Gut Reactions: Packers lose to Eagles

Aaron's gut reactions from the loss to the Eagles.

  • I think Matt LaFleur just called another first down run.
  • Seriously, the insistence of running the ball against one of the best run defenses in the league, which also featured a banged up secondary that couldn't cover Davante Adams at all, was baffling.
  • I didn't think the Paclkers would miss Montravious Adams, but they miss Montravious Adams.
  • Marcedes Lewis has to make that block that ended up as a Rodgers fumble. Has to.
  • The NFL's officiatiing is such a mess. Between overreacting to things like the missed PI call in the NFC Championship Game and all the new refs, it's just a disaster.
  • That's the best Aaron Rodgers has played this season.
  • That TD throw to Jimmy Graham was... *chefs kiss*
  • What a sequence from Geronimo Allison at the end of the first half.
  • Special teams really hurt the Packers early in the game. Basically let the Eagles back into the game with short fields.
  • How Derek Barnett wasn't thrown out for that hit on Jamaal Williams I will never know.
  • That whole defense is very...Jim Schwartz.
  • Those four plays from the 1 yard line were, for lack of a better word, brutal.
  • Brutal bounce on that final INT
  • Team gets a much needed break before heading to Dallas.
  • All in all, I'll take 3-1.
  • Go Pack.

There was nothing wrong with that play call it was a bad decision by Rodgers, compounded by pass interference on MVS that led to that int. Rodgers had Jones wide open and I do mean wide open in the left flat around the one yard line. Jones could've crawled into the endzone. Instead Rodgers decided to stare down MVS on a slant that had to be threaded between 3 Eagle defenders.

Jones was no where near the 1 on that last play. He was open but he ran sideways along the 10. There was a GB WR in the endzone, couldn't tell who, and 2 defenders. He wasn't going to make it

Darius Sheperd... End of story!

That kind of slants you should never pass at the end f the game, mistake is very probable, you don't have a time for bounce back. Exhibition case - SB Seattle-Patriots end of the game interception by Buttler...

If Aaron waited 1 sec more (And Aaron had that time!) he would easily throw to Sheperd!

I ain't even mad. We deserved to lose. When you give up 34 at home and almost 200 yards rushing, you deserve to lose. I shudder to think what Zeke is going to do to our run "defense."

Zeke & that Oline will run for 300+.
And Amari Cooper will hit us with a deep one when we sell out.
Dak Prescott will also keep a couple for long gains.

We need 2 more interior linemen & ILBers.
97 & 50 can't do it all.

We knew this was going to be a wide open game. Rodgers was on fire. The redzone attack was a bit baffling on the first series inside. Needed a T.O. to set a play up. The second trip for the tie, MVS has to move his hands away from hoiis body and reach for the ball. He would make the catch or draw the flag. Just cannot give up momentum witha 6 yard return and the kick out of bounds. Lancaster getting moved all over and Lowry playing high--lower Pad Level.

There's a difference between not being able to get open and not being able to get targeted.

I grow tired of this myth that has circulated for the last 5 years.

There are open WRs on the field besides Nelson or Adams.. They just get bypassed frequently because the QB either A) doesn't 'trust' them, or B) would rather hold the ball and hope that one of his security blanket receivers comes free deep.

The play calling on the last 2 drives when GB had goal to goal, especially the one where the Eagles took over on the one was terrible.

I've said it before...lose Davante and Pack in trouble..

The Defense HAS to get better defending run or 3-2 is a real possibility next week in Dallas.

I still have NO IDEA what PI is...NO IDEA!!

You're not alone on not knowing what PI is. The guys who get paid a large amount of money to either call or not call PI, and have hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of equipment to view a play from every imaginable angle have no idea either. Seriously, why have the option to challenge it, you'll never have a more clear call that the one tonight. And yes, 3 and 2 is real easy to see after tonight. Zeke could go for 250

The PI problem is that the league doesn't know what PI is. So the refs don't want to call it, the review booth doesn't want to call it, and the league can just point to the ratings and say "all is well." Maybe Brady needs to tweet his disgust with the PI situation so it gets solved; worked like a charm with offensive holding.

