Film Review: The 2019 Packers' Draft Class
Andy Herman does a deep dive into the entire 2019 NFL Draft class in today's film review.
By AndyHerman
For this years' draft film review I decided to go in a little bit of a different direction. I made a series of draft videos for each prospect in the class. Without further ado, here are the breakdowns. Enjoy!
Rashan Gary
So here's my tape study on Gary. Lots to like, lots to love in fact. You'll see some plays where he doesn't have a plan to get to the quarterback but watch his explosiveness out of his stance & his physicality & hand usage -- elite, elite traits. Finding consistency will be key. pic.twitter.com/CwslJiB8nP

Who does @RashanAGary remind me of?! A little bit of @TheRealZSmith, a little bit of @camjordan94, and a LOT of @EversonGriffen. Check it out! pic.twitter.com/rOxcs0UmOv

Darnell Savage
Darnell Savage Film Breakdown Part 1:
Savage plays like an absolute missile with unique movement skills. Packer fans will fall in love with how aggressive (and smart) he plays. He's a great scheme fit & pairs very well with Adrian Amos. Savage should be a day 1 starter for GB! pic.twitter.com/qSVXCiNjuu

Elgton Jenkins
In the 2nd round the Green Bay Packers selected Elgton Jenkins - Offensive Lineman - Mississippi State. Here's my breakdown and what I saw on film from the Packers' highest drafted interior offensive lineman since Daryn Colledge. pic.twitter.com/Mt2MU9iQ7t

Jace Sternberger
Part 1:
Here's the first part of my film review on rookie tight end Jace Sternberger. Sternberger has the ability to make an immediate impact as a receiving TE & finally give GB a weapon at the position who has the ability to hurt defenses with his run after the catch ability. pic.twitter.com/OA5WGNQNHv
— Andy Herman (@SconnieSports) May 15, 2019
Part 2:
Sternberger needs to improve as a blocker but he's not a completely lost cause - you see plays on tape where he's able to seal his man & make an impact - but he's inconsistent. It's unwise to expect too much out of rookie TEs but I think Jace's got a shot to help day 1! pic.twitter.com/S7abq0TUJt

Kingsley Keke
With the 150th pick the Packers selected Kingsley Keke - Defensive Lineman - Texas A&M. Here's what I saw on film, including some highlights, and some things that Keke will need to work on to be successful in the NFL. pic.twitter.com/XfJfW9LiqE

Ka'Dar Hollman
I told you the first player I wanted to take a look at was @Versatiledarr (Ka'Dar Hollman). Here's my breakdown of Hollman and what he may be able to bring to the team in 2019 and going forward. He's a fun player to watch! pic.twitter.com/ASsIhR8HCo
— Andy Herman (@SconnieSports) May 2, 2019
Dexter Williams
In the sixth round the Packers' got themselves a really intriguing running back who fits beyond perfectly as a runner in Matt LaFleur's system. He's going to have to develop the rest of his game (receiving/blocking/special teams) but he is a great find at pick 194 in the draft! pic.twitter.com/rxldMsAfDS
— Andy Herman (@SconnieSports) May 12, 2019
Ty Summers
Ty Summers is another intriguing, late round draft choice, who unsurprisingly put up fantastic testing numbers at the combine. There are games where you see him fly around the field while serving as the "QB" of the defense. He's my topic of discussion for today's film study: pic.twitter.com/LiqVVOrvAC

LOL. Implicit comparisons of anyone to Reggie White aren't allowed on packer blogs!

As we should miss all of our all time greats. Those players are once in a lifetime mostly. Favre and Rodgers is a truly rare exception. I still miss watching Collins and of course Woodson in more recent times. Those players could make something out of nothing. Just maybe I will be saying that about Clark in a decade or so.

Impresssed by what I see, but Darnell Savage really jumps off the page. ROY candidate. I’m calling a pick-6 off Trubisky in game one.

Great piece. Thank you very much.
The more I see of him, the more I think the Packers are right about Sternberger’s combine sprint time not reflecting his tape.

When the Packers had Jace in for a visit, he ran a 4.66 40. Rather better than the 4.75 he ran at the combine.
Also, because the guy is so smooth in and out of his cuts, he plays faster than he times. Lots of upside here.
While watching Andy's tape, I expected to see Savage move fast (and he did), but Gary, that was FAST.

Well done Andy! -- Fun to view. -- Sternberger may get more snaps than the other TEs put together. -- Take that RC....

He will be in the passing game and the kid from Duke may replace Tonyan
in the scheme. He was a reliable guy for Jones and a blocker.

Best draft in the history of drafts. ORTY, DRTY, 5 rookies will make all pro.

Watch Gary get himself a sack hat trick against Trubisky in game 1. The legend begins...
Seriously though, I admit I didn't like Gary much before the draft but hes growing on me. If you listen to his coaches talk about his role and responsibilities in their defense it paints a better picture of him and his production levels.
In real time I selected Christian Wilkins, who went 1 pick later to the Phins. Thought it would have been him or Sweat. Them getting Keke in round 5 kinda softens the blow a bit for missing out on Wilkins.
Love Savage the prospect, didn't love the cost to go up and get him but I'm almost certain Seattle would have picked him had they stayed put, maybe Baltimore at 23 or Oakland might have taken him over Abram who knows, we got him.
Like Elgton Jenkins, wanted Jace and feel good about Dexter in the 6th.

I think all our draft picks turn out to be all pro.
Or they all turn out to be money grabbing flops.
Or they report to camp and earn spots on the roster.
I will wait and see.
