3rd year of not watching the NFL and it sure looks like I am not missing anything. I watched all the Lombardi era NFL championship games. I will remember those much more than games today.

So, question for everyone: In what year will the Packers have a winning season again?

2022 or earlier?
2023 or later?

If the question was what year they'll win the division again, I'd take the over.

Should be able to eek out a 9-7 somewhere before 2022.

This is back to back losing seasons. Rodgers has been hurt for his 2nd straight and actually 3 out of 4 if you count his calf injury. Doesn't bode well for the future. He's not going to get healthier as he ages.

Makes the contract extension look beyond stupid. In same category of stupid of playing him today or last week.

I'll be curious to see how sites like this and others fare over the next few years. I think a lot of fans jumped on in the Favre years and don't know losing seasons. It's 2 and counting now and not better than 50-50 next year will be an over .500 year. Many may jump ship if not now, when 2019 doesn't get off to a great start.

The 70's and 80's were mostly rough. Things might get better when Murphy is jettisoned.

Rodgers extension was foolish, we had him under contract for two years and could franchise him two more IF HE WAS WORTH IT. But instead, now we have destroyed our salary cap on a player with three concussions and a John Brockington mindset.

Did you hear about the conversation between Rodgers and Mathews. Mathews asked Rodgers if he was playing the whole game. Rodgers said yes, then Mathews said then he would also. Who in the heck is running this team and manageing the assets that we pay 10’s of millions? Is it left up to players to decide if they will play or not. This sounds like an unmanaged team of multi millionaire union guys with too much power. Those same two spend lots of time making commercials.

Earth to Murphy, please wake up and show these moron coaches that you have hired how to manage. How can you leave it up to millionaire players to decide if they want to play or not. Did you happen to notice the abject stupidity of allowing Rodgers to play in a meaningless game. Drew Brees sat out . Was Drew the smart one or was it the GM or the HC.?

You folks attacking Murphy are misguided. Bad drafting is the root cause of all that ails the Pack and let's be honest, no where near a plurality was calling for Thompson's head two years ago. I say we are lucky to have Murphy instead of some wealthy suit who never played the game, nor got an MBA, nor went to law school, nor was an NFL exec, nor a league officer.

Under Murphy/Gutenkunst the Packers have gotten *worse*. It's too early to tell, but you'd at least like to see some signs of improvement. I love Alexander and the trade down to pick up an extra pick was savvy. But, aside from that, there isn't a ton to get excited about the way Murphy/Gute have built the roster. There may be more holes to fill in 2019 than 2018. We are going backwards, here.

Magic Mark is a pariah. Gutekunst is uninspiring.

We even need a punter after curiously getting rid of Vogel and wasting a 5th-rounder on JK Scott. Brian acted like his picks were luxuries not necessities foolishly wasting a 2nd, 3rd and 4th on the trio of Josh Jackson, Oren Burks, and J'Mon Moore. Add that to the punter and long snapper misses. He also did a brutal job of background checking, wasting a pick on Cole Madison who likely had mental health issues so bad that his head couldn't possibly be on football. I feel for that kid. He was Tyler Hilinski's best friend.

The best parts of our org were not Ted Thompson and Brian Gutekunst. It appears now that Dorsey, McKenzie, Wolf and Highsmith were integral parts. What's left is a veritable "B-team" front office headed by Mark Murphy who went full on micro-manager after years as a neglectful absentee landlord.

If it sounds like I'm down because of this season that isn't the case. The wheels have been coming off for years. I thought this team would be battling for the basement before the season started. Although, they have a better record than Detroit, it's pretty clear they're not better than Detroit.

Those that believe a new HC will just automatically turn us into the Rams, that is an outlier. The odds are this team is heading further down the path of losing seasons.

Brian doesn't know who to sign. He missed on Mack and added Jimmy Graham and the unimpressive Mo Wilkerson and fossil Williams for sentimental reasons. None provided anything close to a level of winning football. Total wastes of financial resources. To compound that Brian thought all of them were good additions. He lacks the ability to admit failure. That's a very troublesome quality. He whiffed on all 3 FA acquistiions and had a very below average first draft.