Offense couldn't stay on the field, special teams gave great field position and defense had no answer for the double teams on Clark. Throw in a few questionable officiating calls ( Barnet"s hit on Williams and no PI on Allison) and you have an entire team loss!

Nonsense, Two plays by ST's giving the Eagles the ball near the 50 and beyond combined with a fumble by Rodgers deep in Packer territory, combined with two 1st and goals within the last 5 minutes that came away with ZERO points and an INT is what lost this game. The Special teams nor the offense did the defense any favors tonight. Although the defense was not great either.

After several close games in which things went just right, I guess a game where they didn’t was overdue. It’s less than two years since the Eagles won the Super Bowl, and this Packers team is a work in progress. Wish the result was different, but I’m not devastated by this loss. Just hate the mistakes that lead to it.

And Aaron, I said too, right after the Maddox injury: I effing hate that A-hole Jim Schwartz and his undisciplined, dirty defensive teams. Never glad a player gets injured, but I’m glad karma was a vindictive bitch tonight.

This one was lost in the trenches. Both of the Packers lines got killed in the run game. That has to stop if they want to be a great team.

Why does the NFL even have the ejection rule if they won't use it at all. It's not surprising to see a Jim Schwartz led Defense acting like a bunch of scum. I'm just glad the 2nd guy they took out on a stretcher because of their BS was one of theirs.

If we're going gut reactions:

(1) It doesn't look good for our clear best skill player. Davante may have a broken toe? I am nervous.
(2) The run defense is a serious issue minus Montravious. Lancaster has been used and abused and our beloved Keke is no match in the run game.
(3) That was a tough deflection on that last play that resulted in an INT. AND, it was a poor decision. Jones is wide open in the flat. Shepard is wide open headed to the corner of the endzone. It was A-Rod's worst decision of the evening at the most important juncture. Tragic. He had an otherwise masterful performance.
(4) Zero Pressure. At all. The entire evening.
(5) Jaire did not have a good game
(6) Kevin King had a better game
(7) Zero pressure at home vs. the Eagles does not bode well for a road game in Dallas. At all.
(8) At least Mason Crosby didn't utterly shank a fg?
(9) The curse of a 4-0 rookie HC lives on...

Back to Earth. That 3-0 run was fantastic. The Pack have an extremely difficult challenge in Dallas.

In the absence of Montravious Adams, Im willing to give my 70 dodge fury 3, paint it green, and stick a number on it. We got to find something to fill the gaping hole between the tackles.....Rodgers pitches for over 400 yards and we don't win....team had its chances. Two first downs inside the ten down the stretch with no points. Great effort by Adams, Graham, Rodgers, and Allison. Nice job by Kevin King as well, who continues to improve. Ah well, 3-1 isn't a bad place to be. Better get rested up for Dallas, they are a hell of a lot better than Philly. GO PACK!!

It was a tall task to ask the Packers to beat both Philly and Dallas back-to-back. If they get that win in Texas, this one's not going to hurt so bad. The offense is doing so much better, except in goal-to-go situations. The defense has some major flaws, but there's plenty of time to correct.

I wonder if Kenny Clark is fighting through a lower back sprain or something.

I've never seen him get washed out of so many plays before- many plays where he was moved 2 or more yards out of his gap by the OL- and he seemed to lack arm strength when reaching out to grab the RB as well.

edp1959,

Don't know what your problem is. I understand the game of football just fine, thank you very much.

Quick slant or not.. wide open WR in the back corner of the endzone. I wish the ball had gone there.. don't you?

I mean, the ball was thrown into traffic and got tipped up and intercepted. If the ball had been thrown the WR on the out in the back of the endzone- the route the defense completely dropped coverage on- at the very least there'd be no INT and we might have had another down to play.

Apparently, you disagree, and are content with the INT and the loss.

Seriously.. get the eff outta here with that shhhhhhhhhh.

