Gut Reactions: Cardinals 20 Packers 17

  • Mike McCarthy won't be fired today, tomorrow or any time prior to the end of the season. But he should be.
  • There were fans who thought this team could win five games in a row. lol
  • Aaron Rodgers is getting paid a lot of money to play really pedestrian football.
  • As a running back, Jamaal Williams is a great pass protector.
  • Throwing to 80 year old Jimmy Graham 10 yards shorts of the sticks on 3rd down. Hot.
  • Third week in a row Aaron Rodgers has put a late crucial 3rd down throw into the ground.
  • Kenny Clark was held all day.
  • There are shockingly few playmakers on this team.
  • Nothing pisses me off more than meaningless Packers football in December, but here we are. A month of garbage awaits.
  • Jaire Alexander looked good on punt return. Pity it took the Packers until December to put him back there.
  • Ron Zook still being employed proves that miracles still happen.
  • Nice job by Lowry splitting the guard and tackle for his sack.
  • Aaron Jones wasn't even on the field for the final drive. You know, one of the few guys who could actually make something happen with the ball in his hands.
  • Of course, that would require McCarthy and Rodgers making an effort to get the ball in his hands.
  • Said it last week, will say it this week, and every week until the season is over: Blow it all up.
  • I need a beer.

. Wow, we are worse than I thought . Actually, at this point, it could be argued that we are one of the worst 5 teams in the league and we have Rodgers

. This is right up there with one of the worst losses in the last 30 years. The terrible Cardinals at home, embarrassing

. Our offense is horrific and Rodgers is basically healthy...... very concerning

. Our record with Hundley last year is very similar to our record with Rodgers this year from a winning percentage standpoint.....sickening

. I thought this team needed a retooling, but now I'm convinced it needs a rebuilding to get the Ted Thompson stench off it. We have 10-12 players that are keepers out of 53, the rest can be jettisoned

. Need to beef up the O-line , rebuild the OLB position, need Safeties, another MLB next to Martinez who can play 3 downs and cover. Another stud D-lineman. A fast TE who can block and catch. Better WRs,although there's hope for the youngsters, we still need another elite WR to go with Adams. Another good RB to replace Williams

. We need a new head coach

. I hope we lose the rest of our games except for the Bears game. We need to be picking in the top 10 of every round in next years draft

. My stomach hurts.

. I'm going to start a stamp collection as I'll need something to do while the Packers are trying to play football for the rest of this year.

. Signing off now, I need to go to the Liquor store

Do you realize Dan when describing the needs for next year you hit on nearly every group except QB, kicker and corner. Unfortunately, I agree although I'd throw in kicker too.

If the QB plays like the guy wore #12 before this year, the overall talent outlook takes an entirely different perspective. No doubt the team lacks the talent to carry a poor performance from their QB. But that's not how this team is set up. It is set up to get outstanding QB play.

You're right; it's been this way for too long and has to change. The Packers can't win ugly, and can rarely count to their special teams or defense to do something out of the ordinary to win a game. If the QB is off, they're doomed--even against a pathetic team who hates to come east and play in the cold.

It would be nice if they could build a great defense and ST, for sure. But this year is far different than years gone by. This year it is the offensive failures that are holding the team back.

The guys that get the big $$ get the big blame or the big credit. I'm not going to get bent out of shape over the dropped int by a minimum wage rookie that could have bailed out the poor performance of the highest paid player in the game. That equation tilts the other way with me. The highest paid player in the game should have played well enough that the dropped pick didn't matter.

I'm desperately hoping that Rodgers has some sort of arm injury or ligament issue in this throwing arm. How can you clock the ball on a 3rd and whatever? Probably wishful thinking on my end but the way things are rolling out, I've gotta find hope wherever it's found.

It is concerning how many player requirements we have. You list them well. However, recognising that 1 draft cannot solve everything, I think we should go to FA for a quality WR and FS. That allows us to take two pass rushers in rd1, a RT in Rd2 and a CB in rd3 (KK and JA are great but we have to plan they will be injured 30%). ILB is a requirement, (perhaps CM3 if major pay cut) as it will release OB to SS. Our two 4th rd picks are actually v valuable as we can potentially pick up a TE (deep draft class if they all declare) and or RB pending what is on the board. A real concern, regardless of what you think of Graham, Kendricks, Lewis is that TE inclusion in the pass game has been like an after thought. The teams winning are those that use their TEs

I have refrained from saying much recently preferring to see how things developed when the chips were down. Well now I have.

What we saw today was abysmal. Ultimately I place the root of this on Ted Thompson and Russ Ball’s mishandling of the roster over the prior 4 years or so.