Honestly, it feels like Tom Braatz is back running the show. Dark times lie ahead. I anxiously await 2021 when Rodgers can be moved on from. I'll bet the org is begging to take the 11.5 mil dead cap hit to be rid of him when the time comes. We'll see.

Hard to get excoted? I bet before the defense was falling apart ad losing 9 of 11 starters you were excited.. all the door and gloom around a team with a decimated roster and everyone wants to hang the GM and president of the team... It's incredibly difficult to win the war of attrition

No. I wasn't. If you read what I posted, I told you I predicted the Packers woudl be battling for the basement with Detroit before the season started.

The doom and gloom has NOTHING to do with the record. It has to do with direction and who is directing.

If you trust Mark Murphy more power to you. I think you're a fool. I couldn't work for that guy. I have watched his pressers and heard his interviews. No respect for him at all. I find him incredibly distasteful.

Brian is a "nice" guy. Not the aggressive a$$ kicker needed. He's not the alpha male type. Murphy is a weak deluded egomaniac. That combo is wholly unimpressive and if you care to look at who is actually in our org I think you'd be horrified if you looked and understood what is here now vs. what was here many years ago. It's truly a "B team" ... it's like having 2nd and 3rd stringers in our front office. What is that going to get you?

We need A people in this org. We currently have ZERO in the front office. Pettine is the closest we have to an A type around here. We have few A players to go along with it.

Not sure why anyone would be overly optimistic outside of just wishing it to be so? This is going to get much uglier before it gets better.

If you think you're going to be bragging to your buddies that the Packers are NFCN champs next season, I think you're horribly out of touch with where this org is at.

Agreed 100%.

A lot of Packer fans were complaining about GM Thompson years ago....a few more a year later, and many more by 2017..... I suppose there might still be a few TT-brainwashers who still think he was a good GM.
But it's clear to all the rest of us now that HIS "Draft&Develop" only strategy killed this franchise since 2014. Horrific drafts, coupled with being a stubborn old anti-free agency guy, closed the Rodgers window.

It means they made a whole slew of bad personnel decisions. We've hashed them all out over the past several years. Some were poor draft choices, others were mistakes in re-signing their own or letting their own walk and still others were in their vet FA choices on the rare occasions they entered that market.

Where in this is the plan was sound? The execution has been terrible but I don't see any sound decision making that you alluded to above.

Deep down do you honestly think Murphy/Gutekunst is a dynamic winning combo, or do you find yourself trying to convince yourself that it is just because you love the Packers?

I don't believe there is a single person here or elsewhere who truly believes we have the right people in this org to turn it around. We have a lot of sycophantic wishers and hopers.

I'd love to feel differently but I don't and that's for a reason and that's not because I'm negativve. I'm real with myself and don't pretend anything. This org has been frustrating for several years now.

The HC hire better be old Aaron Rodgers level to cover for the FO like Rodgers covered for a weak roster forever. Short of that, this team is looking at a string of losing seasons that could mirror the "winning" seasons talked about like they were Super Bowls of the past.

Absolutely. It's amazing what a little losing will do for one's vision. Those with true vision saw before the losing. A lot of us did.

If you can't see now what's most likley to happen going forward, I feel for you. That transition is going to be mighty rough. It's not easy adjusting to unmet expectations

Now that Ted and MM are gone we're about half way to what we really need to be relevant again. Rodgers to depart so Gutekunst, Murphy, Ball, etc. get cleaned out and this whole thing starts from the bottom all over again.

I'd be much prouder of a team that is truly building under excellent direction than one that is flailing under poor leadership. This org has been so frutstrating. Please, spare me the "how lucky we've been" speech. All a matter of perspective and mine is that of squandering a rare talent that is unlikely to ever grace us again. I think you pay for such things..and we will pay.

When Wolf and Holmgren got here that was as exciting as it's ever been for me. I look forward to a potential duo like that in a few years.. Murphy and Gutekunst is just so so depressing.

Dash, I'm guessing, but he may feel somewhat like I do and I do remain a Packer fan and still go from California to Green Bay about once a year to watch in person and watch the others on TV. My interest started to wane when they started making the games other than a chance to eliminate that sickening political crap I see on TV and hear about all too often. I'm no hero, but I do admire what the heroes in uniform have done to protect me and my family and a great many of them felt badly when players started the kneeling during the anthem. I just wish demonstrations could be done during times other than when I just want to sit back and enjoy watching a game I never excelled at but still love.

