Gut Reactions: Packers shrink from the spotlight in loss to the Buccaneers

Aaron gives his gut reactions to the Packers loss to the Buccaneers.

  • Ultimately, it's beyond frustrating, but...hey, maybe don't put yourself in that position? Don't fumble. Don't throw interceptions. Don't give up absurd end-of-half-TDs. Packers did this to themselves.
  • MVS got a lot of shit this year but he's one of the few guys who came to play today
  • Maybe there's something to Rodgers not playing well on this.
  • Rough game from Billy Turner but he rallied.
  • Interesting time to call defensive holding.
  • That said, Packers should never have been in that position.
  • I still love this team.
  • Go Pack Go.

That field goal was the Packers giving up. The Refs made sure their decision was honored.

In the sense that their D was really not playing well enough to expect them to force a 3 and out, yes.

Agree completely 61. Bad time for MLF to get conservative. That was a call that I don't think even McCarthy would have made. Had there had been 4 min on the. Clock yes. But not a 2 min 5 seconds

Lafleur was too aggressive going for 2 much too early. And too conservative not going on 4th down with 4 minutes left. He and Rodgers also blew 25 seconds by huddling when they should have had a 2nd down call ready.

Mind boggling call. Nothing to be gained, you still need to score a TD, but now you're giving them the ball with 2 minutes and at best you'll have to march the length of the field with no timeouts. Dumbest call I have ever seen.

Pretty sure Rodgers could have run it in instead of an incompletion. That being said, you gotta try for a TD and 2 point to tie. A lot of points we gave away fumble and forcing it for an INT. They had a better game plan and the horses to do it. We need a couple good CB's minimum. Watching the AFC game DB's are playing better overall.

I'm good with kicking the field goal after three tries from the 8-yard-line were stopped.
I thought the defense, which seemed to play really hard, and for the most part effectively, would stop the Bucs.
I just wanted the ball back for a try at the winning touchdown -- like millions of other Packers fans.
Aaaarrrrggggggjhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

That was some of my thinking, too, Tundraboy. Let's win this thing in regulation
It was a tough call for LaFleur, and I'm good with the field goal or with going for the touchdown.
As it was, I was really hopeful we'd win.
Wasn't it third down for the Bucs offense when our guy made the fateful grab that stretched the jersey like a sailboat?

I wouldn't say they were giving up. I feel that if rodgers runs it on third down and picks up 5 or 6 yards then they go for it with 4th and goal around the 3 or 4 yard line but he decided to force it into double coverage to davante. Tough call though for sure. Packers had the 2 minute warning and I believe all their timeouts. But perhaps you are right to roll the dice on rodgers arm rather than a defense with king out there. Maybe lafleur wants that call back.

That D gave Rodgers the ball twice in on TO. Rodgers blew it by not converting into points. On the other side Brady capitalized every chance he was given. Make No Mistake... that's a Rodgers failure!

Either way Lafleur also blew it! Along with Aaron Jones getting himself benched for 2 fumbles!

But those TO's were actually in the GB's side of the field where as for GB the ball was on the other side. Their pass rush was too good even if we miss one throw we are doomed and that's exactly is what happened.
Refs letting the Wr's holding didnt help it either.

Dropped balls, lame calls, another give away. Needless to say, Dillon should have had more snaps, King and Jones are definitely out the door. Redmond, scrubs don't deliver when the pressure is on. Decompress, exhale, have a beer. When King grabbed jersey because his feet were slow, Gary was being held by Wirfs, A very Vegas game w/out the PT calls when Lazard was mugged twice in the first half. They made the plays.

It wasn't just the 12 men on the field. Did you see them trying to make wholesale substitutions after the Bucs were already walking up to the line for the snap.

WTF? How stupid was that late an attempt to make sub changes?? Bizarre.

MLF going for the FG that late in the game. Utter nonsense. I was in shock. I assumed he knew that drive was all 4 down territory and planned his plays accordingly. If he was only game planning for three downs then that too changes the plays that were called!!

I need to decompress. Its been a great ride, but finishing this way is very very tough.

Plenty of time in the long months ahead to discuss roster moves, but my initial thought (depending on an unknown total cap number)
- KEEP Linsley
- good bye Kevin King
- unless Arron Jones is happy with $5-7 mill, good bye Arron Jones
- good bye Josh Jackson
- good bye ESB
- good bye many special teamers
- the 2020 draft was a complete cluster fuck. The window was 2020 and maybe 2021. Gute did nothing in that draft to help us in 2020, and I don't give a damn about 2023 when we were so close to a championship season.