That said, the lack of adaptation or development in using the available pieces, raw though many are, over the season has been startling. We are simply treading water.

For that reason I think we should draw a line. I have always felt Mike McCarthy is a good coach. He may be again somewhere, but he is no longer currently in Green Bay. It is time to move on. Personally, I would prefer that we do so now and begin identifying his replacement while stirring up the game planning. Let’s give players like Kumerow and Tonyan a chance to show if they belong and begin preparing for the future this week. The next opportunity is next year.

Having said MM should be let go now, I emphasize that the fault truly resides with Mark Murphy. Replacing McCarthy alone would be to allow those who oversaw the decline a free pass. Gute aside, the rest of the big 4 all deserve to be cleared out.

Let’s really start afresh.

Its hard to get angry when you expect it each week now. Just resigned to this sort of performance until the season's end. McCarthy should be gone now, though he won't be. This game was a microcosm of the season as a whole.

There's just not enough good players or depth to this roster. If not a complete rebuild, then a significant overhaul is needed. Gute first draft was promising but he had/has way too many needs to fill.

Rodgers, Adams, Jones, Bakh, Linsley and the rookies are about the only players worth keeping. On defense, the rookies with Clark, Daniels, Martinez and maybe Lowry and Fackrell as depth. Special teams is a garbage fire. Crosby has cost us at least 3 games this season.

I'm annoyed but not angry anymore. Last week was the killer, this was just confirmation. This is a bad football team right now and needs alot of work.

With the 10th overall pick as things stand right now, the 4-7-1 Packers have 3 games remaining against teams below them in the standings. That's 3 opportunities to hand out a win that positions them for a better draft choice. They can give the Lions and Falcons their 5th win. They'll need some help to limbo under the 3-8 Jets. They may be getting that help right now as the Jets lead Tennessee 16-6 at the half.

Pathetic! Done!! Wait 'til next year!!!

Fire all the coaches including Pettine.
First his defense gives up an easy TD after the Packers take the lead in the first half.
Then we tie the game at 17 and his defense lets the Cards go down the field with no problem to kick the go ahead FG. Terrible Job. Capers could not do any worse.

As for the players, keep Rodgers, A. Jones, Bak, D. Adams and Linsley and maybe Tonyan on offense.
On defense keep Clark, Daniels, Alexander, King and Martinez.
STs keep Scott.

Chuck everybody else and start over.

Terrible job at all levels. Management, coaches and players. No excuses. Unacceptable preparation and effort all season. I'm afraid that the 70s and 80s have returned sooner than I expected. Let the coaching carousel begin. Thanks, Since '61

If Murphy hires the Right Head Coach?? Are you kidding me?? Do you have any idea what his record was at Northwestern??? 3 & 300. This is the guy you want running GB?? Fire the (HEAD GUY) who's still running things from inside the building. Then Fire Murphy, Then Fire Philbin so Miami can stop laughing their Ass Off at us. Fire Pettine. What did he ever do to deserve the job at GB. Any DC who would even consider giving Tramon Williams a uniform is completely Brainless.
You fire McCarthy for today's loss. What about our Great Clutch Kicker Crosby?? The Worst GB kicker in my lifetime. The only reason he has the points he has is because he had 2 HOF Qb's that got him down to the10 yd line, or scored a ton of TD's. He should have been gone 10 years ago. He's Garbage. Get rid of Mathews, Bulaga, Cobb, of coarse Williams. Fire who ever made the decision to let Jarred Cook go, for that BIGOT Bennet. The only thing missing from this team is A.J. Hawk. Pay Mathews $50 Million over the past 3 years?? What a Joke. Bulaga has made More on the sideline than on the field. Cobb was finished 2 years ago, & 5'7" Williams never was any good. Crosby's the biggest joke next to Hawk. He's hit more Goal Posts than any other kicker in NFL History. Now you get to AR or McCarthy? AR is strapped together with Nuts & Bolts. Who's idea was it to pay him $130 Million?? Fire that guy, then start thinking about firing McCarthy.
Things are still the same out here, but clearly need changing in GB. Can't you guy's see whats going on?? Maybe McCarthy needs a new home, but at least start with the (HEAD GUY), he's the guy that is responcible for what GB is today. Murphy's a joke, so is Philbin, & Pettine. I actually laughed when Crosby missed that FG. I hope some of you did too.

Keep Rodgers? UGH.
Sorry, I'm with Dash.

Horrible performance from the team but especially from AROD, the $134 million QB. We are now dead last in the league in key passing categories! And 5 yard short throws into the dirt have zilch to do with receiving talent.