While I understand your point, Ferrari Driver, other than receiving a large chunk of cash from the Department of Defense, why is the NFL involved at all in a salute to service/recruiting for the military? Also, why the need to sing/play the National Anthem prior to sporting events?

Hey LH, I think I have become somewhat sensitive because I used to watch the news years ago to hear what was going on in the world and country. Nowadays, I don't hear the news; all I hear from every source is commentators/reporters criticizing democrats or criticizing republicans or the sitting President, for whichever party is in power at the time.

I have observed that that most every country sings/plays their national anthem prior to sporting events and I personally don't recall seeing anyone present being disrespectful during that time. As I said, I'm not hero, but I do consider those who put their life on the line to protect you and me and better ensure our way of life are people I admire and while some may not be concerned about protests about the flag, there are some who are offended and I would not want to offend those who have sacrificed so much and earned so little compared to people like me.

"Who is John Galt?" was an "in" question at my high school (I graduated in 1968). A lot of us thought Ayn Rand was really cool/smart. Then we grew up. And realized it was drivel/nonsense. What works so well in novels, where the author controls everything, doesn't work in the real world, where it's adherents can have devastating effects on real people's lives.

ricky... I'm an author and work in the real world. Uncover was my first novel and won Peoples Choice award for fiction.
There are a lots of authors and publishers that are still stuck in the high brow "big question" attitude, but there are a lot of us working stiffs that write books that are fun to read.

This Packers team could be compared to the last book of a 5 book series that has strung the story line two books too long and the readers have lost interest.

The Packers, Lare, HankScorpio, Fastmoving, Since 61, and many others I can't remember offhand that said Aaron Rodgers should play that last two games. Lare and Hank I could see but Since 61 I can't believe could not see the danger and damage that this could cost us if something bad happened to Rodgers with less than ideal border fencing protecting Rodgers. It was simply common sense not to play him but so many for some reason chose to roll the dice. Now we are in much worse shape.

What if their "plan ahead" was to install someone as an interim that they had no plan to retain so as to prevent internal division over the HC search?

Very frequently our institution hires interim fills who we know will not have the qualifications we desire in a permanent hire in order to prevent that kind of infighting.

I highly doubt it Old School, Philbin is gone and may get no more than an exit interview. Philbin IS part of this teams failure as OC. If the Arizona game was enough to move on from McCarthy, this unacceptable performance is enough to eliminate Philbin as a candidate. Murphy and Gute will move in a new direction.

That rule was abolished for the 2011 season, when the NFL increased the roster size to allow 46 players to dress for a game. Boyle has been inactive most of the season, not because of injury, but because he would take a roster spot.

It makes sense to not play Boyle. They didn't want other teams to know how great he is. The only good thing that came from this game is it exposed Rodgers and Kiser and we moved up in the draft even with Rodgers trying to win. That's how bad we are and how bad Rodgers currently is. Had Boyle played, we would have won, moved down in the draft and teams would have an eye on Boyle knowing the Packers are stuck with Rodgers for the next 6 years. Clearly not playing Boyle was a smart and strategic move.

$16 mil to replace the "contribution" of Graham and Perry is plenty. I put contribution in quotes because it is sort of hard to say that either made a meaningful one.

Graham averaged 39.75 yds/game and 0.125 TDs/game. That's Jarrett Boykin-level production. Boykin was a minimum contract guy, not paid $9 mil as Graham is due for 2019.

Perry contributed a whopping 1.5 sacks on the year. That's not even Frank Zombo level production. Again, Zombo played for the minimum, not the $11 mil Perry is due this year.

If they can't replace Graham & Perry with any old schlubs off the street and make up that kind of production, they have problems that avoiding dead cap as if it was the plague of the black death won't solve. Save the $20 cash and $16 mil in cap space to invest in OL, pass rush, pass catchers or DBs or even a punter that can make an actual meaningful contributions.