I should be too old to let a football game affect me so severely. But I am hurting. Maybe its this damn pandemic and all the extra time (lost working days) to follow the NFL? I need a few months off.

Thanks to CHTV staff and posters for months of entertainment and escape from my real world problems.

God bless you all.

Agree Nitschke to most of your post. Especially about the 2020 draft.

Why do so many Packer fans think even one significant contributor from the draft wouldn't have made a difference. The closest we got was Dillon.

The odds we'll make the NFCCG again next year, much less at home are against us.

Can't figure out why we didn't do more to win it this year.

Apparently someone on the sidelines thought the same thing and it worked. Defense gave up too much but gave the offense a chance to win in the 4th. The offense did not capitalize. Plenty of fingers to point in all directions. I'm not sure which coaching gaffe was worse, the end of the half TD allowed by the defense or the horrific decision to kick the FG on 4th and 8.

The gaffe being o relooked is the failure to call a time out after the long completion. Wasted a lot of time, and an INT on the very next play. Compounding the gaffe was not having the DBs deep. Who gives a shit if the complete a short one. King is history. Pettine, I hope, is too. Another DC may be able to take the D to the next level.MLF will learn from his mistakes. Pettine won’t.

I don't want to be too hard on King, but it seems a good idea for him to not play for the Packers any more. I truly wish him well in another place.
The horrible grab at the end of the game was somehow even worse than the huge gaffe at the end of the first half.
There may have been some frustrating non-calls for pass interference on Packers receivers, but King can't grab a jersey that obviously and expect the refs to ignore it.
At that point, at least make the Bucs complete the pass rather than just give them the penalty.
My major concern is whether King was really focused on the game, and whether the coaches should have switched him out.
In any case, just those two terrible plays (even excluding the dropped ball by Evans over him) are miserable enough for King to need a new start somewhere else.
That grab of the jersey was, for me, the worst play of the game.
Just awful!!!
[Edit: I forgot about King giving up that first touchdown, as well, I think on third down. It's even worse than I remember.
At what point do you bench the guy after the opening touchdown allowed, then the touchdown right before the half, plus the play where Evans dropped a pass over him that would have been a major gain?
May God bless Kevin King. He is young; it's all forgivable; life goes on -- but considering his massive mistakes is maddening, seemingly the difference in the game.]

I'm not saying the defense played great. They were awful on 3rd down early. The TD before the half was absurd.

But they picked three passes. One of the TDs was after the offence turned the ball over at the 8. They put the ball in Rodgers hands with the chance to take the lead twice and a third opportunity to tie it in the 4th. It was an absurd choice to not go for the TD.

So there is plenty of blame on the other side, as well.

I'm not blaming the offense, but it's completely assanine to point the finger only at the defense.

Two picks generated by the defense in critical situations, zero points put up by the offense off of those turnovers.

The offense shit the bed just as much as the defense did.

The offense wasn’t stellar by any means, too many drops and some odd calls, but it was hindered by an egregious non dpi call on an interception and a D that was hopelessly called in the first half. In the second half the F showed how it can perform, but it proved to be to much of a climb.

The key to the game is simple. The Packers need to play to the level they have for the last 4 games. If they don't, expect a loss as like week 6. I don't believe the Packers can overcome trailing a true double-digit lead (14) against the Bucs if they were to fall behind, as this is where IMHO, MLF needs some growth.

Respectfully disagree, at least a little.
The Packers showed a lot of heart in coming back.
The Bucs were really good, but the Pack played it through.
We came up just short, but could've won.
That kinda makes it hurt even more, but at least we gave it our all.
I do agree we can improve, but I think what stands out even more is how far we came this season.
In just two seasons, MLF has done wonders in leading the Pack; the players overall have responded splendidly.
It's good to acknowledge the piercing pain of this game for us as fans and to vent our frustrations -- but we played hard today against a tough team and made a lot of good plays.
We showed well in effort and execution.
We were good enough to come all the way back, but didn't.
I'm proud of the Packers, though.
No regrets.

They got to within 5 points after an 18 point deficit. That says they couldn't make the comeback as I stated. The offense failed to capitalize on 3 successive INTs. The HC got scared and kicked the FG, which all but secured a loss for GB., which is also what I stated about MLF needing growth.

