Grant Goes All In To Throw Out Pitch

Ryan Grant hired a private plane to make sure he was at Miller Park yesterday.

I loved this story about Ryan Grant missing his flight and going to extreme measures to get to Miller Park yesterday, only because it is so quintessentially New York at the beginning of it.

From Bob Wolfley:

Grant dropped in for a visit with Brian Anderson and Bill Schroeder during the fourth inning of the Fox Sports Wisconsin telecast of the Brewers-Braves telecast.

Grant told viewers he took extraordinary measures to travel from New York to Milwaukee in order to be at Miller Park.

“My car service that was supposed to pick me up and take me to the airport from New York," Grant said. "As I stuck my hand to open the car door, he locked the door and drove off. It sounds crazy, but that’s exactly what happened. He drove away slowly so I thought he was going to make a U-turn. He might have been a Giants fan, I don’t know. He wasn’t a Packers fan. He just kept going. I looked at my brother and my friend and said, ‘Did we just get pranked? Is this a joke?’ "

Grant said he didn’t have time to get another ride from a service, so he drove to the airport himself, but was caught in traffic and missed his flight. He could not be booked on another flight and make the game on time.

So Grant drove to another airport and hired a private jet.

“I told them I was going to be here, so I had to make sure I was here,” Grant said.

Schroeder asked Grant how much it cost him to hire the private jet.

“Lot of money,” Grant said. “Lot of, lot of, money. My friend and my brother joined me. I told them to enjoy the flight and stay awake.”

You can argue whether or not hiring a private jet during a lockout is a wise signal to be sending, but you can't argue with Grant's dedication. Just. Awesome.

I was just lamenting about having to spring the cash for a private jet. I hate it when that happens.

I know I'll get beat up but,I'm not so quick to buy into the dedication angle as I'll lean more toward the buying(future) support one.
He did only hurt his ankle, right?

Yes, Grant seems to be really putting on the PR front this offseason. But, you know, that's OK. It's better than talking your way out of a town. No one knows what TT is thinking at RB, but Grant is, as you put it, "going all in". If he stays in GB, it will have been worth it; if not, he gave it his best shot. I think that that's Lombardi-ish.

I always hate it when my 'car service' fails to deliver & I have to charter a 'private jet' to attend a baseball game ..... I mean, what next ?? .....

But it's 'awesome' that I have lifetime healthcare coverage ...... Wait a second ..... I don't ....... Never-mind.

You do realize that 'car service' is another way of saying 'cab', right?

I get your point here, but there are way more NFL players who can NOT afford to do this than can.

I'm not sure I'd hire a rickshaw to take me to see the Brewers play, let alone a private jet.

There are alot of players who say they will attend a charity or event and then do not show up. There are some who say they will show up and then later cancel. (See: Vick, Mike.)
Dunno, looks like Grant is a man of his word. If he says he will attend your event, you can pretty much count on him being there.
Dunno what all this event entailed, if it was just throwing out a pitch, but alot of events like this include signing autographs for kids, meeting disabled kids or talking to cub scouts or something. So it's not cool to just not show up.

Word. I think all this tells us is he's in a different class than Michael Vick and Dez Bryant.

Someone at JSOnline posted a comment with a link to an article about Grant's past failure to pay his car service/limo bills. Maybe the driver recognized him and that's why he drove away.

Correction: Grant was taken to court for failing to pay for travel on a private jet.