While AROD enjoys a portion of his fully guaranteed $78million, it's time to play Kizer and Boyle over next few games and see how bad or well each executes the plays MM calls.

SIT THE STARTERS and especially QB1.

Sure, you could sit the starters, but you can't evaluate backups if they're getting their asses handed to them by starters on the other side of the ball. It's self defeating. Get your backups snaps with #1s and see what they can do when they're playing with those guys (I was going to say "starting quality talent", but I gagged on that a little after today's effort).

Thanks Packergal. Let's do this today. Call Oakland and get Derek Carr, 3 no. 1 picks and 2 2nd round picks for Aaron Rodgers. We get something to look forward too instead of looking back at our past and hoping that past has a few more years left (it doesn't). I don't honestly care what coach we have or get. It's all about having a young stud qb. With all the future high picks from Rodgers we have that opportunity. Remember everyone, Aaron Rodgers was totally healthy today and he couldn't beat a rookie 1st round qb at home in the snow and cold of Lambeau. It's time again to get another young Aaron Rodgers. If we don't we continue to sink to the bottom of the pit of misery.

Dude, you're upset and blaming Pettine and the defense? Now that's hilarious.

You just witnessed an NFL offense that is supposedly coached by an offensive genius HC and a future HOF QB in his prime that was only able to score 17 points at home against one of the worst defenses in the NFL. Yet you're upset about the defense. That might be the funniest thing I've ever read on this blog.

In the modern NFL, with updated rules that favor offense, when a defense holds an opponent to 20 points or less.....that's considered good.

Yes, in this era the offense should score more than 17 points but to do that you need a good OL not a porous OL like the Packers have. You also need to have more than one NFL receiver and the Packers don't. Also, one decent RB won't get it either.

As for the defense holding an opponent under 20 points is good but sometimes you need the defense to make a stop and get the ball back especially during the 4th quarter. It's not a matter of blaming the offense or defense it's a matter of the team is just not very good. That's the point here. Thanks, Since '61

Mike McCarthy should've relieved of his duties NOW so the Packers are in a position to hire the very best HC they can on December 31st.

This is a BAD football team. I'm thinking it's not talented as we thought about 13 weeks ago.

What in the hell has happened to Aaron Rodgers? He can't hit a long pass if his life depended on it.

WHY can't McCarthy just STICK with Aaron Jones. Everytime Williams is in the game it feels like I'm watching slow motion.

Hopefully now those of you who were still thinking playoffs can let that notion go now. The Green Bay Packers just lost to one of the 3 worst football teams in the NFL. Jezzz...What does that make the Packers?

The $32 mil cap hit for trading Rodgers does not work in any way, shape, manner or form. It's pure fantasy to discuss. The only option is to get his game back on track for 2019.

Carr would be the ideal qb to team up with these young receivers. He would get reunited with his college teammate Davante Adams. It would be a match made in heaven. Carr to Adams, just think about that combo for the next 5 to 7 years. Aaron Rodgers simply doesn't fit here because he's effin old now. We need to move this guy at all costs. Hell I would take Carr for Rodgers straight up at this point. The Packers would win the deal on that alone. People are overrating Rodgers big time. His play is slipping. We all see it this year and it's not going to get better as he gets older. The right collarbone injury has affected his strength and accuracy. We need a young qb. He's officially John Hadl 2.0. Trade him to some sucker team like the Raiders. They gave up two number ones for Carson Palmer a few years ago. They are our best option.

And why would the Raiders ever do such a stupid deal? Trade for an overpaid, underperforming QB and give up a decent young QB on his rookie contract and two first rounders. I would take that deal all day as long I am the guy getting the young QB and two first rounders. Oakland would have to be nuts since Rodgers will not overcome all the holes the Raiders have to fill.

Try to find a real trading partner, like Jacksonville, that has an outstanding roster and a sub par QB and you might be able to get a deal done. However that would leave GB without a starting QB...…..

Gruden not a fan of Carr. He does love veteran QBs, but the cap hit situation doesn’t sound good in any case.

Don't know which coach is going to be able to handle Rodgers. Gruden probably could. Bruce Arians might be one.

Carr would bring a $20 mil cap hit. With the $46 mil cap hit they would take to square the signing bonus they gave Rodgers last year, that's a tidy $66 mil in cap space. Rodgers is set to count for $26 mil in cap space next year. So there goes $40 mil that could be used on adding help elsewhere.

"And why would the Raiders ever do such a stupid deal?"