I don't think I have ever read something so fucking stupid. Do you want to see if there are any NFC Championship loser t-shirts for you? How about the holy grail division winner shirts? The only thing that this season did is insure we get a shitty draft spot. It's truly amazing that the players themselves say the seasons a failure and yet people are happy with their participation trophy.

The season was a failure. To say how well they played during the year, how they grew together and that we're so proud of them is nonsense. When it tis the game that puts you into the SB and you're playing a team that you should beat, and instead you drop passes, fumble balls, can't reach the end zone on a kickoff, can't keep your QB from getting sacked, can't intercept a floater that falls through your hands, can't keep a receiver from getting past you....need I go on? They were a failure today and that makes the season a failure. Not proud of them at all.

Aaron Rodgers impressed me in 2020. I thought he was over- the last 4-5 years he was playing ugly football, freelancing, horrible off platform throws, holding the ball too long, not taking checkdowns, seemingly ignoring coaching.

This year, he committed to correction and improvement, and he was undeniably the best QB in the NFL in 2020.

That said, this was probably the best opportunity to go back the the SuperBowl he has had. It's not his fault the packers fell short, but ultimately, it is probably unlikely they'll get another shot like this one.

Great season, truly impressive play from Rodgers all season. It might be time to start thinking about trading Rodgers while his value is still sky high.

Rodgers probably played his last game in Green Bay - best move would be trade to 49ers for a ton of draft picks and save cap$. He can’t seem to catch any breaks from Packers who are never doing to field a competent defense around him

The defense was competent enough to give him the ball 3 times in the 4th with a chance to take the lead or tie. He managed to lead them to a FG.

Having said that, Trade the MVP? Yeah, let's not do that.

Gutedkunst should deal himself. Let LaFleur bring in his own DC. Tampa out hit the Pack. They need a couple bad boys on the defense. Bahk's injury was not fortunate. Turner was being attacked and Wagner was barely trading water all day. Power running game was needed to tame their pass rushers.

No doubt they had everything right there for the taking this year and it hurts right now. But I dunno why they could not put themselves in the same spot again.

If it is the stars at key positions that matter, the Packers are in oood shape with Gary & Z to edge rush. Clark to hold down the middle of the DL. Jaire locking down one side of the field. And one of the better Safety tandems in the game, at least over the last 6-8 weeks. They probably will lose Preston Smith, King and Kirksey. Lowrey is possible cap casualty. None of the losses are key pieces of the defense.

On offense, Rodgers, Adams and Bahk are as good as it gets at what they do. They stand to lose Linsley and Jones in FA, unfortunately. Both are big losses, to be sure. Runyon and Dillon both showed me enough to believe that can contribute more. I think they need to upgrade WR but not that was not the problem today. Tonyan, Daffney and Deguara is a nice base of the kinds of guys that ML's offense knows how to use.

Gute will need to navigate a tough offseason well. I doubt they can be as good getting nothing from the 2021 draft like they did this year. But no reason it cannot happen, IMO.

The cap will definitely be challenging. It's workable to carve out some space but there will definitely be no big $$ signings, whether one of their own or from outside the team.

It all boils down to how well they get back to the roots of any long-term success in the NFL, That means getting outsized production from guys on rookie contracts. There is a nice pool of talent in the mix. They will need more than that both by improvement of those players and adding more.

We will most likely be losing the #1 center in the league, one of the top 5 RB's in the league, and perhaps a very good #2 RB this off season. We won't have Bakhtiari until 2022 season, most likely.

We will also be starting over at CB #2 by most accounts.

That's the short list.

Cap ceiling is going to reduce by $20 million - that's the estimate. We're already in a relatively tough spot by the money before that reduction.

Teams with talented QBs on rookie contracts are going to probably rule the roost the next many years, as the teams with young QBs at the helm will have a significant amount of financial advantage over those with veteran QBs and will be able to build better supporting casts around them.

Uphill sledding until salaries adjust to the new cap. I don't think Rodgers is going to agree to roll back his salary. That means this team is going to be at a significant disadvantage in terms of talent in the next few years compared to 2020.

Jones had two of the fumbles. Turned the third qtr momentum and two easy TDs for toilet bay. Game over. Dillon should have been the go to guy with his bulk. Unsound game plan to force Jones in the first qtr. Tampa's LBs are too fast. When Wagner was schooled by Barrett, LaFleur should have screened him , instead another blown block and a three and out.