Rodgers got 13 yards of offense in 1 quarter. Without Adams and Aaron Jones the Packers are 0-16. Let's see what Kizer can do with Adams and Jones before we write him off. I think you vastly overlook how bad Rodgers has been in 2018. Here's hoping he comes back in 2019 looking like the Rodgers of old and that Gute has a good draft and FA haul there's a lot of work to be done.

Basically stated that the browns were/are more talented top to bottom than GB. I believe it. It took 3 Rodgers miracles to get 3/6 wins. Do you think Kizer could lead comebacks against the Bears or Jets in those circumstances, because I don’t.

They have improved their draft pick to 12 as of now. If Denver can upset LAC or Cincy can upset Pitts, it will move even closer to the front of the draft order. Next, we can pull for a 1 and done from NO to drop that pick from 32 to 28.

Either way, it's 3 picks in the first 44 and $40 mil (or more) in cap space.

I’d love to see Rodgers traded so all of the pack fans that don’t live in reality can watch him win another bowl while Boyle proves he can’t win a game if his life depended on it. Rodgers didn’t have the greatest year but this team has many more flaws than most. Overpaid aging players that don’t deserve to be on this roster and tt’s last draft picks being outright awful. He built a great team until 2013 or so. Since he drafted some awful players. And was awful in the first round besides Kenny Clark. Again I’m not drinking any kool aid like some of you think. Rodgers deserves the money for what he’s done and isnt his fault that coaches and management wasted his best years. But I say trade him so he can win another super bowl and Green Bay rebuild. But in the process you and many others will see that finding a qb doesn’t fall into your lap.

QB's dont just fall into your lap.
That is why i propose building a team that doesnt require an elite QB in order to operate. I want to get away from a team built around an elite QB and instead develop a team which gives any decent QB a realistic opportunity to win games.

Do that, and you dont have to reach to find the next great QB in the meantime- you can win games while you're looking for the right QB of the future.

And when you do find him- watch out! because you already have a defense and a ground game.

Right now with them signing Rodgers to that contract when they didn't have too leads me to believe they'll more than likely F this up and dig an even deeper hole long term. If they go short term and build around Rodgers we could be screwed for 10 plus years or even longer. People better pray I'm right about Boyle if that's the case.

It's everyone's fault but Rodgers again.

All you have to do is isolate on what a player actually does, and you see the truth.

Rodgers threw more ugly balls in 2018 than I've ever seen from him. Under, over thrown. Poorly placed. Over WR's heads, at their feet. Behind them towards the coverage instead of out in front of them, leading the WR to open field. So many yards left out on the field because of poor throws. Not even mentioning open WRs in progression he simply either ignored or didn't see, looking for something bigger or someone he "trusts", resulting in stalled drives.

There's nothing wrong with the receiving corps. Everyone knows the right side of the line needs desperate overhaul. Rodgers has been changing the plays at the LOS is has passionately defended the offense when he was asked about MM changing it (there's nothing wrong with it in the first place, he told us.).

I have to believe Rodgers plays better in 2019 because it would be hard for him to play worse. 2018 was a great example of the stats not telling the whole story. Aaron Rodgers net performance in 2018 hurt the GBPs.

Sorry oppy...Not saying it's everybody's else fault but between the scheme and the lack of playmakers it would have been tough for any so called "Elite QB"

Nelson and others have said it takes 3 years to truly learn the WR position in the current Packers offensive scheme and for the most part that's been 100% true. Jennings and Jones had somewhat successful 1st seasons but that was with Farve, a QB who NEVER shied away from receiver he didn't think he could hit.

Again Rodgers doesn't get off without blame, but this offense LACKS playmakers..Period! It's time to spend some friggen resources on the offensive side of the ball AND give Gute more than one season with minimal cap space to fix this roster!

-1 points
1
2
Oppy's picture

December 30, 2018 at 11:15 pm

I wasn't aware Nelson ever said that. I know packers fans and talking heads talk about it all the time because our WR's numbers generally don't raise eyebrows until around year 3, but I always figured that was a product of MM not giving WRs a ton a playing time until Rodgers felt he could "trust" them, more than the WR's just not grasping the offense.

as to playmakers:

Davante adams is a play maker. I'm a huge fan, have been since draft day.