I agree Guam, why would they do that. Why the hell would anyone do that. Here's the thing though. The Raiders have a history of making stupid decisions for qb's. Actually so does Green Bay but the only reason they would do that is because of money. They are moving to Las Vegas and they need fans and excitement for their new franchise. Carr is not a celebrity draw that Vegas would be excited about. Aaron Rodgers on the other hand with his name recognition and celebrity status dating all these Hollywood type women is the perfect guy for that town. John Gruden loves him as well. I actually think this is more realistic of happening than most. The way they cut ties with MM like Dungy said was cruel and disrespectful. If the Packers can treat MM like that, they can certainly trade Aaron Rodgers as well.

It's related to coaching, but we also have a talent deficit. Like Shanghai, I was one of the folks who thought this would be a rebuilding year and we would be better in 2019. Now I am not sure about 2019 as this team has lots of holes.

Move #1 is to fix the organizational structure and put Gute in charge. Move#2 is to change the coaching staff. Move #3 is to acquire some talent via free agency. Move #4 is to draft more talent. We will need all four to win next year.

Not one veteran earned their salary this year besides Adams and Bahk. The safety play was Horrible. I see only one way MM can save his job. Fire all his staff again. I thought we had the best OL coach in the NFL. The best ex coaches in Moss and Pettine. The best secondary coach. Etc. The good news is we get a better draft pick. The bad news is nobody is going to come to GreenBay and turn this around.

The Questions are still there. The only person that has the answers is Gute now. The administration kept TT for his knowledge and advice. The failures have been as follows. 1. Murphy 2. A-rod and the contract extension. 3. I was a Wolf supporter not Gute. 4. The end result was the sabotage of this team dating back to 2014. And TT should have resigned after the draft. ( instead of looking over everyones shoulder.) MM has done everything he could do. YOU CAN'T GET PLAYERS TO GET ON BOARD WHEN THEY JUST DON'T HAVE IT ANYMORE.

I'm thinking the Bears will turn out to be a popcorn fart. K Mack didn't tilt the field enough today to stop the Giants from hanging 30 points on them, and what they gave up for him will come home to roost soon enough.

The Packers are in dire straights, for sure. Things change quickly in the NFL. Remember the dynasty in Philly after the Super Bowl last year? And the Viking defense that would yield titles for years to come? Matty Ice and the high-powered unstoppable Falcons? The unstoppable Michael Vick? We'll be back. It's going to be ugly for a bit, but we'll be back.

I'm with you, wagszilla, as far as winning the 2020/21 Super Bowl -- sincerely.
I'm hoping Crosby is our kicker, and Rodgers our quarterback.
Let's not give up on Rodgers too quickly, after all the greatness over all the years.
What I'd do with our QB is fire his head coach tomorrow. See if he plays enthusiastically and seriously for the next four games. Find out if he wants to stay, and whether he is willing to be coached.
Let's support Rodgers big time if he wants to make it work with the Packers. I realize we're all feeling sick right now, but let's not react too hastily.
With Rodgers, we could win that Super Bowl in a couple of years.

I think a mention about the 5 or 6 drops. Firing looked bad. Can Rodgers even make a screen throw? Extremely overrated team over summer - once seeing the team play in September the writing was on the wall. But we eternal optimist fans just didn't want the fun to end. Packers can probably pick up $40M in cap by simply cutting perry, Matthews, Cobb, crosby, and Graham and easily replace their production with ANYONE really. Then add a new coach armed with 2 first round picks AND a good QB and suddenly there is hope for next season. This is the only thing left to root for

Rodgers improved his fundamentals today (didn't needlessly scramble out of the pocket as much, set his feet and stepped into more throws than he has most of the season, despite AR's claims he has no problems with fundamentals), but his accuracy was still sub-par on many throws. The EQ drop on the opening drive was an example of a play where, despite no pressing pressure forcing him to throw while on the run, he didn't set his feet and he threw the ball somewhat off balance without squaring up or stepping into it. The result was a throw that was behind and to the inside of EQ- who had a sea of green ahead of him and no defender between him and the sideline. Don't get me wrong, EQ needs to make that catch. But Rodgers put the ball in the worst possible place, forcing EQ to turn around and nearly stop to grab the ball, and it was put between the WR and the defender, instead of towards the sideline, where the defender would have had to fight through the WR to make a play at it. These are the types of accuracy issues we've seen from AR all season long.

Packers should make every attempt to trade away Rodgers contract for picks and hire a new HC for next season. Any more seasons spent with either AR or MM are wasted seasons. Time to build for the future. Hopefully a future where the Packers aren't defined by diva QB play.