Watch Chiefs vs. Bills Game Live Online :2021 NFL Conference Championship. Allen has looked every part the explosive quarterback the Bills were hoping for when he was drafted seventh overall in 2018. This year, he has completed 105 of 148 passes for 1,396 yards and 12 touchdowns, while throwing only one interception. On top of that, he’s also rushed 25 times for 83 yards and scored three times on the ground.

He’s been given a big boost by the wideout Stefon Diggs, who has shined since coming over to Buffalo. He has caught 26 passes — two of which have gone for scores — and taken them 403 yards to average 15.5 yards per reception.

But the Bills last week were thoroughly beat by Tennessee in a 42-16 drubbing, and facing the Chiefs' offense, which is also coming off an upset loss to the Raiders, they’ll need to see real improvement on both sides of the ball.

The Chiefs, after all, are capable of putting up plenty of points. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes has once again looked like an MVP under center, completing 101 of 150 passes for 1,134 yards and 11 touchdowns to no interceptions. He’s also rushed 18 times for 105 yards and a touchdown.

Rodgers looking to get Adams the ball could have ran that TD in if not get to the 1 at least smh. This shit is just frustrating at this point. The count continues

2009 Cardinals
2011 Giants
2012 49ers
2013 49ers
2014 Seahawks
2015 Cardinals
2016 Atlanta
2019 49ers
2020 Bucs
Besides two division teams (which they split with) against the Bears (2010) and the Vikes in 2012 (with Joe Webb as QB) and the Falcons in 2010 this team just can’t face a team in the regular season and beat them in the playoffs. This was the possible the closest the Packers will come with no cap space FA leaving this was probably it. Just Pathetic.

Like more often than not, AR12 played not his best football in the championshipgame. If he plays halfway like last week, we are in.
The INT were not that worst part and not such a big problem. Missed some open guys, did not run when he should, that was way worse.
And you have to give Tampa some credit, they missed some guys on D, but played a good game there anyway.

But AR has his best season in 5 years and maybe he can keep it up 2-3 years from now. Anyway, it was a fun season but like always... a lot can happen in the playoffs.

"Interesting time to call pass interference"? Seriously? That was BS, pure and simple. Sure, the Packers made an lot of errors. Similar to Seattle having five turnovers in the 2014 championship, they still managed to win. In this case, the Packers were denied that opportunity on a very, very questionable call. That PI at that time was utter BS. They didn't call Lazard getting mugged several times; they didn't call Adams getting his jersey pulled several times. Oh, but an incidental tug that didn't impede the WR during a crucial down? NOW is the time to throw a late, late flag. BS. Total and complete BS.

1. The secondary particularly Kevin King( especially the 1st half) was horrible. He was clearly identified as the weakest link and he showed it. The remainder of the secondary couldn't locate the ball...at this stage of the season. Such terrible technique...!

2. Adrian Amos....how could you allow a TE behind you?

3. I hate to say and I know they won't do anything about it, but Pettine needs to go. Bad scheme!...again! They controlled the run but the secondary was awful! When you should play prevent you don't. I don't get it.

4. Special teams again was bad. Time for a big change.

5. God damn Rodgers stop looking only to Adams. You had a reasonable chance of running in on that last drive.

6. If the Packers couldn't make it to the Super Bowl with this team they are not going to. With the Salary cap issues next year the Pack is going to regress. Of course , I hope not but....

"God damn Rodgers stop looking only to Adams. You had a reasonable chance of running in on that last drive."

I thought Rodgers had a chance to run it in too but I rewound that play right away afterwards to take another look and he wouldn't have made it. The Bucs had 2 players covering Lazard IIRC at about the 2 or 3 and one or both would have got him before he got anywhere near the goaline.

Maybe a few years ago but not at 37.

Taryn, for once we agree. I think he should have ran too. 4th and goal from the 2, maybe the 1, IS easier and I think MLF would try for the TD then. The FG did absolutely nothing.

Good Riddance Kevin King. That TD pass at the end of the half will give me nightmares for years! Flashback to 2011 and Akeem Hicks. WHY he continues to play back on every play is fucking beyond me. Christ he STILL gets beat giving up a cushion like that.

Can't be mad at Aaron Jones, he was huge in getting us here. But damn due, 2 fumbles in the NFC Championship game? That 2nd fumble was an absolute killer.

