by a rookie.
  • How depressing does it have to be a Vikings fan tonight? Not only watching that game but seeing how much better Love has gotten since the last time these two teams met?
  • The Packers will take on the Bears at 3:25 pm Lambeau Time next Sunday. Win and they're in the playoffs.
  • Think about where this team was back in October and then tell me Matt LaFleur hasn't done a hell of a job this season.
  • Happy New Year everyone.
  • Go Pack Go!

They were the more aggressive and physical team, for a change. Something lit a fire under the defense, wonderful blitz sack by Walker, where have those aggressive calls been?

What can you say about an NFL franchise that features a shirtless Kirk Cousins blowing a giant fake effing horn to start a nationally televised game? SKLOL

As the late great Bart Starr used to say, that was a good old-fashioned-fanny-kicking.

Anyone want to stomp their feet and scream for Sean Clifford to replace Love? That was the mighty defense of Brian Flores that Love picked apart tonight so you could see number 8 in mop-up duty against a demoralized and beaten home team.

This win made for the best New Years Eve. KOC looked ready to quit at halftime and so did most of his team.

Did you notice all the empty purple seats, surrounded by large pockets of smiling Packers’ fans. So good.

There’s nothing quite as satisfying as the sound of a horn not blowing.

Joe Barry still needs to be lovingly set free at the end of the season, but tonight he deserves to celebrate will all of us.

Happy New Year!

Very true CPF. It reminds me of the Lions last year. They're on a roll and they will be playing footloose and fancy free. There is nothing they would enjoy more than ruining our playoff hopes. The Packers better bring their A-game again. I think they will. GPG!!!!

The most enjoyable game of the year! Packers' offense could not be stopped, and the line was blocking and opening holes for all of the backs. Vikings had playoffs hopes as well but Green Bay wanted it more. Youngest team in the league and will only get better with more experience. Beat the Bears and see what happens.

Don't get it twisted LaFleur needs to go along with Barry. Yes we are a young team but it is simply inexcusable how inept LaFleur is and it won't get better. It's his identity good or bad.

Need to cleean house no more Jaire, Stokes, Bahktiari or Watson. Fkn thieves in the night. And if we do make the playoffs F all of them keep them inactive. They're only looking for that playoff check. Yes I know Bahktiari was never coming back.

Looks like you have it twisted, my friend. Has LaFluer been perfect? No, but he's done a damn good job with this young team and earned his spot. Wasn't the Rodgers group whole bitch was about loyalty? LaFluer showed it to Barry and now, fire him. You don't think Bahk doesn't want to be out there? Probably killing him because he worked so hard on rehab. For a season that was labeled a throwaway, see what you got, those young men see it as win next week and you get a ticket to the dance. It's all gravy

Where has that been the last few weeks?

Packers owned the trenches tonight. OL kept Love clean and made room for Jones.. Neither Hall nor Mullens ever really got a chance to get comfortable or on track, and there was no real running game on the part of the Vikes--frankly, the Vkings looked flat all night. Kudos to the Packers for pushing the ball up and down the field all night.

The death knell for the Vikes was the 4th down incompletion in the end zone, and the Packers turn around and put up points.

Game ball for Bo Melton. I'll admit to being someone who never gave him credit or a chance to play a major role, but he proved me wrong.

Jayden Reed is a gem. That catch and run TD? Awesome. Hopefully he's able to heal up for Sunday.

Enjoy it! Bears are playing well. It will be a battle next week.

Happy New Year, friends!

December 31, 2023 at 10:54 pm

In the first half, the Vikings had 3rd-and-16, and Barry only rushes three, and the Vikings gain 9 yards -- which allows a 54-yard field goal -- and this was very bad, in my book.
In the second half, Vikings get the ball right away, and are driving, but have a 3rd-and-14; however, this time Barry rushes four or five Packers, and the Vikings . . . well, sad to say, they gain 21 for a first down -- but this was very good, in my book.
Point being: Although the results won't always work out for the Packers defense, I'm glad for Barry to generally be more aggressive than passive -- because this will be best over the course of an entire game.
Also, never rush only three ;-).
***
It seems all of the players and coaches came through tonight.
As long as they're part of the Packers, I'm rooting for them to excel.
As long as the Packers are playing games, I'm rooting for them to win.
As long as there's a shot at making the playoffs, I'm rooting for them to play their way in.