Just from observing Rodgers this season (poor mechanics / fundamentals, bitchy attitude / body language) it seems he's deliberately trying to undermine McCarthy to have him fired. And you think he isn't a diva?
This type of attitude from Rodgers presents as completely unprofessional. This team is devoid of any leadership on offence, and you'd think a 13 year veteran would be rallying the troops, but he is too focused on his personal vendetta against the coach.
I think McCarthy's time is up in GB and have no problem if he is let go. But the teams struggles this season are more of an indictment on Rodgers than anything else.
So basically, it's Rodgers pissing away his own career, not the "MCarthy is wasting Rodgers prime" narrative that is perpetuated.

I definitely think Aaron Rodgers is a diva, and no, I won't "take it back."

I watched Rodgers as he acted deeply hurt, offended, and dejected when a fan at a charity event shook his hand an innocently said to Rodgers, "You're not as tall as I thought you'd be", refusing to look the fan in the eye and telling him, "I don't appreciate that, I don't appreciate that at all".

Years ago guys like Donald Driver, Greg Jennings, and Jermichael Finley tried to tell us about it. We either ignored them or called it sour grapes.

Others in the Packers locker room tip toed around Rodgers' thin skin and need for things to be "just so". They said he was 'Quirky' and changed the subject.

Lastly, I've watched as Rodgers throws his team mates under the bus in post game pressers when things get choppy over the last few seasons. He uses selective language and hints at, but stops short of directly laying blame, at his HC, seemingly so he can say "I never said that", while gladly allowing him to fall on the sword.

Yes, I think Aaron Rodgers is a DIVA. What a shame. Most physically talented QB in the league. Such a mind for the game. And yet, it seems to me he has allowed all the hype to create a run-away ego that is actively hindering his ability to be the BEST qb in the league.

What we have now is a guy with a pretty stat sheet who still manages to hurt his team on Sunday.

I wish I was so far out of left field with all of this, but we're starting to see articles being written by respected writers published by major national sports outlets that are collaborating what I've feared may be the case over the last many years.

Nagler is right. Blow it up. Start Fresh. This thing isn't getting fixed in the next five years. Cut bait and build for the future. Rodgers needs the ego check, and MM is no longer effective in GB. Packers will be here long after both of them have passed.

I've got an almost 3,000 comment history here at CHTV (and a good number archived over at Jersey Al's all green bay packers site, RIP) that clearly show i have supported Aaron Rodgers throughout the great majority of his career.

I have been losing my faith in Aaron Rodger's day-to-day play slowly over the last four years due to objectively analyzing his play on the field and subjectively weighing his words and actions off the field.

I am now to the point I believe the scales have tipped from Rodgers' presence on the Packers being a net positive to a net neutral or negative. Simply put, I believe the Packers would have won more games in 2018 with an average QB that executes the offense as designed, as opposed to the performances put on by Rodgers in 2018, where he often refused to take what the defense was giving to the 2nd or 3rd read or checkdown, where he held the ball too long looking for a big play to Davante as opposed to perhaps hitting an open rookie or RB underneath, and simply moving the chains. Where he neglects the middle of the field. Where, apparently, there is a pissing match where the HC calls a play into the huddle, and a different play gets ran at the LOS, continually, throughout a game.

People point to Rodgers come-from behind wins this year, saying he's the only reason we won those games. I look at those games and see 3+ quarters of sub-par play from the QB position, and say, maybe we wouldn't have been behind at all had the QB played better or more consistently through the majority of the game.

Rodgers is insanely talented, or maybe, he just was at one time (he is getting to that age, who knows if this is an anomaly or a trend), but he is under performing, leaving drive-continuing plays on the field, and, in my opinion, has become a difficult ego to manage. He's 35 years old. I don't see the Packers getting to another SB with Rodgers or MM in the next 5 years. I also don't know if Rodgers body even holds up that long.

It is simply time to rebuild the entire organization for the next decade or more. I'd rather start now than later.

This whole season has been strange. (and not in a good way) We all knew that this years team was in a rebuilding mode. The only question was how long and who would do it. Leaving aside the HC, the Packer's single biggest issue is the mess made by Mark Murphy on the decision tree, and how long will it take to clean up. It is now up the executive committee to fix this mess. Either way, expect movement fairly quickly now. There is too much at stake for this organization not to do otherwise.

I cannot believe it took an actual hitting the bottom to make so many realize what wasn't in GB for so long.

The play, however outstanding, from one player each week, can not and should not ever allow the covering up of the lacking's on this team. We've seen players excel for a game and get praised while the team crumbled slowly but surely.

Perhaps when this season is over and necessary changes are made and correctly, I can join the many in their optimism and my reality may not seem so ' negative ' as has been the last few years deemed by others.

There's talent on this team to build with as long as the builder has a real strong plan to do so.