Nobody notice that every single time we receive a punt, that the punting team has 1 or 2 or 3 guys there to annihilate our punt returner? There's never any space. Our gunners never ever block their guys well.

Also, Crosby started the game with a touchback but then he let Sanders have one....and we saw the result.
We're still a SOFT team (on offense too-4 passes from 1st & goal at the 1) & we need touchbacks not returns on us.

We weren’t going 16-0 no worries..but concerns

- Coach and the offense stuck with rage run a couple series to many. Sure need balance but that can’t trump winning. Let’s see if they learn from this.

- Run D in non-existent and in game adjustments???? wonder why not?

- And most telling of 1st down on the 1 and 4 and out

The Eagles punched the Packers in the face literally setting the tone right from the start. We looked like whipped dogs. A repeat of this will get us killdeer in Dallas.

They had me believing they had a defense this year. The run defense was exposed against Denver. This game simply showed that they have not played a decent QB/offense. Same **** different year. Defense is improved but it's not as good as the stats might indicate.

Even with the bad defense, the turnovers were the difference. Followed by bad special teams.

I'd say that this game showed that GB hadn't played a team with a good offensive line and some TEs who can both block and catch. Wentz only threw for 160 yards in a tight game. Cook/Mattison/Cousins isn't necessarily worse than Sanders/Howard/Wentz.

Perhaps Clark was hurting, as suggested above. Much harder to move chess pieces around if the D is straight-up being blown off the line.

I've been denying that GB's ST units are anything other than bad. Having an individual like the Punter play well doesn't mean that the coaching isn't horsesheet. Crosby is whatever you deem Crosby to be. I don't judge Mennenga on how Crosby does or even on how Scott does. The returns hurt and GB lost the field position battle.

Stats suggest that GB wins this game but for the turnovers and special teams.

My God - GB's run defense is f*cking HORRIBLE. Zeke is going to be unstoppable. Its going to be painful to watch.

MLF insisting on running into walls to "stay balanced" is going to cost me a TV by the end of the season. The pass game was firing on all cylinders - stick with it!!! Adams was on another level.

Jimmy Graham - go up with 2 damn hands. That 4th down play attempting a 1 handed catch wasn't necessary at all.

Allison - what a grab at the end of the 1st half. Didn't think he was going to hang on to that.

I would have challenged that last play for DPI. MVS was raped. Not like there was really anything to lose at that point anyway.

Hope J Will is ok. I like Aaron Jones but I hope Gute makes a move for Drake or better yet Gordon. The run game is non existent.

Agree on the DPI on MVS. The DB was on his back before the ball got there. Definitely affected his ability to make the catch.

Not sure if it's challengeable under 2min but it should be since the officials were only reviewing if it was a TO. Surprised no one on the GB sideline questioned that.

Take away Rodgers' 5 rushes and 2 WR trick plays, and the Packers handed the ball off to RBs 14 times tonight, and passed the ball 52 times.

73/27 pass-run ratio doesn't seem like a hard-headed coach stubbornly committing to the run game.

I would say that Aaron Jones was far too hesitant to turn it up field on the stretch plays. He actually looked a little timid in general tonight, but he fared far better on the inside zones than outside.

Dude...28 passes came on the final 3 drives needing to move the ball fast to catch up.

Running into the same wall over and over 3 out of 4 games now seems pretty hard headed to me. It's not working.

I wondered in the game thread (real time) why Graham didn't use two hands. Very catchable ball.

Can't challenge DPI in the last 2 minutes. Not LaFleur's fault.

Need some better blocking, not better running backs, unless it is Walter Payton. Gordon had sub 4.0 rush averages until his blocking got better. Hard to find road grading Offensive Linemen who can pass block at this point. That's the Eagles defensive line without Malik Jackson and Tim Jernigan.

Probably can find better blocking TEs. Graham whiffed a few times; Lewis whiffed big time on the AR fumble. Graham caught some balls, but also didn't catch some that were catchable. If he isn't getting receptions, he has no value.

