My guess is that 3 of these guys will be starting week 1 of 2017, and that could go up to as many as 5. Hopefully that will be a good thing.

Almost down voted but saw 2017. Whew.

I wouldn't be shocked if two start in 2016, and there could be more. It's not likely but I would definitely not be shocked.
Clark probably should start and Spriggs could (injury on OL or could prove to be the stud he has potential for). ILB has no good incumbents either.

Ryan and Martinez have very similar measurables, both are more athletic than Sam Barrington. I think this is the Packers starting base ILB combo for 2017...and potentially by the end of 2016.

consistently the best packer website by far.

I definitely enjoy this blog, but ACME is better IMO.
This isn't too be rude, but ACME has a higher understanding of the game and thus better articles. Cheesehead is good, but it says something that the best article I've ever read here happened to be a very recent guest contributer.

No fluff, just content, content, content...perfect. Thanks, CHTV!

The Packers sure made this draft all about the big guys--2 each along the O-line, D-line and LBs. Only 1 ball handler and no DBs. I'm good with that. O-line depth was non-existent. DL had some losses. And LBs are the heart of a 3-4 style defense, even if they mostly play 2-4-5.
If you're strong in the trenches, the rest falls into place more easily. Keep Rodgers upright and comfortable and he'll make plays. That door swings the other way too--make the opposing QB uncomfortable and the Pack's DBs will make plays. Both of those dynamics are about more than just QB pressure. Open holes in the run game make for comfortable down and distance for the QB. No run game makes for uncomfortable down and distance.
Nice pieces added to the puzzle. Now it is all about seeing how they fit into the larger picture.

Trevor Davis sounds like a perfect Packer name and returner.

Thompson and his scouting staff should be commended for keeping the Packers competitive year after year while drafting in the bottom third.
Theoretically, he should have the 27th best draft this year based upon their position, but I suspect it's closer to the 15th best.
By the way Al, nice summary.

I'm seeing a trend here. When TT isn't looking under the rocks he gets alot of pac10 guys and big10 big guys.
I felt good about last years crop once pressason started but this is the first time in a while i felt this good about a draft. I actually had alot of excitement before the draft.
Great job done by cheeseheadTV!

Over the last 5 drafts (since most college conferences realigned), almost half of the Packers picks have come from the Big Ten (21%) or the Pac 12 (28%). The Packers have picked as many players from the weakest conferences (Sun Belt, American, etc.), old "D1-AA" and D-II schools (8, 19%) over that span as they have from the SEC and BIG 12 combined (8).

The time it must take to put together a big board. Then you have to hope the player is there when you pick. Best part of the draft was sticking it to Seattle and Chicago with the Spriggs pick. I still wish one of the Packer presenters would have said,"the bears still suck".
gr7070
May 01, 2016 at 09:44 pm
I hate this "bears still stuck" bs; not to mention "America's Team". It reminds me of Texas A&M or the Red Sox focusing on UT and the Yankees.
We're the Packers. We don't need to give credit to the bears or have them on the forefront. We're their top rival and the lion's and Vikings too.
Packers! That alone says everything we need to.
The bears? That's a cool mammal. And only twice a year is it anything else.

Call me crazy, but I'm loving what I see from Dean Lowry. Again, he has little-to-no pass rush moves and hopefully the coaches can teach him a thing or two there, but damn it his run technique is awesome.

OK, I stand corrected. I like this kid. I like this whole draft now.

May 01, 2016 at 11:14 am
Very pleased with this draft. The Pack got bigger and deeper at DL and OL as well as addressing the Inside Linebacker position. Trevor Davis brings much needed speed to the WR position. There will always be critics that sit back in their easy chair swigging on a beer and believe that they know how to do it better. That's life but I trust TT and the Packer personnel staff as they actually do all the hard work.

2 OL -- 2 DL -- 2 LBs-------------- It's called picking for need. -- -- It would have been great if TT had also added 1 OL, 1 DL plus 1 ILB via free agency. ------ Not the "break the cap" type but a more veteran player (Don't ask for names - that's not my job - that's the job of the GM) . ------ Very few rookies have an impact in their first season. -- Season 2016 hasn't been altered to any great degree by this draft. -- Just a little more inexperienced unproven depth. ------------ Hopefully, there will be a surprise out of this group immediately.

"Not the "break the cap" type but a more veteran player (Don't ask for names - that's not my job - that's the job of the GM) "
You could have stopped after "player" and you would've only sounded like a malcontent, not the malcontent deuchebag you came off like...

C'mon, Dobber... You gotta admit that TT is just a lazy ass for refusing to walk down to the corner Vets 'R' Us and pick a savvy DL who is cheaper and better than anyone currently on the roster. There's a whole aisle of them, for crying out loud!
4thand1
May 01, 2016 at 03:55 pm
Its not lazy, its called cap management. When you have some elite players on any team, you have to be cheap in other areas. People brag about Seattle but they are losing keys players and guys holding out for more money. Everyone said when Wilson gets paid cap hell would take over.
BradHTX
May 02, 2016 at 03:29 pm
4th: My point exactly. I was being ironic — people like the OP seem to think that TT should be able to just magically make FA vets appear who are both cheaper and better than the players we already have, and those FAs don't always exist. The OP's comment about not being a GM so he doesn't have to name examples was asinine.

"Don't ask for names-that's not my job - that;s the job of the GM"
WHAT???
All you do is come here and play GM, give me a break. You're critical of everything the Packers do, offer an opinion about everything and then come with some BS like that? LMAO...Too funny

The other NFC north teams draft according to the Packers abilities , the Packers draft according to their own needs . That tells you all about the draft .

This series is quite literally one of the very best I've ever read about the value of the Packers draft.
I signed up just to let the author know how incredible it is. This and the profiles before the draft and crazy good.
You can bet I'll be looking at more content at CTV.