All Pro- Bahk, Clark, and I'll give you Adams. The rest, No. While your list does have merit. Just not enough, as the rest have missed playing Time
Chuck the following;
Spriggs- Yes
Graham-No- Honor the contract.
Bulaga- Yes, He's slow, and the money must be freed up
Bell- Yes
Cobb- Yes, Time off sealed his fate.
Tramon- No,
Lewis- yes,
Kendricks- yes Free the money up
Perry- Trade for anybody . (Oakland). Cut for cap. He's too far behind now.
Ryan- No he's better than Morrison
Peasant- Yes
Breeland- Maybe not. Depends on price tag. I would add Crosby. seems the packers should part ways with anybody close to their ex- union Rep. The money saved; is best used if they hit on the draft, and bring in a higher priced player for help. I think CM3 needs warmer weather. The packers won't match the numbers he'll get on the west coast.

Losing to a 2-9 Cardinals team at Lambeau in a game the Packers need is beyond pathetic. Paying Rodgers to lead this offense and getting these results is just not something this organization can allow for 5 more years! Trade him now for any draft picks you can get and or get out of his contract ASAP. Use all the money from Rodgers contract to build a great defense and play Boyle at QB as a game manager. Continuing this Rodgers lead offense in GB any more years is just insanity based on the results of anyone can plainly see watching these games.
Rodgers is way over paid and over rated at this point. Time to make the change to a new QB and rebuild the defense or it’s losing seasons year...after year...after year going forward. Just pathetic to watch this listless offense and Rodgers overthrowing every receiver downfield and his smiling laughing with the defenders after kissing passes each time! ENOUGH!!!

Pathetic=.No body will take Rodgers. He's damaged! Were stuck! Crosby- Put the nail in MM s coffin. The fan base may love these two. But nobody should ever trust either. When two players are so instrumental in getting a coach canned. It's time to question everything that is integrable about both of them. My new comparison is John Hadl. The packers won't be able to do anything about Rodgers soon. But Crosby is another matter.

Cool - could get a top ten draft pick. Use NO's pick and between the two of them get a QB . Rodgers money was a total waste and I said that months before the dumb contract was put forth and signed,. Because of that contract, the team is saddled for a very long time for no good reason.

Still have not watched a game since the kneeling garbage. College games are 100 times better, Way, way better.

On the plus side, we kept pace with the Browns.
McCarthy's biggest blunder was once again not giving enough plays to Aaron Jones. One would think that would be corrected by now.
Why not more Tonyan?
We could use more end-arounds, and maybe a screen pass here and there.
Don't blame Crosby. He's a pro. While this loss hurts a lot, let's not throw out everyone.
This is an opportunity to evaluate. Plus, it's still football. Let's enjoy the last four games -- if the Packers come to play. Guys should be motivated for the sake of their careers, and let's hope for the love of the game.
I'm hopeful we don't need an overhaul, and are back in the playoffs next year.
May as well let McCarthy go tomorrow, unless we can trade him to the Browns for one of their coaches.
Good to remember our head coach had a great run of eight straight in the playoffs -- including a Super Bowl, which is no small feat. My best to him!

I’m sorry man but that optimistic attitude is why they’re in this mess Crosby needs to be held accountable at this point as well you realize in 12 seasons he only has 4 seasons completing over 85% of his kicks? The guy has been pretty average for most of his career it’s time to light a fire under his ass and stop settling for average players.

It seems to me that Crosby has been clutch in his years with the Packers!
Making a 49-yarder in the cold is no easy feat. Neither Is finding a new kicker.
My only concern with Crosby is whether he publicly embarrassed his holder today. Guys shouldn't call out their teammates on the field. I hope Crosby was just talking about being fooled by the wind, or something like that.
Let's not lose all of our optimism!

I mean I’m not saying he should get the boot but he definitely needs some competition I’m pretty sure he’s like 78% in kicks this year which is awful! That’s 9 seasons under 85% which is terrible Crosby is good come playoffs but regular season kicks he just sucks.

1. another second half meltdown. MM getting fired can't come soon enough.

2. my granny could have intercepted the pass that Pleasant dropped to ice the game. nice pick up.

3. i'm wondering why Zook is still employed. every kickoff or punt gets a penalty weather on O or D.

4. I never thought I was see Rodgers play this lousy. his long passes are so far off, it doesn't matter how good or bad the coverage is.

5. Kumerow caught a third down pass and of course never saw the field again that I witnessed. probably saving him for next year.

6. MM must have decided that Jones should be yanked to get the dynamic Williams more carries.

7. MVS had a forgettable game.

8. Fackrell disappeared for the second straight game. those 3 sack games must wear has azz out.

9. Cobb was not a difference maker in this game. he and Perry can hit the road and play somewhere else for half a season.