Good point on the final 2 mins. I was rage typing - not thinking lol. But J Will might be out a while - word is he's in the hospital. A 1-2 punch of Jones/Gordon or Jones/Drake would be sexy. And if/when J Will comes back that would be a nice 3 headed monster.

TheGR,
I truly see little value in Graham and have been outspoken on this for past year. At 6'7" he could have used two hands to catch ball in back of end zone. Won't block and seemingly unable to catch. What value does he bring?

Until Tonyan is playing majority of TE pays this team will be limiting itself on offense.

Yo Jimmy you got two hands big dog.....use them you ain’t catching alley-oops is basketball no more. I’m not even disappointed because I saw this coming I just thought the offense wouldn’t do enough and the Eagles would squeak one out in the end. The Packers need to inquire about Kenyan Drake from the Dolphins and please find and adequate LB besides Martinez gah damn why haven’t we still been able to solidify this position? You can’t just fill the middle of your def with anybody despite what people try to make you believe it’s a very important position still.

Also I use to respect the Eagles but man were they dirty in this game looking just like Schwartz’s old Detroit Lions.

I think a lot of the defensive problems were that Z Smith was not 100% as he is the leader and the straw that stirs the drink. Let’s hope he is 100% for the Dallas game. That being said, I didn’t expect to go 16-0 and before the year began I would have gladly taken 3-1 at this point

I'm putting this loss on Aaron Rodgers and Coach LaFleur for not having anything near a good short game by this point of the season -- while, by contrast, the Eagles relied on the short game to get the win.
Coach LaFleur showed little, if any, creativity in designing short passes and runs, especially at the goal line. This offense seems as exasperating as last year in its hit-and-miss stupidity and plodding predictability.
My main concern, though, is with Rodgers trying to play hero ball.
A couple of examples as I remember them: First half, 3rd-and-two in the red zone, Rodgers tries for the difficult throw in the end zone instead of getting the first down; later, in the two-minute drill at the end of the first half, Rodgers goes with the big wind up to throw deep but gets stripped for a lost fumble.
Meanwhile, the Eagles showed that the short game is possible, and even potent, by carving up the Packers while going for the deep play rarely, if at all. In so doing, they avoided sacks and turnovers, and seemingly caused our defense exhaustion.
My concern is that Rodgers, possibly, just doesn't like the short game, and stubbornly refuses to implement it in unison with his coaches.
Instead of using imagination to spread the ball all over the field to a variety of receivers, Rodgers was apparently determined to go deep time and time and time again.
He also seemed to obsess over Davante Adams and Jimmy Graham, overdoing a good thing until it became a bad thing.
Maybe our new head coach is not the creative genius for whom I had hoped; maybe our superstar quarterback is a prima donna who insists on holding the ball for the spectacular when a more subtle and varied approach would ultimately be much more effective.
I could be way wrong, and hope I am. Please tell me how I'm wrong!
The Packers are hard to watch!

I think you're partly right.

Rodgers made some big plays doing that "hero ball" as u call it. I know what u mean.

That last play, the int, Shepherd crossed with MVS & he was way more open. But Rodgers doesn't trust him, didn't even consider him. He was going to MVS no matter what.
Y'all remember 2015 close loss at Carolina? Last play 4th & goal, we ran a similar cross to the right & Cobb was going to the outside & was uncovered! Another brilliant play design.
But 12 was only looking to the guy running the slant-in on that criss-cross & it was covered so Rodgers pumped & pumped & desperation heaved it to Thomas Davis for the int.
That's the famous meme/gif where Rodgers is shown the clipboard on the bench after & he tosses it when he sees Cobb was wide open.

He has to read better & not be like Favre & predetermine who he's going to.
Favre's last pass for us was that, the int to Driver, his trusty reliable veteran. Jennings the 2nd year guy was wide open.....

Thanks much for your good thoughts, EddieLeeIvory.
Rodgers is in danger of degenerating into what Favre largely became in the latter half of his career: a great talent who does make the spectacular play often enough to fill the highlight package and the stat sheet -- but ultimately fails to win the game.
At least that's my strong impression, which may be misguided. I'm rooting for Rodgers, but do wonder if he is intimidating our new coach.

