Green and Bold: R-E-L-A-X about Jordy Nelson

Packers fans have been waiting since September 1, 2015, to see top wideout Jordy Nelson back in action, and after a promising offseason rehab process the first day of training camp was supposed to deliver on those hopes.

However, come Tuesday morning, Nelson did not participate in practice with the rest of the team; head coach Mike McCarthy announced in his pre-practice press conference that Nelson is on the PUP list to start training camp.

Special Rx for managing worrying:

Select a chair in your home. Name it the "worry chair". Do not use it for any other purpose than the following:

1. Set your alarm to go off every day 30 minutes earlier than usual.
2. Upon hearing the alarm, go straight to the worry chair.
3. Sit there for 30 minutes. Worry as hard as you can.
4. When 30 minutes are up, go on about your usual daily activities.
5. During the day, if you feel yourself beginning to worry again, remind yourself that you have already gotten all of your worryng out of the way, and are free to just proceed with the rest of your stuff, unimpeded by worry.
6. Repeat this process for as long as you find it helpful.

LOL... Packers Fans do tend to "Freak Out" when they hear news about a player as important as Jordy Nelson, especially when it's described as a "Hiccup". I mean what the heck IS a Hiccup when describing a injury?

Thanks for explaining the rule about the PUP List. I didn't know or had forgot a player isn't eligible to go back on once he practices.

One player that wouldn't surprise me if he went on the pup list for the regular season is Ty Montgomery.
He was the player I was most concerned to miss the start of the season. There is plenty of time for him to come back, but if he missed a lot of training camp, would they hold him out and put him on the pup list to give him more time to get ready to come back?

I agree with the assessment that Monty will have a hard time coming back from that injury. It may take a year, and he may never be right. There are lots of examples of pro athletes having this injury and never being the same. There are of course several degrees of severity, and I hope his is on the least severe part of the scale.

That just sucks too. The way his injury was described, how his ankle felt "Loose" in December which I guess was when they finally put him on the shelf makes me wonder once more about the Packers Medical Staff.

I've brought this up before after players have taken much longer than originally thought to return, surgery is required, or they just seemed completely off about everything with their first thoughts on the injury.

Maybe this happens on all teams, may be it's a normal thing with ALL medical staffs, I don't know because unless the Players play for the Packers or are playing the Packers that week, or even those in the Division I don't really pay attention. I'm also not a Doctor, I don't pretend to know something by reading up on what a specific injury is and then come on and type what I've read to sound like I know what I'm talking about. Jennings and Hayward injuries in 2012, both of these were examples where it seemed the Packers were way off on the original diagnosis. I just hope the kid comes back and comes back soon. Wilde commented on his show on ESPN Wisconsin (or maybe it was Homers show) that the Packers offense seemed to be humming along, at least much better than it did the final 10 weeks until he was injured. The versatility he brings to the Offense, the things he's able to do, is important and would help perhaps McCarthy not being so predictable.

I have brought it up in the past as well. It seems they have had missed diagnosed injuries in the past. I don't know how much this happens but it does seem to happen more often then I would like in Green Bay.

I am hoping that they are being cautious with Montgomery. But it wouldn't surprise me if he were to start the season on the pup list.

Patellar Tendonitis? Please, go ahead and freak out because the recovery time is likely to be 3 months. You're not going to see Jordy on the field until November.

BTW? Whoever has guiding his rehab messed this up. They should have accounted for the possibility of PT. Or, perhaps Nelson didn't follow instructions and rushed his rehab.

Who said patellar tendonitis? I haven't read that anywhere. Lots of tendons around the knee joint...and we don't know how long he's been dealing with it. If it is, he might already be in month 3.

Settle down, folks.

there are exactly 2 tendons around the knee. Quadriceps tendon and patellar tendon. The patellar tendon really is a ligament... When doctors talk about knee tendinitis, then it almost always is the patellar tendon, as that one is much more prone to inflammation due to overexertion based on just where it is located. Hardly anyone ever has issue with the quadriceps tendon.

So yes, based on what we can assume, it is a patellar tendinitis...;

Maybe it's "patellar tenderloins" instead. I hear they are delicious.

I'm a physician and PT does NOT require 3 months to recover from. Where do you get this information? It depends on the severity and a variety of other factors. I have it and play basketball a few times a week and I'm 48 years old! Sure it aches a bit after games but once you get playing, it doesn't limit me from doing anything on the court. I realize I'm not an NFL athlete but Nelson is much younger and more conditioned than I am now days. They need to cool the tendon down with ice & ultrasound and rest the tendon a bit. That's wise to do now instead of later. If this is what he has, he'll be fine.