Allison was a playmaker while healthy (even though most of Packers nation wants to discount him.) only 20 targets unfortunately, but a 15.2 YPC in 2018 with 2 TDs over 5 games.

MVS and EQ, both made big time plays. What they needed was more targets.

Davante adams had 170 targets.
MVS: 65.
EQ: 41.

Fun fact: Packers players account for (4) of the top 32 receivers in terms of YPC (This list includes ALL players- including guys who caught only one or two balls): Robert Tonyan (4 for 19.3), EQ (21 for 15.6), MVS (38 for 15.3) , and Geronimo (20 for 15.2).

Aaron Jones, big play maker.
Jamaal Williams makes plays, too.
In fact, Packers were #2 in the league in Yards per Rushing attempt.
However, they were DEAD LAST in the league in RUSHING ATTEMPTS.
Unacceptable.. and I have a feeling a lot of that falls on the QB checking out of runs- but that's just my opinion. None the less.. Run game = PLAY MAKERS.

Please don't talk about lack of play makers. The Packers have plenty of guys to move the chains and make big plays. Aaron Rodgers does less with more than any other top tier QB in the league.

I don’t know about all that. Cobb was gone half the season and he is a descending player, Graham didn’t do what we thought . The rest of the WRs are late round pics...all new. 3 late round picks doesn’t replace what Jordy was in the past or even what Cobb was in the past. That just left a very good Adams and a almost washed up Jimmy Graham for him to throw to. The running game is good at times but not enough to carry the offense. Rodgers earned every penny this year. Not having a functional Oline , No name WRs besides Adams. And questionable play calling all played a role.

If they would have "tanked it" on purpose by playing Kizer off the bat like many of the smart people here wanted, that's one thing but they didn't tank. No, in fact Aaron Rodgers started this game, tried like hell to win it and still got killed. You talk about "momentum" and "carry over", hell yeah, this game will definitely carry over into next season in so many negative ways. People wanted Aaron to start the last two games against two bad teams. I remember asking someone, "what happens if Rodgers plays like shit, gets injured and they lose". Dash,

I said that we had Rodgers locked up under contract for 2 years and could franchise him for 2 more. I said we shouldn't ever pay a player based off past deeds and that Rodgers looked like he lost a step against Carolina. We should let him play and pay him based off of current and future potential. I got chastised on CHTV with a ton of dislikes thrown my way.

I had wished then that I was wrong and that Rodgers would come roaring back. I really hoped 2018 would be Rodgers to Graham with a chip on his shoulder. That Pettine would come in and shape up the Packer defense. That the Packers would use more 2 TE packages and feature Adams and Jones more.

As a fan I am still just as hopeful for 2019 as I was for 2018. I still want Rodgers to come roaring back in 2019 with a chip on his shoulder. I still want Jones and Adams to be the focus of our offense. Rodgers can't handle the burden of carrying the Packers and doesn't have to. He needs to use his supporting cast better in 2019 or the Packers need to start moving on. I hope a new HC/OC can accomplish that and that 2019 is a fantastic year for the Packers as an organization and for us as fans. It starts with Gute and the offseason. As always GO PACK GO!

I agreed with you on Rodgers and got the same dislikes. It was a mistake. It also hurt MM. MM lost his control over him. I said it was a mistake to fire MM for this season. It was demolition by the press, and people wanted change. This roster changed from the start of the season. They didn't care if they won. Rodgers was to blame! I said Rodgers is a china Doll now. Sunday again proved it. The reasoning is gone. Their in a rebuild. Not one Wrs stood out Sunday. They collected their salary and said next year.

MVS stood out for me on Sunday. He is still raw but he had his moments. If Kizer connected with him on the deep ball I think it would have been more eye opening stockholder. ESB has flashed and had some amazing catches. Adams has been borderline unstoppable. I still have faith in Moore unlike the rest of the Packer unfaithful who is screaming to cut him the same way they screamed for Fackrel's head in 2017 offseason. People are impatient and short sighted and then blame TT when players are cut and blossom with other teams.