WTF was Matt LaFluer doing not going for it on 4th down. Did you REALLY think you'd stop Brady. You either have a chance to tie the game with a TD and 2 Pt. conversion OR if you score a TD and miss the 2 Pt. you STILL would have to stop Brady. HORRIBLRE call from a guy who's made the right ones all year long.

I'm REALLY proud of this team, the way they fought back, but somehow I think this was the best chance Rodgers had to win one more SB. This team will look VERY different next year.

I don't mean to be THAT fan, but the refs really were the main difference in this game. Both teams left points on the board - TB with a number of bad drops and the Packers with some bad execution in the red zone and getting too pass-happy from the get-go. If the refs just call the obvious holding on Lazard on both the Rodgers pick - which turned into 7 points - and the 3rd down after Brady coughed up the ball, this game is likely ours.

You never want to let it come to that, I know. The Packers did not play up to their talent through 4 quarters. But this was a really sh***y game from an officiating standpoint and it killed what should have been our season.

It was a fun year. Back at it next year, I guess.

Kevin King gave up 2 TDs and a DPI for a first down. He should be gone tonight. Even if Tampa kicks FGs on those drives we still win the game.

On 3rd and goal Rodgers should have made a run for the TD. Even if he doesn’t make it we go on 4th down. Even if we don’t make it Bucs start inside their 5 with over 2 minutes left. Also, MLF should have gone on 4th down for the same reasons.

Adams dropped TD in 2Q and ESB’s drop on 2 point conversion really hurt our chances.

I thought the defense played very well except for King.

Tough loss to take but the Packers delivered a much better season than I expected back in September.

Well out of 31 points, they gave up 7 after the offense gave the Bucs a first and goal at the Packers 8. Also
as I posted if King covers the 2 long TDs he allowed and the Bucs kick 2 FGs, the Bucs are held to 16 points and we win the game 27-16.

As I posted the defense played well except for Kevin King.

The Packers were also hurt by Adams TD drop which cost us 4 points, ESB cost us 2, and we should have gone for it on 4th and goal. That is not on the defense. Thanks, Since ‘61

Nice try. You can’t change the outcome by wishful thinking. If this, if that. You can say that about every play in every game. The defense played well, but not well enough. The offense played well but not well enough. The special teams didn’t play very well, but have been worse. Tampa Bay played better, especially on defense.

My gut reacts with a mass ulcer attack. But still in the shock of the Packers' loss...here are my TEN ABSOLUTELY INDISPUTABLE REACTIONS. (LOL)

1. Fatal strategic mistake by Lafleur to NOT GO for the TD on fourth down with just over two minutes remaining. I don't have the analytics' stats to back me up, but I think the Pack definitely needed to go for the TD rather than kick the FG and PRAY TO BE ABLE TO HOLD BRADY TO A SINGLE POSSESSION. THOSE ARE TERRIBLE ODDS.

2. Rodgers seemingly had an open field to the goal line on 3rd down although there was at least one defender at the goal line who might have stopped him just short, but at least that would have made it 4th down and very short yardage.

3. Poor play-calling following each interception by the great Jaire Alexander.

4. At least now no one will be worried about allowing Kevin King to leave the team as a free agent. Giving up the TD with seconds remaining when ONLY a hail mary would win the game was absurd. King should have played well off and NEVER NEVER NEVER let his man get behind him.

5. FIRE THE BLOODY IDIOT MIKE PETTINE. This team CANNOT WIN WITH THIS TYPE OF DEFENSIVE STRATEGY.

6. EQ CANNOT drop the 2 point conversion even if the ball was slightly tipped by Sue.

7. It seems clear that MVS has the makings of an elite WR. I officially withdraw my tirades against the decision to draft Jordan Love instead of a WR in the first round. The Packers had enough good receivers to advance to the Super Bowl.

8. Finally, Rodgers had a poor game. He overlooked several open receivers.

9. Now I am going to reach for the whiskey bottle. Go Pack Go. Best regards to Aaron Nagler, the true blue Packers' fan Perri Goldstein, and Packers' faithful around the world.

10. Just to repeat: FIRE MIKE PETTINE.

Harold Drake- My two cents
1. EQ 2 point conversion drop

3. Arod not running for TD in the red zone twice!!
4. TB no call defensive pass interference on 3 critical plays (Adam’s, Lazard 2 times, MVS) .

