He’s an undersized OLB coming off of a knee injury. I see no reason to do so. There are certainly other OLB players available after cut downs if the Packers feel the need IMO.

I pray are starters don't go down. My question now; is Gute / Sherman? Had he not signed the Smiths,Amos,Turner. The 53 would be pathetic! This team has all the markings of Sherman's teams, before TT. So do you really believe we won't need a QB, 2 Wrs, 1 RT, 2 Tes, 2 ILB, 1 De, And a KICKER? (in 2020.) Let alone trying to sign Clark? This is shocking. The UDFAs will not be here in 2 years. I believe Sherman would be proud of Gute. Wolf wouldn't!

That is insulting. Sherman was not onboard for the Rodgers pick in '05 to begin with. Think where this team would be now.

Stockholder, “My question now; is Gute / Sherman? Had he not signed the Smiths,Amos,Turner. I pray are starters don't go down. My question now; is Gute / Sherman? In my opinion, this post is so foolish. What if he hadn’t made the incredibly bold move of signing 4 UFAs? OK, what if Wolf hadn’t traded for Favre? See how foolish that sounds? It’s not as if either was an accident. So you start by attempting to diminish Gutekunst’s boldest moves. Contrast Gutekunst moves in this one off season to all of Thompson’s over his tenure as GM.

Does this team have weaknesses? Yes, like every other team. Do I believe they need a QB? No, they have (IMO) the best in the league. They kept the better of the two backups and if Rodgers is out for more than a couple games they're screwed anyway. 2 WRs? Nope, they’re fine at WR. 1 RT? For the first time in a while I’m confident they can succeed without Bulaga (Turner to RT, Jenkins to RG). 2 ILB? Yep, they’re extremely thin at ILB. 1 DE? If it were me, I’d have kept Daniels, but if Pettine knows what he’s doing I think he has all the ammo he needs to put a good D on the field. A K in 2020? It’s 2019, let’s see how Mason does this year and if they need a K, they can address that next off season.

Gutekunst in his short stint as GM has been more Wolf-like than Thompson ever was.

I praised Gute for his 4 FA's. But you cut out: I pray they don't go down. Why? Because he now has to use UDFAs for back ups. Sherman traded picks to fill his holes. Gute is trading picks to get players to fill his holes. (like Sherman). Diminishing him is an assumption on your part. This team should have No weaknesses after his MOVES! He knew ILB was a major need before the draft. What makes Burks so good? Everyone knows if A-Rod goes down, the season has always been over. Yet he never addressed the QB and the OL correctly.( Until MM left ) TT brought in Rodgers and others at QB! (Regardless what Favre thought) . Don't knock TT for that. Gute has made the same mistake as TT. {Standing Pat on starters, and not worrying about the back-ups.} You may think were better off with guys from the kitty Box. I don't ! What happened when Collins, Woodson, Fineley, etc. left?. Domination and Dynasties don't come from UDFAs.

Well, only one new undrafted free agent made the team, and he looked pretty good. Your being a little over (un)excited right now. Every roster is filled out with late or undrafted players. 7 rounds in a draft over 7 years is only 49 players. So realistically, every team should have around 5 undrafted guys on it. I don't know why your so worked up. This is normal...

Sherman was a bad GM, which shouldn't have been a surprise since he had no background in player evaluation. All GMs trade picks & all draft for need. To use that criteria to say Gutekunst = Sherman as GM is shallow analysis. It's the players each acquired that matters & while its early in Gutekunst's tenure, I think it's obvious he's doing a better job. And of course Sherman never did anything close to what Gutekunst did this offseason.
Did you criticize Gutekunst for not fixing the OL in his first year as GM when he had to extend Rodgers before last season? Only someone whose standard is this team should have no weaknesses, would have such unrealistic expectations.
One more thing: How many UDFAs comprise the average NFL roster & how does the Packers current 53 compare? And are UDFAs bad as a group or would an analysis of each UDFA be more meaningful?

Stockholder you are making the assumption all UDFAs give you the same production. They dont, just like some 3rd round picks hit and some don't. Raven Greene is a find, should have been drafted. Sam Shields as well and Corey Clement and Tamon Williams. Bottom line, they did not trade or draft secondary backups because they like what they have. J'Mon Moore was a fourth round pick and it's time to move on, ALL teams have those.

I like the great majority of what Gute has done up to yesterday.

Today in my mind has not been his finest. Allowing for the fact that the final roster is far from it, I still think he ended up with an imbalanced roster with serious weaknesses in certain areas.

I think LaFleur helped create the problem. A waste of time competition between Taylor and Jenkins results in them having to keep Patrick because Jenkins never spent time at Center with the ones.

Similarly, the refusal to look past Carson, a man cut immediately after by far his best showing, led to Ford not getting a shot and giving a free ride in to the talented D Williams who is a recipe for getting his QB crushed so bad is he at picking up protections.

That said, we go into a season with two competent running backs, one fullback with no back up, 4 TEs and one QB who is raw and has yet to perfect a lot of the toolbox.

On defense we have linemen galore and perhaps one full time OLB, Fackrell, who I hope is not a starter. At ILB we have three healthy ILBs, one of whom had perhaps one of the three least impressive camps on D (so two really) supported by Greene.

Greene is an ILB 2 possibility, the only hybrid/ ILB 3 and the 3rd traditional safety. There is no backup to Greene at the Hybrid. There is fortunately a backup primarily deep safety and a slew of CBs.

While it is true that perhaps no one on the roster didn’t earn a place on O or D except Crawford (Madison I think was held back by LaFleur trying to make him a center to free Jenkins for most of camp), it is Gute’s job to build a balanced Roster. He has not at this point.

Why Markus Jones was cut I do not know. Why Matthews was cut or Sheldon provide similar puzzles. Jones earned a spot on my view. Matthews and Sheldon provided cover where we mist need it and played well enough to at least start the season till others came back.

As things stand, perhaps Gute will solve this by bringing in significantly more external talent than TT typically did. If not, this roster is a conglomeration if deserving individuals who, taken as a whole nevertheless represent a misshapen mass.

I don't see what your seeing at all. I don't see any real issues with the roster. Nor do I think there were any surprises outside of waiving Bolton injured, but what else could they really do with that? No surprises at QB, RB, FB, TE, WR. Either line. Nothing. I would like to see another backer. That's about it.

Coldworld, much is going to change over these next few hours. I agree two they kept, IMO Redmond and Crawford were kept needlessly over two others we know of. Add, Burks is my least fav of any, but may prove a valuable add back onto roster late season after IR, which I suspect will happen. Was Crawford injured during last game? Maybe same for him, with a FA/trade addition added to ILB.

We will need a backup qb unless the Packers go with signing someone like Brian Hoyer. We don't have to force the issue, though. Only get one if a good QB falls.

We really don't need 2 wrs. We just kept 6+1 on it. Standard is 6.

Rt shouldn't be a huge issue. I think that's where the Packers want Turner to play after Bulaga walks.

We probably will need to add a de but I like Looney who will probably be on our ps. TEs will be worrisome. Maybe sign one in FA. ILB is fine. Take a guy late to develop.

Yup. Most teams have wrs they want to sneak on the ps at this point. A team would have to be really hard up to take lazard and put him on their 53. If they do, that's fine, but I don't it. He's solid with nice size but needs time.

Really happy we kept Williams. That kid is great later in the game....has the ability to take a game over. Great accompanying piece to our running back group.