Ok, But lets not judge everyone on D.Adams. St Brown was breaking out. MVs is not Randy Moss. Do you keep the defense intact? > And draft offense. I think cheesehead could do a How to improve the offense just using this draft. To fix this offense. Cut Cobb. Trade Down. Pick#1 Greg Little is your next top OL. Pick #2 Noah TE { 2nd rd. } Pick #3 Dalton Risner Pick #4 Damian Harris RB 3rd Paris CampbellWr to replace Cobb! 4th Isiah Prince Rt 4th Chris Lindstrom 5th Alex Bars 6. Deontae Crumitie , Matt Gay K 7. Patrick Laird Rb. The trade down brings a second #2. Or Fix the defense. - Replace CM3 - Montez Sweat, Replace Wilkerson- Simmons, Replace Perry - Jaylon Ferguson Replace Morrison - Tevon Coney, Replace Dix, Taylor Rapp S , Khaleke Hudson S////// or get Crazy.///// Resign CM3, keep Perry, Trade up for Oliver, Draft Simmons in first. #2 Draft Tevon Coney LB, #3 Paris Campbell WR #4? It was more of PR move to save Rodgers from embarrassment so people like Reefer can go into the offseason and say, "he played bad because he had a concussion on the second play" and simply brush off what their eyes were actually seeing out there.

"Explain to me again why Aaron Rodgers played in this game?"

Explain to me why he played in last weeks game?

Maybe because a bunch of thin skinned fans would be horriblely offended if they retreated (to a better draft position) once eliminated from the playoffs.

Maybe because the season ticket office would be flooded with complaints over 160$ a piece tickets that now had no value.

Maybe because Rodgers wanted Philbin to stay HC and knew they needed to win for a chance at that.

I'm going to guess all the meaningless game people never played a whole lot of football. Some of us did. He played because he was supposed to. Because a win in this game would have meant a whole lot more to this team going forward than 5 positions in next years draft. If Aaron said, "no thanks guys, I'm going to sit this one out, it's meaningless", the we're taking a QB in round one and trading Rodgers crowd would have (rightfully) unloaded on the guy. Momentum is a real thing, even going into next year. So is learning how to win. There is no such thing as a meaningless game in the NFL.

Oh come on Nick. We all knew how thin this team was at the beginning of the season. There are no secrets in pro football team wise. Even an average injury season would wreck this team. And the Packers as we all know, do not have average injury seasons. What none of us could know, was how bad the relationship between Rodgers and McCarthy had become, or how Murphy's interference in the front office hurt player personal. Just as success has many fathers, so does failure. Only difference is no one comes forward to claim responsibility.

Speak for yourself. I'm sure back in August, the majority on here believed we'd win a division title and wrote off last season without Rodgers. The early part of our schedule looked us to at least be 5-1, if not 6-0.

This season opened our eyes to how thin the roster really is, but if you predicted we'd play like this and have a record like this, then good for you, but I have a hard time believing that.

They had to replace the entire secondary in a passing league Rossonero. Their O line was flaming garbage at the end of last season. Beyond their starters/core players they had nothing, NOTHING. (Josh Hawkins anyone) Just to be clear, I thought that if this team could stay healthy that the Packers would be in the playoff hunt. I made that very clear at the beginning and maintained that throughout this season. But I was very clear that there was a severe drop off in talent on this team, and it would bite the Packers in the end. Heck, Pettine deserves to be retained on holding that defense together since the Lions game with spit and duct tape alone. No football team takes the massive wave of injuries the Packers had over the past three years, and comes out intact. It broke McCarthy and fractured his staff last year. That was first thing he remarked about at his first press conference this year. So yes, if you did not understand how thin this team was in the 52, then there is nothing I can say.

If the O line was so bad, then why did Gute only spend a 5th rd pick on it? Why didn't he sign any notable free agents? Obviously the front office felt a lot differently than you about it.

As for the secondary, I agree that was a makeover, but if anything, it suddenly became a strength with depth, not a weakness (Williams, Alexander, Jackson, Breeland).

Look, I know we didn't have great depth going into 2018 either, but I figured:

A) Rodgers would return to his true form to compensate for holes on the roster.
B) The undrafted FAs on the O-line would be solid, but not liabilities.
C) the secondary would actually have depth given the draft picks, FA signings and return of Kevin King.