My gut reaction is i'm 5 large richer tonight.

When i heard they were starting a 5th round rookie at QB, i woke up and decided to make one of my rare wagers without hesitation.
I heard if he didn't work out, they'd be replacing him with Nick Mullens.
Without Cousins, i think the team basically has given up, the defense didn't look like they even wanted to be there.

Nice clean win for the Packers, i'll have something to say about the forced fumble by Preston and see if anyone else noticed the same thing.

But for now...HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Now i wish i recorded it, i want another look.

My impression initially was that after the strip fumble, Smith looked over his shoulder at the loose ball, and started walking away from the ball as if the play was over, that he did his job.

Just my initial wtf first impression in live action.

But to be fair, right or wrong, i'm preconceived that he does that alot after making a play, he thinks he's done his job, and starts coasting.

I'm just not a Smith fan for what he gets paid. But it was a good turnover regardless

Big win by the Packers over the Vikings with Love and Jones playing impressively. It was a gift from the MN coach starting the rookie Hall at QB however and having their star TE Hockenson out on IR. The D played aggressive with the blitzes finally paying off. The Vikings offensive is really out of sync and it will be a lot tougher game at home against the Bears for sure. Be good if Alexander and Campbell can play. With the composure Love is showing they might pull out a win and make the playoffs. GPG!!

Just about the best defensive game all year. I am not knowledgeable enough to know why. Hope someone with knowledge can help. Still don't know who will show up next week.

Perhaps the Packers could adopt this as their new theme song:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7xMfIp-irg&ab_channel=TheBeatles-Topic

I was hoping to see growth from Love. And after a couple weeks where he looked like he was regressing, he is emerging as the team's next franchise QB. But this is only one year, and the next year or two will be the real test. But I'm becoming a believer. Unfortunately, the lyrics don't quite fit. So I won't Monkee around anymore.

This is what football looks like when a QB spreads the ball around to a better WR group and TE's. Tom did a great job against Hunter. It is hard to rate the team against one who is missing a starting QB. Our offense was executing against their defense and getting first downs often. It's good to see Melton get several catches. Kraft has an edge to him and that's great to see from a GB TE. Defense did their job as well. The only gaffe were the late punt wave off from Reed and the no catch from Toure along with the turnover and gifted points that came with it. Reed already had bad chest...Thinking that is a dumb call to have him return anyways until he's 100%. Great effort all the way around. Lots of YAC and guys running hard with the ball as RB's also.

I have crucified MLF all season but he had them ready to go and he called a hell of a game. That 4th down call was a HELL of a play call and design. Bad catch by Melton. Worse throw by Love on that one.

Speaking of MLF, Tom Clements and MLF have done a HELL of a job with Jordan Love.

I've crucified Barry all season too and I still want him gone at the end of the season, but his players played well all night. That was a good Minnesota O-Line they played against and they whooped them up front. For once, very aggressive, even with the lead.

What about Bo Melton? All I know is Christian Watson better get his body right this offseason and get ready to GO next year. There's just too many good WRs on this roster right now. I would say a speedy WR is still needed on this roster but ONLY because Watson can't stay healthy.

Speaking of good WRs Jaylyn Reed is a friggen STUD! I hope Reed and Wicks can BOTH play next weekend against the Bears who are actually playing really good themselves.

This team has SO MANY young players who are really performing at a high level right now, it's IMPOSSIBLE not to be excited about all the young talent Gutey has assembled on this roster.

Jesus Christ Cousins...Put on you shirt!!