Watch it again. Sheppard isn't actually "open" until the ball is already thrown and the defenders are crashing on MVS. He doesn't even look back till right as the ball is intercepted. Jones is open in the flat but he just runs along the 10. Not much chance he would have got in.

http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/0ap3000001059318/Nigel-Bra...

Kind of ironic that AR is catching flak for throwing a quick pass like that - if only he would have held it a second or 2 longer...

Bad read though. Bad bad bad read. Give it another second or 2 to develop or just throw it out of the endzone and try again. Piss poor effort by Graham and Allison on that play too.

I watched the game but didn't enjoy it.
Rodgers dazzled us with some big passes (although some of them did require difficult catches) -- yet somehow the Eagles kept in the lead.
Again and again, it seemed we should be winning when we were actually losing.

You must have missed all the check downs and throws over the middle tonight. Also, that strip wasn't on AR - Lewis missed his block and missed it BAD. Why aren't you complaining about the TDs to Allison or Graham? AR extended the play on both. 9 different players caught a pass tonight. 7 players had at least 2 catches. 5 had 3 or more. I'd call that spreading the ball around. How about AR pulling the ball down and picking up crucial 1st downs with his legs?

Davante was basically unguardable tonight. Why would you NOT feed a guy that can't be stopped? Successful teams get the ball to their best players. Look at the Saints. The Cowboys. NE. KC. LAR. This is a no brainer...

The Eagles didn't carve up anything but the run game. Wentz had a whopping 160 yards. They didn't have to try anything deep because all he did all night was hand it off for 5, 6 ,7 or more yard gains. 176 yards on the ground.

Did you actually watch the game? Nothing you are complaining about is valid at all.

I think Rodgers realizes the lack of talent at the skill positions and tries sometimes to do to much himself . Packers talent at many positions is mediocre at best . We will pay for Teddy Thompson's arrogance for a few more years to come . I'll take 3-1 , it could and maybe will get worse .

Yes bad playcalls.... but not so if Rodgers throws to the back guy Shepherd who was way more open. But Rodgers doesn't like or trust guys like Shepherd, which is a shame.

The 4 failures earlier, Jimmy Graham has to catch that 1st down one, and then the 4th down pass he needs to get both hands up to catch it.

I can't believe Davante couldn't go those last 2 drives. I've seen guys gut iut much more serious injuries like separated shoulders, broken ankles etc. What a shame.

We all knew our run defense wasn't good. It's SOFT. It made Denver's running game look good. And the Vikings carved it up & were going to win, except their genius coach had Cuzins pass on 1st down & King caught it.
Speaking of the Queen, A) he's not as great as we all hoped & B) game #4 is the winning answer for which game he would have a hammy or groin knock him out of a game. Lasted longer than I had in the pool.

Dean Lowry is non-existent.
Nobody on the DLine besides Clark.
Where is Muhammad Wilkerson these days?
Who's on New England's practice squad?

Eagles have like 3 ILBs in the #50s who always killed Jones behind the LOS. No space to run.

Why is Martinez our only ILB? He's the only backer who can stop a run but he's also gotta take the TE or RB out in the flat or upfield?

The Smith Bros & Gary & Fackrell all they want to do is go around the edge after QBs. They don't appear to want to get in the scrums of the trenches to battle Olinemen & stuff inside runs. We saw it for the 3rd week in a row. And if u remember, even week 1 with rookie Montgomery, he had some success but genius Matt Nagy wanted to look smart in making Trubisky beat us.

A terrible loss. Huge playoff implications with the NFC loss. At home.
To a team that Detroit just beat in Philly.

The only good thing: the defense has been reading & watching their press clippings & were a little to full of themselves. We all saw the warning signs. But 3 Ws & no Ls hid it to an extent.
Now they know: they're soft. Reminds me of the 2009 defense. They thought they were all that, til 51-45 playoff loss to old Kurt Warner.