Good point Nick Perry! The fact that the Packers fold like a card table when Aaron Rodgers gets hurt is a clear reflection of how poor the coaching staff is and the lack of passion this team displays! The Packers are soft and this has been their reputation for most of the Mike McCarthy era! It's time for a top to bottom house cleaning. Ted Thompson should have hired Sean Peyton in 2005 instead of Mash Potato Mike. I'm almost positive he would have had won at least two SB championships and maybe more!

I doubt Rodgers was hurt, just playing the Trump game! He faked it just wanted out, but just wanted to start! I think Rodgers career is done kaput. And Kizer is no better than Hundley was, Never even gave Boyle a look see. Never made sense to jettison McCarthy that was all Rodgers doing, you just see the way he played, protect his legacy with throwaways but made sure McCarthy looked bad! Will get thumbs down but is what I believe and feel happened!

“Play Kizer” they said
“Let’s see what he has to offer” they said
“It’ll be fun” they said
Now we can kill all that Kizer talk he’s trash a walking turnover machine and nothing he has on the field we should want to see.

The fact that we haven't had a legit back-up QB since Matt Flynn (and he was signed off the street as an emergency) is a testament to the incredible stupidity and incompetence of the front office.

I wanted to see Kizer and I'm glad it happened. He looks less lost than Hundley but certainly no heir apparent. I would have liked to see him start last week also, then we could have seen Boyle this week - at least half the game.

So now it will be interesting to see what Gute does about the backup qb since Kizer was his choice.

As fate would have it, it was Rodgers and Kizer that were exposed by shining the light on both in a very meaningless game against a very bad Lions team. Both failed but it's a win for Boyle. Rodgers will be the starter as we have no choice. Kizer is probably gone after that performance and Boyle now moves up to no. 2 next season and is one Rodgers nervous breakdown away from being the starter. Even better news? That's a great thing. Boyle is a future superstar.

Are we getting a new GM? I expect Boyle to be on the bubble, same as he would have been had MM returned for 2019. We have no real notion of how he is doing in practice.

Boyle is the QB they should have playing out there today. He’s the next QB for the Packers if they are smart. Kizer is only there because he came over in the Randall trade and so Gute has to play him to try and save face.

1. Embarrassed to be a Packer fan today. This team looks like a dumpster fire.

2. This team had their cars warmed up by halftime, if not earlier. What a joke of a performance.

3. Deshon Kizer still sucks. Between the season opener and now, is it possible he has a negative overall QBR?

4. Packers coaching staff asleep at the wheel during the fake FG. If someone is lining up outside like that, call a FREAKING timeout!

5. Joe Philbin's utility belt looks like he just got off the set of Home Improvement.

6. It took Ted Thompson's last FIVE years of bad drafting and no free agency involvement to dig this hole. Look around. See how high up we have to climb? It'll take at least 2 more years to dig out of this mess.

7. Over a dozen missed tackles today, yet all i ever heard from McCarthy and his cronies is droning on and on about fundamentals.

8. This cancels out any positive feeling from the Jets win (who New England destroyed today).

9. I still want Pettine as DC, but am resigned to the fact that probably everyone will be gone.

10. Special farewell to Cobb and Matthews. Thanks for the memories.

You can't judge much of anything by today's loss with all the subs. But there are a few things:

You can say the Kizer's accuracy dissappoints.
And I couldn't believe that once again with 3rd and short they go deep.
And Graham is just a shadow of his old self.
And finally, drops by rookie WR's - very dissappointing.

Philbin is not the answer. If he is, I predict Murphy will be out of a job next year.
I hope Pettine is back.
Pretty sure Zook already shipped his belongings somewhere warm.
I hope AR has a good shrink.

That's just it, the subs-- we have no depth. Every team gets injuries, but had Rodgers dragged this team to a wildcard birth, we'd get waxed.

In other words, we can assess the state of the team...we are in a crisis.