I'm with you. Pass interference was not considered a punishable offense until the very end of the game. And it was obvious throughout the game that the refs were allowing the Bucs' secondary to grab Packers' WRs at will.

The Buc's brought their smash mouth style football with them to Lambeau field. They picked on defensive players #20, #39 and any LB who played. How can Pettine call a man to man defense before the end of the 2nd qtr..? Pettine should be removed.. And the Packers drafted Kevin King when they could have had TJ Watt. All season Kevin has been the target on defense. The Buc's had a better game plan and were the better team today congrats to them NFC Champions. *Big game, win the toss, and let Tom Brady get the ball first, and let the Bucs take momentum right away.
*End of 2nd quarter, don’t play zone and give up a Long TD on man on man coverage (King was beaten like a drum all game long).
*Score a TD with plenty of time on the clock, attempt a 2 point conversion (which we have been lousy on all year), receiver drops the pass, lose momentum once again.
*How many times do we need to run it up the gut into the strength of of their defense and gain zilch?
*Can’t we ever do anything on our return units?
Love this team, but the coaches did not bring their A game. Bummer.

-When you are out-coached by a guy whose most coherent philosophy is, "no risk it, no biscuit," you need a lot of time to think.

-Whoever gave Kevin King a back massage this week should be fired.

-Listening to the geniuses claiming Brady got the Bucs to the big game will suck. Because WE got them there.

I will not offer any excuses and agree with the author 100 percent. I knew going into this game that kevin king was a weak link. But maybe he should of stayed out today with the back injury because he probably lost his chance at a lucrative contract somewhere. Gave up 2 tds. One being an egregious end of half bomb. And he had the blatant holding call at the end. We picked up Tramon. He should of replaced king at the half

The bottom lines are:
1. TB's O line is better than the Packer's Dline.
2.TB's Dline is better than the Packer's Oline.
3. TB's Dbacks are better than the Packer's DBacks.
4. Rodgers may be this year's MVP, but Brady is a better QB than Rodgers. Damn, that hurts to write.
5. MLF showed that by kicking a FG, he is still rookie.
6. TB is overall a better team than GB. If they played ten times, TB would win eight of them.
7. Home field is meaningless.
8. Freezing weather is meaningless.
9. Redmond, King, Pettine and Jones should not be on the tam next year.
10. GB needs to get a kicker than can reach the end zone.

That was so frustrating to watch. I'm disappointed, but not gutted. Oh, what could have been.

Bucs should give Kevin King a game ball. That said, there was a ton of jersey tugging going on by their DBs, and holding by their OL that went uncalled.

We had our chances and didn't get it done. Feel bad for Aaron Jones. I hope his knee is okay, and he gets the big payday he deserves.

This season has all been such a welcome reprieve from the events of the world. I'm thankful for that, and for health.

Good stuff, Leotis.
Those fumbles by Aaron Jones seemed to be on perfectly placed hits -- so I can't fault him too much, if at all.
In general, I think the Bucs were just a little better.
We still could've won, but a lot of our mistakes were due in part to playing a team that was really physical and fast and efficient and talented.

Any coordinator that feels like its a good idea to put Kevin King on an island against Tom Brady needs to be shown the door. Blame all around though. Offense did nothing with the turnovers. D got very little pressure. We somehow always are forced to run the biggest race after having shot off onefoot

-I'll be that guy: the refs made the right call on King. That was blatant holding/interference. The ones against Tampa were not as bad.
-I have a hard time saying Pettine should be fired when his 2 and 3 corners are King and Sullivan. That's... not a lot to work with.
-Great game by MVS.
--This will get buried by everything else, but settling for the first field goal in the second quarter was brutal (indefensible Adams drop, Rodgers not throwing to a WIDE open Lazard).
--Why in the world did Rodgers not run???
--Great season, even more appreciated given the pandemic.

I'm not saying we should have won this game, but we definitely could have if it not been for (pick one):

1) The bonehead decision to kick the FG instead of giving Rodgers another chance
2) Kevin King
3) The end of the half--how could they??!!!!!!!
4) AR missing a couple of open receivers
5) Abysmal third down defense in the first half
6) ESB not catching that conversion with his body
7) Holding not being called on Devin White near the end zone

We definitely missed Bakh this time around.

Special teams made some nice tackles, Jaire and MVS are money players, and at least we showed some resilience after being down by 18. That being said, we still failed to get the job done once again in the title game, and it's very, very disappointing with this great opportunity. The Brooklyn Packers....what's it gonna take to break through, here??

