Good Read

Thank goodness for C.D. Angeli over at Tundra Vision. Just an excellent piece today from an admitted Thompson critic who is not afraid to give Thompson his due when it is warranted. I appreciated this in particular:

Now, there are probably many things folks would like to see listed, but I am going to list only those that I feel are pure. I don't want to commit the journalistic sin of offering positives with qualifiers. For example, while I could say Thompson made a great move in allowing Marco Rivera to move on, I would then counter it by saying "BUT I was disappointed he didn't have a better plan in place to replace him."

First of all, if it is indeed a sin, I am on my way to hell on the express train. As someone who attempts to write about the Packers every day, I can't tell you how difficult the above is. I think it also points out how tough Thompson's job is and C.D. does a great job pointing out some things that Thompson probably doesn't get enough credit for.

Very good article. I think Ted needs to draft some defensive playmakers that can play well right away. Do that and all will be well. Draft guys for production 3 years down the line and you can forget it, he will not be around to see them play well. No more Hunters, Montgomerys, or Bishops or Rouses, get some guys that can step on the field and contribute right away.

I also felt it was a very good article. The one other good characteristic of Thompson that wasn't mentioned is his sense of judgement. He's gotten rid of or let go a fair number of players at the right time: Rivera and Green. A tendency of Coaches and GMs is to let themgo a year or two too late.