This game confirmed two things: First, Kizer is awful and should be chucked with Zook today and second even with Pettine this defense cannot stop molasses going up a hill. I’m afraid that it maybe a long, long, long, long, long road back. Thanks, Since ‘61

All I needed to see was Rodgers on 3rd down, holding the ball under duress, scrambling around behind the LOS near his own goal line, the RB (who was in on protection) leaks out to the left perimeter about 3-4 yards deep, no one within 5 yards of him. Rodgers looks right at him, waves at him like he should be running a fly route (wtf?) and then turns away from him, scurries out of the pocket to his right, and eventually throws the ball away.

Pardon my french, but WHAT THE FUCK, RODGERS? get rid of the ball.

Sure, he had a concussion. Whatever helps everyone sleep at night. If that helmet coming off resulted in a concussion, we got real problems with the QB we just signed to a historic deal.

reefkeeper, you keep saying that? Oppy's going to be just fine I assure you. You on the other hand?

Well said Oppy. That 15 second OCD episode of Rodgers was very concerning. The back was open and he did the same damn thing holding the ball and throwing it away. Insanity. I don't see this part of his game improving. He's getting progressively worse. Throwaway rate increases next season to historic levels. Reefkeeper says it's going to be fun to watch.

Throw away rate was already historic. Last I saw the numbers, he was on pace to almost double Philip Rivers' epic throw away rate which was by far the highest seen since throw aways were tracked by profootballfocus.

As of week 7, Rodgers had 32 throw aways, on pace for 73 by the end of the season. They mention that number would match the total number of throw aways Ben Roethlisberger has had.. since 2012.

I had the exact same reaction to that play. Rodgers had an easy first down to Williams with a wide receiver shadowing the linebacker to block out a lane for Williams to advance. Of course Rodgers then makes the inevitable bad decision. Throws it away. Punt.

He also had Kumrow on the slant. Even Kizer knew how to throw underneath and actually drove the team to a few first downs. It puzzled me all season why Rogers was not taking what the D gave.

Rodgers last resort is throwing the slant, because it's over the middle of the field, and that's where picks are most likely to occur.. so the middle of the field has been all but eliminated from his throwing portfolio. People have graphed this over the last 6 years or so. Its not hyperbole. Rodgers is phobic of the middle of the field.

I understand the Packers wanted to get a good look at Kizer, but does anyone else think it may have been a more accurate glimpse at where he's at if the Packers would have kept a decent run-pass ratio instead of just hurling the ball every single down?

Detroit just pinned their ears back and played the pass the entire game.

Did Rodgers throw away(pun intended) the game plan for Detroit. With most of the O line as backups, I thought we see more runs from the get go. But how many RPOs did Rodgers check out of. My guess is all of them. That's insane by any standard. Why make yourself a target like that? Mad bomber indeed......

Rodgers didn't play enough to know one way or the other. He got 9 total snaps and may have had a concussion for 7 of them.

He's earned plenty of criticism this year. But not for the last 2 weeks. Last week he was outstanding. This week is inconclusive.

His last two weeks of football were much improved over the entirety of the season, no question.

Still some bad throws here and there, still a few guys he should have thrown to and didn't, but overall, his last two performances were much more "Rodgers-Like" than all the rest of 2018.

But today? Sure, limited snaps. But those limited snaps looked like the rest of 2018, not the last two weeks.

I would have liked to get a good look at Kizer and Boyle. That means the staff makes a game plan specifically for Kizer with some plays specifically for Boyle as well. Oh well, the difference in style between AR and Kizer is not as great as the difference between AR and Hundley.

It seems Philbin could have set himself apart for the good in the running for head coach by showing the independence to not play Aaron Rodgers in this game. He could have talked privately with Rodgers beforehand to get him to go along with the decision -- but then
made the decision regardless of Rodgers' reaction.
Working with Rodgers, but also standing up to Rodgers, are two of the main ingredients we need in our next head coach. That may be quite a delicate balance, and quite a challenge.

Of course I was being sarcastic. I laid out all the "reasons" the dummies said for playing him in one post. I thought most would pick up on it. Hell no I didn't want Rodgers playing in the last two games. I wanted them to play Kizer and especially Boyle and get them playing time while still hoping we would lose. Now we played Rodgers, got a concussion and still lost the game. That's called an epic disaster for next season. This is the "carry over" and "momentum" all these people hoped for. They never thought Rodgers would lose. That was their downfall in thinking. We lost big time today.