You learn the most from losses rather than when you win, and we did a lot of learning tonight. To lose a close game like this at home will sting.

1. We cannot stop the run. Period. I know Pettine focuses on defending the pass, but Zeke is gonna torment us next week unless we get Montravius Adams back and even then, we're still shaky. Lancaster and Lowry are not the answer, even though Lowry got an extension already (ugh).

2. We stink at run blocking against a stout D-line. Aaron Jones, once again, had nowhere to go. The Eagles made us completely one dimensional.

3. Red zone execution....stinks. Between the four passes on the goal line (which I get because we could not run the ball) and the series at the end, that's just hard to swallow.

4. Offense played better. Not amazing, but a lot better. LaFleur has got to be frustrated about the lack of a running game though.

5. Smiths were pretty quiet. First game without a sack and I was hoping Rashan Gary might pop up and make a play, but no. Eagles do have one of the top O-lines in the league, but when you face a playoff caliber team like them, you need to show up in these big moments.

6. Nice bounce back games for Kevin King and Jimmy Graham.

7. Special teams....I'd have to watch it again, but if Josh Jackson was involved in giving up a long return, then that's two weeks in a row now. Crosby and JK Scott were solid.

8. Davante Adams is a beast...which we all know...but if he misses time, then Allison, MVS and Graham need to step up.

Green Bay wasn't going to win all their games, but having said that their lack of ability to win one-on-ones was very surprising.
The last two possessions by Green Bay w/o Adams is exactly why Rodgers has to take a discipline approach to looking for receivers. Adams probably has a turf toe and will be hard pressed to be 80% for another few weeks. In the mean time don't focus primary on Graham because he's your security blanket start looking for the open guy.
The team lost a ton of momentum when the Eagles oline starting beating the crap out of the Packer's front 7.
It OK, there will be 16 games and let's see how they come back as massive underdogs to Dallas.

Didn't like the head shots. If a player goes out. That player that hit him should go out. Zebras were terrible. I would have went for the 3. When a team plays physical, you don't let the momentum change. 4 tries and no points. Hard running means 4-3-4. I can't knock the secondary. This game was lost in the trenches.

The defense can't stop anyone and Rodgers is the leading rusher. Did we go through a time warp?

Was the final throw a case of not trusting the rookie who was going to be standing all by himself in the endzone and Rodgers deciding where he was going to throw it before the play even started?

The defensive plan seems to not care if runs are made against it, figuring they can stuff one eventually, make it 2nd and long and then go to work with pressures and coverage, But if the Iggles backs can do this I am wincing already thinking of the Cowboys rushing success next week.

Well the offense was improved, and moved it. They can spend 10 days doing red zone drills. They need it.

We learned a few things from this game:

1) MLF is no offensive genius; his imprint has been pretty much negligible so far. To engage in that sort of stupidity two separate times inside the five-yard line late in the fourth quarter is beyond pathetic. Man, there just HAS to be a way--especially with first-and-goal at the 1! Can we get McCarthy back?

2) Need some physical players on the interior for both sides of the line. Defensive line got no push whatsoever and got shredded; are we that dependent on M. Adams? Interior offensive line got no push whatsoever and got stuffed. MLF, "Mr. Square Peg In Round Hole", didn't realize the run game wasn't working until the fourth quarter. It's one thing to stick with the run if there's a point (like if it's working or to eventually wear the defense down), but it's another to be blatantly obtuse when it's clear you have to throw the ball.

3) Need to place more of a priority on the inside linebacker position. I had probably been a little higher on Martinez than most, but maybe I should reconsider. Once again, a smaller back was able to get through a tackle--that is, an attempted tackle, and cross the goal line.
A supposedly good defense that isn't stout up the middle really isn't that good at all.

4) The Eagles deserved to win this game because they totally outplayed us in the trenches. Their offensive play-calling was superior as well. So please nobody blame the officials.

Horrible officiating it's absolutely ruining the NFL.