I don’t even think this team can afford to package its picks to move up they need every single one of them its worse this year because they have sooooo many holes on all 3 phases of the game! I mean it’s time to light a fire under Crosby’s ass that guy has been crap this year! If I’m correct we still need an EGDE, Safety, RT, RG, WR, Kicker,TE, New HC, New SPTC, New OC BG has his plate full this team has so few playmakers it’s almost embarrassing take away Jones, Rodgers, Adams, Clark, Alexander, Daniels, JK, Martinez and you have nothing but crap.

Same old, same old from mashed potato Mike and AR. Where was Jones in the second half? And where was Rodgers all game long? Some of the worst play calling I have ever seen in a Packer game. And as Rodgers would say, piss poor execution. But remember everyone, AR is playing like he always has, according to his own observations. Bullshit!! The time has arrived for MM to get on with his life's work and get out of Green Bay. I hope the Packers can make it in the top 10 for the draft order now. Not much else to look forward to this year.

Now IR Rodgers (knee), Bakhtiari, & Bulaga.
Rest Clark a bunch.
Play Kumerow, MVS, EQ (If healthy), and JayMon Moore.

Save Aaron Jones for next year.

Use Josh Jones up 100% of every play. See if he can ever make a play.

Clutch kick by Crosby. That L might be the difference in drafting at the #11 spot & the #15 spot.

The 2011 Draft, JJ Watt was the #11 pick, Mike Pouncey #15.

Or 2014, when Aaron Donald was #13, Calvin Pryor #18.

Remember when we pick in April, this loss helped. Of course, Teddy would trade down anyway for 2 soft specimens like King & Biegel.

Rodgers is playing the position as a bottom tier NFL QB who the Packers are paying like a SB level elite QB. It’s all on his reputation at this point as his slide downhill is alarming and the results disasterous for this organization. You can see the miss throws each week with the results being very few TDs being scored.

If they do not find a way to move on from Rodgers as their QB the Packers will continue to be in the basement of the NFL the next five years. Kizer or Boyle had better be playing QB for GB the last four games of this disgraceful season to see what they might have to offer.

I cautioned u guys last year & this spring/summer that a rebuilt THROWING collar bone might NEVER be the same.

If u don't think "a little bit" off matters, for an NFL QB, then you're not paying attention.

One yard off has beem the difference between some huge plays, and an incompletion.
And a simple 3rd & short pass to the hands, and one into the turf or low by the shoes.

I completely agree Aaron, the season is over and like you said last week, anything they accomplish in the next weeks will be fools gold; but cheer up, we always have next year.

I still think they have a solid foundation with some of the young guys they have, they just need more experience; i agree that a new head coach could the solution, however i would be cautious in wanting to fire MM, simply because starting with a new coach is always difficult; we get amazed by teams like the Rams who were turned around by a new coach, but we tend to loose sight of all the teams that are currently struggling because of the new coach they hire at the start of the season, a new coach means new schemes, new plays, new everything; and presumably it takes time to settle with the team.

Anyways, hopefully Murphy will make a good decision whatever it may be.

I actually hope they don't win another game just for better draft picks...but then again, we have no idea what Gute will do with his choices. Everyone looks at his first draft and sings his praises, but anyone can get lucky once. I would be drafting the best offensive linemen I could get my hands on. Bahk and Lindsley are the only two to keep. Bolster those guys with one or two free agent linemen. Heard Tony Dungy last week say that when he was at Indy, all personnel decisions on the offense were centered around making Payton as productive as possible. Maybe a thought to consider for us.

As far as Gute's first draft, initially looked very good but as we go along maybe not so much. Alexander looks like a future star but number 2 Jackson has been grabbing and burnt an awful lot so far. #3 Burks can't get off blocks to save his life and rarely plays. #4 J'Mon Moore has hardly played at all either. #5 Madison a no show, Scott the punter OK and MVS pretty good start but too many drops. Same for ESB. LS Bradley seems shaky at times with Looney and Donnerson strictly projects.

This isn't a knock on the their draft, just an up to date assessment, Could be good in the future, but for now I'm not doing cartwheels.

Looking ahead, I feel uneasy about the prospect of Mark Murphy hiring the next head coach of the Packers. I hope that the final decision rests in Gutekunst’s hands.

In hindsight, it is obvious that Ted Thompson had serious health issues (Parkinson’s?) that caused his evaluation skills to deteriorate. Hence the poor drafts from 2014-17.