I'm not to concerned right now. I assumed Nelson wouldn't be full go when training camp started, anyways.
I'm honestly more concerned with Ty Montgomery then Nelson.

One thing I heard yesterday is that Nelson's injury to his other knee is due to overcompensation for his injured knee. And he has developed Tendinitis in his good knee... Sounded like it would be a couple of weeks before he would be ready to go.

This is a perfect time for the young WR's to get more time in with Rodgers. Trevor Davis had a big day yesterday from reports I saw. Adams, Janis and Abbrederis all are getting more reps.

Two things here: He said himself he "tweaked" his knee. That wouldn't be the case with tendonitis. But ok, maybe that was just misinformation. But secondly, as a former competitive runner, I can tell you that patellar tendonitis has a full recovery time of 3 - 4 months. Now with the professional treatment options available to pro NFL players this time may be shorter, but anyone who thinks that Jordy will be 100% for game 1 has to be really optimistic...

Maybe if we all freak out hard enough, all the injuries will just go away.
You may need MORE than 30 min daily in the worry chair ;)

With the Packers's really cautious approach to injuries, how much did we all really expect him to practice before the end of August, anyway? Not much.

If it's ten days before Jax and he still hasn't seen the field, then, I'll start to get really worried.

Much more concerned about the OL. I would argue that it was as much to blame for the Packers poor offensive performance as the WRs last season. They need to be healthy and playing cohesively when Jax and Minneswampy roll around.

"overcompensating during rehab."

Anyone who has had a knee surgery should get this. I personally had hip and ankle pain in the other leg for about a year after my surgery. It takes time for your body to let go of the "Protection Mode" you go into with an injury.

Agree about the overcompensation. I've had eight knee surgeries (the 5th they had to remove my patella completely) and overcompensating is natural, even with P/T . I'm not too concerned (yet) if Jordy is not worried!

".....though of course only time will reveal more about how serious this tendonitis is."

Of course no one should be freaking out but the odds of it NOT being worse than first mentioned doesn't have a good track record in Packer land.
I said a couple of weeks ago that Nelson wouldn't see any preseason time before game 4, normally game 3, but this may put that in jeopardy if the next report comes back with the....hiccup. : )

"...but the odds of it NOT being worse than first mentioned doesn't have a good track record in Packer land."

And that's the only problem I have with this. I was fine with him being on Training Camp PUP because I was led to believe he was close to return and was placed on Training Camp PUP as a precautionary measure. Do we know when this happened?

Right? Lol. So forgive me if I freak out when our best Offensive weapon not named Rodgers, who is still recovering from a torn ACL, injures his other knee (no matter how much he or the coaches down plays the significance of it).

BREAKING NEWS: Jordy Nelson sustains minor owie when sky falls on knee.

Authorities also report that numerous nearby chickens were traumatized by the incident, but otherwise unhurt.

We will update this story as events unfold.

Let me tell you the injury that bums me out more right now (confident Jordy will be fine) is Ty Montgomery.

Of ALL the guys we debate about...Janis Janis and Janis, I am feeling Ty the most.

I really feel the guy is sharp and a total pro and was starting to make plays.

I saw his interview first day of camp. He was trying to be positive but damn it was heartbreaking because you know he knows he has a way to go.

I have a bad feeling he fried that ankle for good.

Going back to my worry chair now!

I'm right there with you with Ty. For him to have gone from week to week to the "Set Backs" he had when trying to come back, to the ankle being described as feeling loose or mushy before being put on IR is really concerning. Why does this always seem to happen to the Packers and their "Medical Staff".

He was outstanding the the Seattle game (Even with the penalty) and that was just week 2 of his rookie season. He was just starting to settle in and BOOM, he's been out since week 6 of 2015 with no idea when he'll come back, or at least that's how it sounds. Hoping Montgomery is on the PUP List for nothing other than he can only be put there once and there's no reason to rush.

Well McCarthy said Montgomery would practice during training camp, so we're going to find out on the field if he can play or not. Like most Packer fans I'm not counting on him, but I sure as hell am counting on Nelson.

It is nice, Michelle that you noticed how Randall Cobb and Jared Abbrederis, along with Jordy Nelson do not need to get all the reps they can, as they already knows system and have Aaron's trust in them!