Clark didn't rough Wentz.
MVS was interfered with MLF correctly challenged didn't matter.
Missed helmet to helmet penalty against Shepherd.
PI called against the Eagles on Jeffery's TD overturned when Jeffery was only open for the TD because he pushed off in the first place.
Pick play not called that left Howard wide open for a TD.
Clear PI on MVS that created the game sealing INT.

Did I miss any?

Acquiring Drake or even Gordon won't make GB better at rushing. The offensive line couldn't get any push, couldn't open any holes, and the TEs didn't block either. Sending draft picks for a different RB is just playing Madden.

I agree the blocking needs to be better but too many times I have seen AJ tackled behind the line or barely get back to the LoS because he can't beat a man 1v1. That's where more talent/ability comes in. I heard he lost some weight in the off season to try to be faster but now he can't seem to break a tackle. Acquiring more talent for the roster is always a good idea.

--I love Jaire, but he needs to grow up. He acts like a jackass sometimes.
--Thought Light held up okay in pass pro.
--Jimmy Graham, why are you trying to catch balls with one hand??
--They needed to run Jones out of shotgun on the goaline trips. Spread Eagles out, let Jones pick his way.

--Bottom line, I think It's going to be a loooooooong season. They don't have the size up front to stop the run. I don't think it's coaching, it's personnel. Is Muhammad Wilkerson available? How about Grady Jackson?

Lots of arm chair GMs and film experts chiming in on this one. The loss at the end of the day sucks, but you know what? I'm pretty damn pleased with a lot of stuff I saw last night.

Rodgers got Davante going early and often, but he also did a great job spreading the ball around, including getting passes to all three TEs.

Thursday morning was full of talk about AR being afraid to put the ball inside the numbers. Last night saw lots of completed passes inside the numbers.

Kevin King was called a pass coverage liability on Thursday morning. Thursday night I believe we saw three SOLID pass breakups.

We saw Rodgers making positive plays with his legs, including some first downs, on plays where he would have went Happy feet the previous couple weeks.

The defense looked beat last night, and had no answer for the run game. But everyone was worried about the offense clicking, and by and large, it did.

I expect the Packers to lick their wounds, out in some serious self scouting time, and look forward to Dallas.

Aaron Jones is averaging 3,3 YPC and he is averaged below 2 yards per carry in 3 of the 4 games. No fan of Mccarthy but i kind of understand the way they used him. He is fast and able to take what the OL gives him but nothing else. He isnt built to command a load box cause he is undersize and putting him iso against a linebacker in coverage isnt working either (75 yards in 12 R).

So the running game is not working. What about our passing game? 2 assets. Davante who given man coverage is winning his matchups and creating tons of yards as happened in the first half. The fault-driven trick plays by Rodgers (the TD to graham vs bears, a couple of bombs to valdez-scantling etc) and some playaction or bootlegs early in games.

Basically, as the games go on they zone it up and scheme against Devante load the middle zone and our offense has a hard time moving the chains. But i think they are improving in the passing game, attacking the seams and involving more players. The OL (hope bulaga returns) is protecting AR. We are going to be better...

The defense to me is still great. Clark wasnt 100% and we missed beef and muscle in the DL. Linebacker is a major concern. Actually we have one ILB that is Martinez and he is good against the run but not afainst the pass. We can improve the Run D when the big boys are back but that is not our strenght. Pass rushing is. So we better take an early lead so they abandon the run or we improve the time of possession.

I'm not going to complain about officiating because we've been boned before and we'll be boned again, but we've also benefitted from crappy calls. You cannot control the officiating so it's a waste of time talking about it.

I'm not going to complain about the play calling at the endzone, either. It has always been my opinion that most plays will work if they are executed correctly. That said, I think you have to play to your strengths. Aaron Jones is starting to show that he's one of those guys who can get it into the endzone in short yardage situations.....he finds a crack and squirts through, so I didn't see why he didn't get a chance on first and goal. The second time, he got us from the six to the three on his first run, then we threw an ill-advised slant. It is my opinion that there are just too many hands and arms in the way for that play to work consistently. I'd like to see Jones be given the opportunities until he shows he can't do it......and I think he can.