There is a lot of blame to pass around. The offense squandered two interceptions but I'm looking at Kevin King. Soon to be ex packer. Start looking at new cornerbacks. Absolutely terrible pick

Comon pack fans. You should know that throught the year the phils. was, If we score more then our opponenst we dont need no stinking defense.
\I've posted for years, this pass defense was the achiles heel of this team and if you want to beat them, pass pass pass.

Sulivan,. played off and couldnt cover, funny how Bradyt knew from the start of the game this was one of the people to throw against. King, allowed two easy un contested touchdowns that basically was the game. That was it. Him letting the receiver get past him and trying to jump in the air to make up for it.
This team needs to dump King, Sullivan, Redman and get some 6'1 backs who have speed and are able to cover. Otherwise just kiss next year off as an also ran.
You cant blame Capers or POetting for the fact that they knew the guys they had didnt have cover speed or tackling ability. This is on the draft

Brutal way to end what was a fun season in the midst of the pandemic. Fingers to point? Jesus, everywhere I guess. All the good things that were done this year didnt happen today. Five sacks? Only gave up twenty all year. No Aaron Jones. Hope they are taken notice what its like without him. He adds a dynamic that wasn't there when he got hurt. Dropped balls. Nuff said. Defensive lapses....again. Nuff said. Playing safe and not playing for the win, Its a long time till the draft and training camp. Going to be a lot of new faces and the window on AR will continue to close, if it hasn't all ready.

The offense was mediocre.

Mike Pettine sucks.

Kevin King REALLY sucks.

Rick Wagner sucks.

Billy Turner sucks.

Special Teams sucks.

Another dismal NFCC game, another end-of-year list of pathetic excuses.

You don’t do that in the NFCC and win.

To me it was the line-play that brought GB down.

Their D-line is better that ours. The pressure on Rodgers was significantly higher than ours on Brady.

Their O-line limited pressure on Brady, who's a sitting target and rarely leaves the pocket.

We couldn't run against their front either.

When you suck for many years as TB had, you should be able to draft some decent players.

So when you play four quarters, it eventually shows-up.

Score 6 points off 3 turnovers is truley a game changer .. so many missed opputunities I'm not sure what the plan for aaron rodgers is, but I have to agree with alot of people this was probabley his best chance to win a super bowl in green bay .. your not going to have a mvp season like this again .. you can see it on rodgers face but I think 2014 was devastating but that was 6 years ago this one is bad..

Game came down to 3 important things.
1. Aaron Jones fumbled twice and got BENCHED. Cost 7 puts.
2. Brady converted in turnovers or equivalent plays (scoring end of half). Rodgers didn't convert after 2 TO by D in 2nd half.
3. Poor decisions by Lafleur. Went for 2 pts much too early at end of 3rd. And didn't go on 4th down inside 10 yd line with 4 minutes left (counted on D to stop the GOAT). STUPID!

Gut wrenching loss in a game we should have won handily. From the outset it seemed we were flat. Does this spell the end of Pettine? Will the Packers actually draft an MLB in the 1st or 2nd (Lookin at you Nate Landman from Colorado). This loss was worse than losing in Seattle. Oh what could have been. Go Pack Go

I absolutely disagree with your last statement. We led the entire 2014 NFC title game including 19-7 with 5 min left AND had the ball. We never led in this game. Todays loss was absolutely tough and we could have won. But the Seattle loss is the greatest loss in the history of the franchise and its not very close.

Gut reactions? I have many mixed feelings. I’m happy they didn’t pack it in in the second half. First half Buck and Aikman were passing out Brady handjobs in an epic narration of endless love. Late 4th quarter 3rd and Goal Rodgers should’ve ran. 4th and goal, we should’ve gone for it, refs letting the players play decided to predictably throw a game deciding PI. The O line was a bit of a letdown. Felt like we left a lot of meat on the bone in this game. First half was played lacking emotion. My gut reaction is both proud of the run we had this year mixed with wanting to light a basket of puppies on fire.

Agree Aaron. This one really hurts. I know how rare the chances are and to play like we did today, just so disappointing. Last year, I got over the loss quickly because we weren’t as good as SF. But this one, we were the better team and just played so poorly at times. Just really down about it.