I remember Bob McGinn asking Thompson, in his annual sit-down interview with him, about a rumored health problem for which Thompson had sought the advice of a specialist in New York City. Thompson denied it, but I think BM was on to something. Surely others in the Packers organization must have suspected that something was wrong with him. Why was Mark Murphy caught flat-footed?

Pleasant should have had that easy INT.

But the 3rd and 23 play was a actually remarkable play by the Cardinals. Allen in full sprint heading toward the boundary throwing a dart to Fitzgerald who made an extremely difficult catch while going to the turf. The coverage was good and tight on Fitzgerald. Allen was flushed from the pocket and the pursuit of him was strong.

Just one of those things. I will say the 4th and 26 was a much more impactful play season wise.

1. Rodgers-- what Greg Jennings, Jermichael Finley and others have been saying for years is true. He's a difficult guy to coach and not earning his contract. Enough with the passive aggressive BS.

2. Whoever our new HC will be....better be someone Rodgers will listen to.

3. Crosby needs to go. Start over.

4. Pettine should stay. Anyone can see the defense is better despite a TON of injuries. We need some continuity.

As for Pettine, the defense, which looks like a MASH triage , is playing with guys that were stocking grocery shelves, selling real estate, or in college six months ago. Im going to give him a mulligan. AR is part of this problem too....he is badly coached, and they need to get a new OC and QB coach to bring him back into line. The poor drafts of the past have finally come back to haunt us. Looking forward to a better year next year, and some higher draft picks than we usually get....

Let's look at the bright side. McCarthy just put the final nail in his coffin and if the Packers keep losing they will be be getting better draft picks. This team would have been dead in the water if it had made the playoffs. Blow it up and start over. We can thank Ted Thompson and his last few lousy drafts for the lack of talent on this team.

Draft picks will help. However, no one can accuse them of tanking under any scenario since you've got to be able to actually beat an NFL team to be accused of tanking. Silver lining - Vikings getting their ass handed to them - still haven't beat a team with a winning record.

Well, actually. . . .

“The 2018 season has not lived up to the expectations and standards of the Green Bay Packers. As a result, I made the difficult decision to relieve Mike McCarthy of his role as head coach, effective immediately,” Murphy said. “Mike has been a terrific head coach and leader of the Packers for 13 seasons, during which time we experienced a great deal of success on and off the field. We want to thank Mike, his wife, Jessica, and the rest of the McCarthy family for all that they have done for the Packers and the Green Bay and Wisconsin communities. We will immediately begin the process of selecting the next head coach of the Green Bay Packers.”

I thought they can’t interview current NFL assistants until after the season. Is that right??

To Mike McCarthy: you gave a lot to the fans of Green Bay. Things didn't end well but thank you for many memories.

We did look crappy out there but if we had Allison and King playing it would have been a different game. You can't depend on rookies, this game was close, the loss of those two made the difference.

Well, I wouldn't say that, but this is what happens when you wait too long to replace Dom Capers, TT and now MM.

This all could have been handled better if this all were done 4-5 years ago.

Now it had to get all SAD for EVERYONE.

Quite sad when you think about it

He should not have been allowed on the field for the 2nd half. I told my brother that Murphy would fire him before the day ended. Enough is enough.

*The hold on Kenny Clark on the 3rd and 23 was egregious and right in front of the official. More of the same.

*Rodgers missed some more deep throws.

*On the final drive, a better throw to Adams allows him to get out of bounds. A better throw to Cobb picks up another 5-10 yards. Both were gimmies.

*Rodgers hasn’t been the same QB since the collarbone. Gulp.

*Cant believe Adams’ endzone and sideline toe taps didn’t make gut reactions. He is a special talent and very maybe the best WR in the game.

*I wonder if the 50/50 split on carries between Jones and Williams was McCarthy’s final straw. Stubborn until the end.

*i hope it’s Bruce Arians.

*The hold on Kenny Clark on the 3rd and 23 was egregious and right in front of the official. All year. More of the same.

*Rodgers missed some more deep throws.

*On the last drive, a better throw to Adams allows him to get out of bounds. A better throw to Cobb picks up 5-10+ yards. Both were gimmies. And either probably changes the outcome of regulation.

*Rodgers hasn’t been the same QB since the collarbone. Gulp.

*Cant believe Adams’ endzone and sideline toe taps didn’t make gut reactions. He is a special talent and very maybe the best WR in the game.

*Kumerow barely sees the field but makes a big play when given the chance.

*The 50/50 split on carries between Jones and Williams makes it hard for me to feel sympathy for McCarthy. It’s as though he’s trolling.

*i hope it’s Bruce Arians.

With the Packers we had a little ace in the whole to draw players to the Packers and that was Aaron Rodgers. Now, that boat has left the port.

Time for a new QB!