After a good start against the Bears, we've surrended 198, 149, and 176 on the ground. Not good. I actually think we've got good enough personnel that teams shouldn't be able to run between the tackles on us, but they do. Lancaster, Clark, Lowry, Martinez, Amos, Savage......I don't understand what the problem is but if we don't get it fixed we're not making the playoffs. I'm not going to just say "we miss Montravious Adams" because injuries happen all the time to every team.

We don't run the ball very well, and I don't think that's changing soon. Once again, a new coach has arrived and said "we're going to be a running team" and I've believed it, and once again we're not doing it.

The comments about how our WR group behind Adams isn't that good are misplaced, IMO. Last night, the receivers not named Adams had more catches for more yards than the entire Eagles team. Allison and MSV have combined to make one pretty good #2 WR. I think our WR group is a strength of this team, not a weakness.

In any event, we're 3-1 after the first four weeks, which is actually better than I thought we'd be. Next four games are @ Dallas, home against Detroit and Oakland, @KC. If we can somehow manage a 2-2 record during that stretch we'll be 5-3 at the halfway point. The game against Oakland looks like the easiest, followed by the home game against Detroit.

The Packers didn't look like an 11-5 division champion last night, but you're never as good, or as bad, as you looked. It'll be interesting to see how we rebound next week without Adams, or Jamaal Williams, and with banged up tackles.

If the receiving group is the strength of this team it's going to be a very long year .

LOL and at least Scott can punt 65 yards with a 8-9 second hang.

Well, Adams is one of the better receivers in the league, and MVS and Allison have combined for two fewer catches. What would you expect? And our TEs and RBs are getting targets, too. It looks to me like we’re spreading it around .

If our WRs are garbage, then Adams absence will expose that. I think the guys we have left will do just fine.

Well, What dose anyone expect?? Let's start with our Make-Believe Head Coach. He belongs on a High School team somewhere. I don't want to Criticize AR, but if he called the 4 Pass Plays from the 1 yard line, he deserves the Blame. It should have never come down to that interception. That should have been a FG to win the game. AR is our Best Player. He was Hand Cuffed with Adams healthy, now he's Hand Cuffed & Hog Tied. Talk about the Offensive & Defensive line all you want. We have problems on both sides of the ball. Our main Problem, as I posted last week, is, AR had 1 Receiver to throw to, Now he has None. How can you expect to win that way. AR deserves much more Credit than I am even giving him. To win or play as well as we have with that Make-Shift team we have is a Credit to how Good AR really is.
Once Again, Bulaga is hurt. He's a really good Tackle when he is Healthy, but he is seldom if ever 100%. You can't tell me there isn't a Tackle in all of Division 1, that could take his place. I find that hard to believe. He's earned more money on the sideline than on the field. You've heard me for at least 3 years, if not more saying we should put him on a bus heading anywhere out of GB. I like him, but you can't play in the NFL with a Tackle that's hurt. Graham is a waste of $12 million dollars. My wife said the 2ond string Tight End, looked better than the 1st string. I don't care what you do to the offensive & defensive lines. Nothing will change, because AR has NO ONE to throw to. I also think AR needs a little discipline. In my opinion, he needs a coach like Holgram. Someone who has at least a little control. This coach does Nothing More than collect a check. 2 things!!
1, I still think (The Head Guy) is still running things in GB, & 2, I still think Jordy Nelson & maybe even James Jones could make this team. I wish I could see a Bright Spot down the road, but I don't see any!!

I know the Pack had trouble running, but 1st and goal on the 1 yard line, really? Some bad play calling on the coaching side of thing

With M. Adams, Burks and Greene out, it only makes sense the inside run would be our weak spot. I hope Burks or Adams, or both get back soon. Cause Dallas just watched our last two games and you can bet they'll keep on running up the gut until we can prove we can stop it.

No running game = Rodger's running again= Rodger's gets injured for the rest of the season = Season over.

Lafleur has to get this fixed now. This is not good. Rodger's cannot be the leading rusher.