- Team loss
- Defense sucked, but played good enough to win it
- Offense choked on last 3 drives, with some extremely stupid play calls
- MLF went brain dead on FG instead of going for it
- Empty backfield for the loss!

About best thing that can be said is that special teams didn't blow it, except for the constant short kicks.

Like I said at start, team loss.

Did they cut King yet?

Given the time on the clock, and the score on the board, I don't know how you don't have Rodgers take a shot on 4th down instead of taking the field goal. Worst case scenario, you are still down by 8, the Bucs are starting inside their own 20, and you have about 6 more seconds on the clock.

The turnover/score at the end of the half, plus the Jones fumble to start the second half, gave the Bucs a double-up. That is really hard to overcome. And it was very painful to watch. You change those three plays, and the Packers win this game by about 10 points.

There was NO pressure on Brady in the first quarter. None. Rodgers was the better QB today by any measure.

I don't know where the Packers go from here. They are $25M in the red on the salary cap, so they cannot simply add a few pieces in the draft and expect to be right back here next year. This may have been the last and best shot for #12. Coming up short sucks. Watching two HOF QBs net two Super Bowl wins between them sucks.

This game was over at 1/2. This team was shell shocked!! I told you that they were going to let them play! The defense was to slow out of the Gate. Put the blame on Gute Period! You don't draft offense when your DL sucks. And the secondary can't stop a Brady. You spend 16 mil on FAs and sign a OT before the season is over. Putting the writing on the wall for everyone else. Yes, I blame Gute. Detroit attacked Sullivan all year. Redmond Too. And Savage cannot cover step for step. But why blame Gute? . He's wonderful. Because he's made monkeys out of us with Gary. If you fire Pettine take Gute with you. Please! Biggest mistake of the game; was going for two. Not the FG at the end. These officials were not going to let the packers dig themselves out of a hole. Much like Gute. Who started the hole: by not drafting Defense. Didn't Gute sign everyone he could to make up for his drafting mistakes. His Next move- How to get rid of a MVP QB. But why? Didn't an Old man beat us today?

1. Was impresses with the mind set of Tampa. 13 secs left why would you punt to end the half when you got two shots in the end zone to a defense thats not that good. Game ball Tampa
2. You have no chance to win but to score a td an go for two to tie. You flub it up and punt. With 2.5 minutes left and Rogers as your QB.
3., Rodgers under pressure is not HOF qb, He folds like a whilted flower.
He loves to see the field and throw the perfect pass that cannot be intercepted, a pass rush screws that up and his mind too.
4. This D cannot play man or zone. They lack speed and size and just arent that good at stopping a passing game. The Bucs came in knowing this and exotorted this.

The team with the better defense won and it wasn’t us. Yes, we made some plays, but our 3rd down defense was very poor and King was awful. I’d be shocked if King is back at any price and think it’s time to replace Pettine. The Bucs TD at the end of the first half was inexcusable.

Well, the handwriting is on the wall...IF this so-called hotshot coach can't trust the best QB in the game on that 4th down...AND...decides to trust the error-prone defensive 'genius' Pettine to get the ball back against a savvy SB-winning QB...then AR should exercise his option and get out of GB-he won't get a better chance than this ! He can go to NO and take over where Brees left off with a great defense, offense and coach...OR...if Brady wins the SB and retires, he can win a SB there in TB.
Then we can see how smart LaFleur is with Jordan Love under center.. :-)

Something about Rodgers and LaFleur when they're behind and the pressure is on, there is a degree of panic, no other way to say it. LaFleur's calls get worse and Rodgers, because he's been pressured during the game, doesn't see the field as well, rushes to make a throw, and misses seeing wide-open receivers. Rodgers made some great throws today, but so did Brady. A rocket on 3rd down to the rookie receiver. The throw that beat King at the half was perfect. He doesn't rattle. Yes, he threw interceptions, but one was off Evans's hands that should have been a completion and another was simply a Hail Mary knowing even if intercepted was like a punt. He takes those chances. He got the ball back with two minutes and was flawless. The Gronk call was perfect and seemed so easy. Sorry folks, it's not the refs that have taken Brady to ten SBs. Today's biggest reason for a loss was King. Two TDs given up and a game-ending DPI. They knew who to exploit. LaFleur and Rodgers could have done the same to their safeties, but didn't. This was a huge legacy loss for Rodgers. With all the fails we've had in these games, I think this may be the hardest for him to swallow because it came against Brady.
