Friday's Injury Report: Pickett Ruled Out For Sunday

After suffering his second concussion of the 2011 season, the Packers are holding the defensive lineman out of Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Here is Friday's Packers Injury Report:

Desmond Bishop, LB  Out

Chad Clifton, T  Out

Greg Jennings, WR Out

Ryan Pickett, DE Out

Brandon Saine, RB  Questionable

Josh Sitton, G Questionable

James Starks, RB Questionable

Vic So’oto, LB Probable

A.J. Hawk, LB Probable

Pickett and Saine suffered concussions against the Raiders. This is Pickett's second concussion this year, which is probably informing the Packers decision to hold him out this week.
Mike McCarthy told reporters this afternoon that James Starks was limited in what he did at practice today, which was mostly individual work, and that they would give him up until the game on Sunday to determine if he can go. With Saine's availability in doubt, this could cause a potential problem at the running back position, although the team would probably just use John Kuhn more in his running back role and use Tom Crabtree and Ryan Taylor more at fullback for certain formations.
On a more positive note, McCarthy said he though Josh Sitton "looked fine" and that they would know more tomorrow. If Sitton is unable to go, Evan Dietrich-Smith would get his third start in a row at right guard.
One final injury note, McCarthy indicated that tight end Andrew Quarless had not yet had surgery on his knee, which he injured in the game nearly three weeks ago against the Giants. McCarthy said he thought Quarless, who the team has placed on injured reserve, would have the surgery sometime in the next week. The team has still not said exactly what the injury is, but Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has intimated that Quarless' availability for 2012 may be in question.

Will someone tell these idiots to wear the concussion resistant helmets that a rod wears. Is it about looking cool or something? I don't get it.

Talk about least likely.

I can't remember where I read Q tore both his ACL and MCL. The prognosis is an 8-10 month rehab. The article mentioned the PUP list as a probability.

That's too bad if Quarless is lost for next season. I was super weary of the kid coming in, but he'd been winning me over with his play. Not the kind of play the casual fan would notice, but being the freak/idiot I am, watching games time and again, he was really turning into a fine 'overall' player. He was beginning to stand out a play here, or a play there... every game. You could tell the kid was putting the time in and taking his job seriously. Hope he heals well, and soon.
